There is one individual who could end the tariff madness today if he only had the cajones to stand up and do the right thing.
This individual, however, would never qualify as an entry to JFK’s 1956 best-seller Profiles in Courage because he has signaled to the world that he does not possess an ounce of genuine courage – despite being a U.S. Marine veteran.
His name is Mike Johnson. He is the Speaker of the House and sorry to say, is from Louisiana.
All he has to do is give a thumbs-up to a measure that reasserts Congress’s AUTHORITY OVER TARIFFS.
Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution says, “The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises…[and] to regulate commerce with foreign nations.”
Some 50 years ago, however, Congress effectively delegated all responsibilities on tariffs to the executive branch.
Going all the way back to 1934, Congress passed the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act which gave President Franklin Roosevelt the authority to vary tariffs by 50 percent and to negotiate trade agreements without having to obtain additional approval from Congress. The president has generally controlled tariff policies since that time.
But Congress can, at any time it chooses, RESCIND THAT AUTHORITY to the President but to do so, Republicans – including especially House Speaker Johnson – would have to put loyalty to the country and the economy above loyalty to Donald Trump.
That would require a show of courage that Republicans as a group simply do not possess.
That may also be why Johnson instructed his fellow Republicans to refrain from holding any town hall meetings back home. After all, some smart-ass constitutional scholar might ask an embarrassing question.
The economic turmoil the U.S. and the world markets are experiencing right now doesn’t have to be. Your 401(K) doesn’t have to take the hit it’s taking right now.
You don’t have to pay an additional $6,000 or so if you want to purchase a new vehicle.
You don’t have to shell an sudden additional $7500 to the cost of a family for basic necessities over the next year.
You don’t have to pay more for imported lumber, agricultural products, coffee, steel or electronic products.
All it takes is a little show of courage to make a bully back down from his incessant intimidation.
But don’t expect it to happen. Cowards just won’t fight back.

Mike Johnson is a weak and corrupt man.
This post got me thinking about the differences between the extinct conservative Republican party and the modern MAGA “Republican” party. We now know the extinct conservative Republican party was a few true believers and millions upon millions of fascists hiding out behind the name. The fascists still use the name because they think they’re still hiding out, but there is almost nothing in common between the extinct conservative Republican party and the modern MAGA “Republican” party. A complete list would be exhausting to compile or read. So here are just ten differences between the extinct conservative Republican and the modern MAGA “Republican,” and one thing they still have in common.
1) The extinct conservative Republican believed in free trade. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes in tariffs.
2) The extinct conservative Republican believed in states rights, a small-in-scope federal government focused on national defense, and fiscal responsibility. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes in the Deep State, that tax cuts for the wealthy and businesses trickle down to the benefit of working Americans, and in granting vast federal authority to an un-elected immigrant to slash and burn in the name of fraud and waste he can’t bother to accurately document.
3) The extinct conservative Republican believed in limited executive power. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes in voting for Trump they granted him whatever power he wishes to claim.
4) The extinct conservative Republican believed in an independent DOJ and the rule of law. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes the DOJ is a tool to force its agenda down your throat and the law should conform to Trump’s desires.
5) The extinct conservative Republican believed in compassion and family values. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes in scapegoating everyone who isn’t MAGA and manly men who “grab them by the p*ssy.”
6) The extinct conservative Republican believed in opposing Russia. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes in appeasing Russia.
7) The extinct conservative Republican believed in educating young Americans by exposing them to a larger world beyond their own experiences. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes in indoctrinating young Americans with the approved facts, and teaching them a trade.
8) The extinct conservative Republican believed in medicine and science. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes in ivermectin and social media.
9) The extinct conservative Republican believed in supporting police. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes in supporting the police who are policing a Black Lives Matter march and assaulting the police who are policing their insurrectionist riot.
10) The extinct conservative Republican believed Walter Cronkite when he said the news was whatever the news was, knowing that sometimes the news was good for you and sometimes it was bad for you. The modern MAGA “Republican” believes all the news is fake news except the “news” that affirms their ignorant prejudices.
And one thing they still have in common:
The extinct conservative Republican turned Iran into a regional power by gaslighting Americans about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The modern MAGA “Republican” turned China into the world’s leading trading partner by gaslighting Americans about who pays tariffs.
I Think Mike Johnson had links with the occult
I Think The Republican Party is Party Of Pedophile
I Think Mike Johnson Is a traitor to United States
