McCarthyism is alive and well with five members of Louisiana’s congressional delegation.
That’s how many voted in favor of the objection to certification of Joe Biden’s election win in Arizona during the turbulent joint session yesterday and into the wee hours of this morning.
Sen. John “Foghorn Leghorn” Kennedy and Reps. Clay Higgins, Steve Scalise, Garret Graves and Mike Johnson voted yea on the objection.
Of the four House members, Graves’ vote was especially disappointing. We expected no better from the other three milquetoasts masquerading as honorable men but we expected more of Graves. He seemed to have a grasp on reality – or at least he seemed to before his vote to challenge Biden’s win that has already undergone recounts and unsuccessful court challenges.
Only Sen. Bill Cassidy and Rep. Cedric Richmond voted no.
Four people are dead as a result of that shameful act of sedition yesterday and the words and actions of Donald Trump and his supporters in Congress – like Kennedy, Scalise, Higgins, and Johnson – must share the blame for what happened.
Higgins, a-la old Joe McCarthy himself, claimed to possess “thousands of pages” of evidence of voter fraud on CNN’s JIM SCUITTO show but was unable to produce a single example when challenged.
His claim to be a trained investigator drew a quick response from his former employer, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, for whom he once worked as a… public information officer.
“While employed at the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department,” Guidroz wrote, “Higgins NEVER conducted any criminal investigation! He continues to boast about his experience as a seasoned ‘STREET COP’ as he calls himself………He was a used car salesman prior to (employment by the Opelousas Police Department). PLEASE don’t get me started with all his shenanigans.” (It should be mentioned that Higgins resigned from the OPD rather than serve a 160-hour suspension for an altercation with a citizen.)
Yesterday’s assault on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters should have repulsed even those with the strongest loyalty to Trump. It did with just-defeated Sen. Kelly Loeffler of Alabama, James Lankford of Oklahoma and Steve Daines of Montana. Even Lindsey Graham said in the Senate chambers after order was restored that “enough is enough.”
But not so for Kennedy, Rick Scott of Florida, Wyoming’s Cynthia Lummis, Mississippi’s Cindy Hyde-Smith, Roger Marshall of Kansas and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama.
I don’t know much about Lummis or Marshall, but Kennedy, Scott, Hyde-Smith and Tuberville are four of a kind. TUBERVILLE and HYDE-SMITH have a combined IQ of 7. SCOTT, the former governor of Florida, is cut from the same mold as Bobby Jindal and Kennedy…Well, we know he just floats with the political breeze, with no moral compass or real political convictions other than self-survival.
Apparently, that’s sufficient for Louisiana’s voters.
Never again.
All very surreal. Storming of the capital. Visualizing Putin smiling. Many of us ashamed to have those five representing Louisiana.
Listening to Sen. Pat Toomey (R) from Pennsylvania on the Senate floor last night saying “I voted for President Trump and endorsed him for re-election. But, on Wednesday, I intend to vigorously defend our form of government by opposing this effort to disenfranchise millions of voters in my state and others.”
But in the same breath he says “We witnessed today the damage that can result when men in power and responsibility refuse to acknowledge the truth. We saw bloodshed because a demagogue chose to spread falsehoods and sow distrust of his own fellow Americans. Let’s not abet such deception.” What???
And it’s not over yet.
If anyone has the stomach and is curious about why this could happen, just tune in to FOX & Friends. I watched for about 10 minutes and witnessed some guy that I never heard of but whom they thought was the “Knower of All Things Trump” explain very passionately how these insurrectionists were simply “frustrated victims of a Liberal Deep State that has consistently stolen their freedoms (didn’t name what freedoms) and they were simple fed up with Washington governing against them” One older host weakly attempted to point out that theirs and Trump’s grievances had been aired thru multiply investigations and courts and found without merit and there was NO response…I changed channels at that point….nuff said! I do not know what can be done about ALL of these media outlets that are pumping lies and will continue to do so long after Trump leaves….any ideas?
Ms Edith, I logged into FB yesterday for the first time in a long time. One of posts I noticed was from a gun dealer in a town just east of where Tom and I live, which was labelled “stock update”. It was a video from the owner with the usual trump rants, and accused yesterdays mob of actually being ANTIFA and BLM because they were wearing black. He claimed that trumps supporters don’t wear black, and seemed to be suggesting that “good patriots” would need to take some sort of action…. his words, not mine. I took a few moments to look at what pages and people that his business and personal profile appear to follow and it became clear where he was getting this information. Fox news is the least of the sources behind the bizarre claims from the people behind this historical crime. It will be hard to bring people together when trumps supporters exist on a highly concentrated diet of those lies.
Thank God Cassidy finally showed some sense, although the Republican delegation from Louisiana will try their best to punish him. Graves is a huge disappointment. I am sure they threatened him with loss of committee assignments, but that shouldn’t be enough to sell your soul. I will do anything I can in 2022 to push out the rest of this sorry crew. One of the saddest things to see is a man who has lost his mind, heart, and soul like Kennedy has.
If you honestly believe Biden got 80M votes then you’re the dumbest “reporter” on the planet.
Oh, hell, Scooter, you must be one of those who claim there’re only 133 million registered voters in the U.S. Where you been? Rudy could’ve used you in those 50 court cases he lost. All you had to say is there’s no way Biden could’ve received 80 million votes and bam! The election would have been declared null and void. Your saying that obviously is all a judge – or any sensible person – would need to hear.

By the way, he didn’t received 80 million votes – he received 81 million.
But I digress. We owe you a debt of gratitude for opening our eyes to the obvious truth – Trump won in a landslide, Elvis is still alive, the moon landing was faked and O.J. Simpson was on the grassy knoll in Dallas in 1963. Damn, you’re a godsend! A ray of sunshine! A beacon of truth!
Boy, do I feel like the dumbest “reporter” on the planet!
Hey hey!! Look who’s back! I guess your Russian handler decided vacation was over!?!?!?
I am in a very red neighborhood, but I can attest there were almost exactly if not exactly as many Biden Harris signs up as T***p ones this time. Delusional goofball.
In the words of Kenan Thompson on SNL, “ain’t nothing gonna happen.”
