“Judge Barrett has been called so far a racist, a colonialist, a religious bigot.”
—U.S. Sen. John Neely Kennedy (R-LA), at Monday’s confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett.
“Who said that?”
—A reporter, in response to Kennedy’s claim. [No one had.]
“I’m not going to argue with you guys. Some of my colleagues suggest because she’s a Christian, she’s unfit to serve in public service.”
—Kennedy.
“Seriously, can you name one of your colleagues who has attacked Judge Barrett?”
—Reporters, pressing Kennedy to name names.
“I don’t want to go there.”
—Kennedy, finally admitting he was referring to three-year-old remarks. [Louisiana should be so proud; we have Clay Higgins in the House and this buffoon in the Senate.
“I mean, that would be outrageous if they do that. In fact, that might actually come back to backfire on them. I hope they don’t do that, ’cause that would be kind of playing a game that we don’t want to play. So, I hope they reconsider that, if, in fact, they are indeed considering that.”
—Dr. Anthony Fauci, critical of Trump again using his quote or image in a Trump ad.
“They are indeed Dr. Fauci’s own words.”
—Trump, defending the use of a quote by Dr. Fauci taken out of context to make it appear he was endorsing Trump’s coronavirus response. [Yes, they were his words, Numb Nuts, but they were not said in praise of you. A one-cell amoeba would know the difference.]
“The House passed a bill in May and this Senate went on vacation. If you want to call yourself a leader … you got to get things done and those of us who served in the Marines, we don’t just point fingers at the other side. We get the job done.”
—Challenger Amy McGrath, during debate with incumbent Mitch McConnell – as McConnell laughed.
“There’s people I associate with and talk to and may even socialize with, but they don’t know how I feel about social issues. I don’t talk about it, because it’s not welcome. “Personally, I’m scared. They’re flying Confederate flags, calling you ugly things. They’re very comfortable with that now; either way it’s not going to go well.”
—Bonnie Dobson, a black mother of three in North Carolina. […and that’s just the way Trump and Lindsey Graham planned it.]
“To those who knew him, no words were necessary. To those who didn’t know him, no words are adequate.”
—Johnny Bench, on former Reds second baseman Joe Morgan, who died on Monday.
Thanks, for the last quote, Tom. I was an avid Big Red Machine fan.
He also was one of the best, if not THE best TV baseball analyst I’ve ever heard. He broke the game down and consistently knew what and where the next pitch was going to be to every batter, when a play was going to be put on – like a bunt or hit and run or steal – and why defensive players were playing a hitter to pull or hit straightaway, etc.. He was just so very knowledgeable but low-key so as not to seem smug in his assessment of the game. I still think he would’ve made a great manager.
Now that you mention it, he was an excellent broadcaster. By the way, I had some hard times in the Williams household, as my father and mother were diehard Dodger fans.
It was refreshing to finally hear reporter(s) forcing Senator Cornpone have to defend and prove his wild, silly statements! He has been doing this for ages and some folks thought he was “refreshing!” Actually, he is an embarrassment if Louisiana has any shame, left for electing him in the first place.
I hope we remember that in a couple years when he runs for re-election.
I certainly will. At this point, I see no way he can possibly redeem himself. He has gone from being an embarrassment as a Will Rogers wannabe to being an even bigger embarrassment as a member of the non-anonymous liars contingent of the Republican Party. Those who support him need to realize he is convinced they are stupid enough to buy disingenuous misrepresentations like his most recent and to vote to re-elect him.
P. S. I heard another very disheartening interview on NPR this morning with an Iowa farmer. He acknowledges that the Trump trade deals hurt him and his bottom-line deeply and with other negatives the reporter pointed to. He then said he is voting for Trump because he knows what to expect from him and fears what Biden might do.
Stephen, do you think the soybean farmers in this state feel the same way?
Ask most people in Louisiana why they vote for John Neely Kennedy and they can’t tell you. But they do and will vote for him. And get him reelected. And that’s the way it is here. Moving forward is not the direction we take in this state.
Let me add that what Max Boot says in today’s WAPO can easily be applied to our undistinguished senator and those who vote for him.
“The very fact that so many are so willing to believe such balderdash about Biden — a lifelong centrist who remains far more articulate and coherent than Trump — is a worrisome sign of how cut off from rational, factual discourse so much of the country has become. Many voters are still supporting Trump because they’re living in a hermetically sealed disinformation bubble that is impermeable to reality.”

I agree with some of about both. I’m not sure who I voted for in the election, Kennedy or the other guy or girl in the second. I don’t vote: race, gender, and last of all “f…..g” party. I do have strong religious beliefs and it you are anti-Christ, anti-Semitic, Patriate hater, USA hater, Constitutional hater, Standing for the National Anthem hater; a phony, money greedy, fast talking (put you hands on the TV) two-faced, (White or Black) preacher, who’s only real belief in the WORD is his twisted mind sees “sce….” standing up is too much like dancing” (a mortal….the Israelites danced around Jerusalem and wine was served at meals, because wine keep for months with refrigeration and who know???? The book of Luke teaches about ECXESSES!! ), and at the risk of being called, “Islamaphobica”, which if that roll is called, I’m going to “heaven” because the BIBLE says, JUST NOT LEST Ye BE JUDGE (or something close). I can judge your treatment of fellow man! I cant judge you belief in GOD, HER or HIM , only He or SHE can> Such BS is like my friend from Dallas, Dan. Dan C. quotes MOLLY Irvins, the great columnist and author when summarizing some of the conflicts in life and misinterpretations of the soul as: “FIGHTING for PEACE” or SCR….. for VIGINITY.” I have been a deputy sheriff and over 40 years in two parish and worked under cover all over the state of Louisiana. I can tell you out front, Clay Higgins crap isn’t embraced by true Christians in Law Enforcement, White or black without judging the religious belief, ONLY God, Him Or Her know that. Instead much of his antics or an embarrassments, as are Senator “Cornpone.” When each maybe forget to take their second “ant-stupid” pill at lunch, and say over the top as our Crazy Insane President who is a Genius at knowing how to play the press and the warring factions, but he gets bitten in the butt by his big mouth. I disagree with 90% of BLM which has been highjacked by radicals as the White Supremacism movement has 100% since 1803 and before and before. I have another two pages but I’m a cop in his second retirement as a security guard at mall. Later, Chester Pritchett. sue me or delete.
Shoot, Chester, I’m not suing you or deleting. First of all, I haven’t seen where you libeled anyone – certainly not me – and I don’t censor anyone for their opinions as long as they aren’t racist or obscene.
