The take down of those nutcases up in Michigan yesterday provided an obscure but interesting link to a Louisiana congressman, a link that LouisianaVoice first revealed more than three months ago, back on June 26.
In case you’ve been in a coma or living under a rock, six men have been charged in federal court with conspiracy to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and seven other men are facing separate state terrorism charges for their involvement with the Wolverine Watchmen, a militia group affiliated with the Boogaloo movement.
NBC News said Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta were charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping. In a recent social profile verified by date of birth, Croft wore a tricorn hat and a sweatshirt with the insignia of the Three Percenters (emphasis mine), an armed anti-government movement.
The Three Percenters, founded in 2008 following the election of Barack Obama as president, draws its name from the unsubstantiated assertion that only 3 percent of American colonists actually fought the British during the American Revolution.
If they are striving for 3 percent of America for its membership numbers, that would appear to be a bit ambitious. If they represented 3 percent of the U.S. population today, they would number nearly 10 million members instead of fewer than 100,000 suspected members of such militia groups scattered throughout the U.S.
Other similar organizations are the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer and at least seven Louisiana organizations identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as hate groups.
And while Donald Trump insists that all violence, rioting and looting is the handiwork of liberals and antifa, the latest arrests should dampen that rhetoric somewhat. But then there is also this:
- Oath Keeper Charles Dyer was sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping his own 7-year-old daughter.
- The president of a local Ohio chapter was jailed for keeping a live napalm bomb in his home.
- An armed Tennessee man driving a pickup truck with an Oath Keepers logo on it was arrested when he attempted to place two dozen officials in a town under arrest, a-la Gomer Pyle.
- In March 2018, Michael B. Hari, a former sheriff’s deputy who once submitted a proposal to build Donald Trump’s wall on the southern US border, was one of three men arrested in connection with the bombing of a mosque in Minnesota. Hari at the time headed up a group called the White Rabbit Three Percent Illinois Patriot Freedom Fighters Militia.
- Three Percenters have served as self-appointed, heavily-armed “border patrols, attempted to detonate a car bomb outside a bank in Oklahoma City in 2017, and served as self-appointed security during the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that turned deadly in August 2017.
In June, LouisianaVoice published a story that showed an affiliation between the Three Percenters and Livingston Parish’s CAJUN GUARD.
In March 2018, it turns out, U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District hinted to representatives of the oil and gas industry that he was a MEMBER of the 3 Percenters.
“Some of you know, some of you perhaps do not, that the Revolutionary soldiers that gave birth to this nation represented only three percent of the populace, the colonists,” he erroneously told attendees at the Expanding Global Gas Infrastructure seminar. “Some of us refer to ourselves as ‘Three Percenters,” he added (emphasis mine).
While it was not immediately clear whether Higgins really counted himself as an active member of any Three Percenter chapter, he has done little to dispel any such notion. He would again be linked to the organization two months later when he hawked T-shirts with what appeared to be a Three Percenter logo on the backs.
The shirts were distributed to participants in a “Redemption Ride,” a jeep and motorcycle ride with Higgins and Dog the Bounty Hunter. Online payments for the shirts were processed as individual contributions to Higgins’s congressional campaign.
The link to that online store, which sold clothing and accessories in preparation for the civil war that some members appear to anticipate – and relish – has since been taken down.
Higgins, by the way, is up for reelection on Nov. 3. A vote for him could be perceived as an endorsement of the planned kidnapping of the governor of Michigan. You have to ask yourself the following questions:
- Is this really what America stands for?
- Is the darkness that has swept over this country productive?
- Is this what I really want for my children and grandchildren?
- When will the madness that has permeated this country end?
- Is violence and insurrection the answer?
- What can I do to end the vitriol?
Answer: you can vote.
I can’t tell you how to vote – and I wouldn’t – because that’s in your own heart and while I may not agree with your choice, it’s your right to make it.
But if you don’t vote, you have no right to complain about any aspect of our government.
….but it’s all just “white supremacist garbage”, huh Zoe!?
I’m sure you are right Kam. Just like all of the rioters, looters, vandals, 1st amendment protestors are Republicans. No one is defending those people, but you seem to defend Antifa, BLM etc. Those are some real prize people.
BTW, are you implying in any way, shape, or form that I support these people who intended to harm the Governor?
No, so far you only refer to it as “white supremacist garbage”. But hey, let me know how that works out for you.
kamarcan, nothing’s going to change Zoe’s mind. Sometimes light just can’t penetrate the darkness. She will find a way to (a) justify the militia’s actions, (b) make her usual personal replies to each of us and (c) somehow turn the entire series of events back onto Obama.
But at least she’s entertaining.
And Ben, with each succeeding post, you show how small and narrow minded you are. It is amazing that a grown man (I assume) cannot tolerate a different opinion without trying to belittle that person. It is hardly a goal to entertain. You evidently cannot tolerate deviation from your apparent narrow scope of the political world. I am sorry for your wife and children.
Well Ben… bullseye on all three counts, lol. She really is trumps creature.
I was prepared to make a one time donation wth my credit card but I do not see this as an option. I donot belong to Pay Pal. anncoco
You don’t have to belong to Pay Pal. All you have to do is click on the yellow DONATE button in the column to the left of this post. It will allow you to make your contribution by credit card. It routes the payment to my Pay Pal account. Or, if you’d rather pay by check, you can mail your contribution to:

Either way, thanks so much for supporting LouisianaVoice!
We discussed the intransigence of Covid45’s and the Republican party’s supporters in a political science class I am taking under LSU-OLLI yesterday. I have now come to accept the fact I cannot influence anybody to change, no matter how many posts I make here, on Facebook, and elsewhere, how many columns I write, or how many informal speeches I make. I estimate, based on Nate Silver’s excellent analysis, only some 2-3% of the population are currently undecided. I was naïve enough to believe this small, but significant, number of people would still be able to make different political decisions and that my ramblings could influence them. I now believe they will probably either split their votes or simply not vote. I will continue to try to get people to vote, but nobody is going to get through to anybody who has decided (apparently irreversibly) how they are going to vote, much less what they choose to believe about anything. IF it is possible for them to change, it will have to come from within. I recognize I have become a bore and promise to try to do better – despite the fact I believe we are at a truly critical existential point. I may not be able hold back entirely, but I will try to only pipe up in extraordinary circumstances (for which the bar is set quite high by daily happenings).
Stephen, I’ve experienced all of those feelings recently and I’ve also dialed back my responses here a bit. But, I very much appreciate your viewpoint here and hope you will continue to contribute while we endure the worst part of this treacherous bastards attempt to remain in office.

I agree with the bulk of your statement. I believe there are 40-45% hardcore on each side with10-15% who can go either way, and often do, from election to election.
The goal is to influence that small group of why they should chose a side. The best way (to me) is to present your ideology and allow these people to decide. You are not going to convince someone by calling them stupid if they disagree with you, huh Kam?
I believe in capitalism with some control, I believe in the Constitution as written, and the rights granted. I believe in self determination. I believe people should be responsible for their personal choices. I do not believe you have a right to not be offended. I do not believe that socialism will ever work in a real world. I do not believe government has a right to make decisions for me. I think abortion ignores the right of a child, and a child is not a lessor human. I also believe we cannot judge people in the past by societal standards of today.
It is my personal belief that the modern Democrat Party is pretty much opposed to all of the above that I have stated. It is incredible that John (Jack) Kennedy uttered the words “ask not what your country can do for you, ask for what you can do for your country”. He would be expelled from that party today for saying that. No one here seems to want to defend the Democrat Party and some seem downright indignant when asked. Of course no one owes me an explanation. I never said you did. The mere fact that you do not defend your beliefs but instead attempt to belittle and condescend speaks for itself.
This is fake news. If you watched the video they look and act like Antifa. I have given you too much credit in the past. You just aren’t credible anymore.
Oh..and Jessie Smollet got threatened by some noose carrying, red hat wearing guys screaming MAGA country 🙄🤦♂️
So, tell me, L (since you won’t put your real name out there), just what does an Antifa look and act like? I really wish you’d tell us because we honestly don’t know. Please enlighten us. And weren’t the Null brothers (two of the 13 implicated in the plot) with the militia members that took over the Michigan state house in April? Don’t believe Antifa was involved in that little fiasco.
It’s too bad you have to dredge up a single isolated incident like Jessie Smollet (who did a very stupid, idiotic thing – apparently desperate for attention much like you) to make your point when I could so easily lob at least two or three dozen of Trump’s half-assed, totally debunked claims back in your face (I just don’t have the time to waste on you).
Gotta love the way Trump defenders like you label everything critical of him as fake news but jump in on conspiracy theories like Hillary eating babies, pizza parlor and online furniture dealers involved in child trafficking rings and claims that the shootings at Sandy Hook didn’t really happen – that the victims were actors – like it was the gospel. Can you see a little problem here?
I believe someone observed the last time you commented that you needed to adjust your tinfoil hat. Personally, I believe you need to check into rehab. You’re obviously delusional.
As for you criticizing anyone’s credibility, I will put Jethro Bodine’s creds up against yours any day.
Haha. The news media and the left bit hard on Smollett. Wait until you figure out that his hoax was meant to support anti-noose legislation written by none other than phonies Kamala Harris and Corey Booker. Michelle Obama also played a part in the cover up. Like Smollett, this is a complete BS narrative. Wait for it. You blow hards fall for it every time but never retract when you are wrong.
I hope what Tom was pointing out is that there are bad actors out there on both sides. No party should want any affiliation with these people. If Trump stepped up and provided bail like some other prominent politicians we all know, I would be aghast.
Angelo, I did not see any mention of Trump in “L” comment. But surely you know what Antifa look and act like; pretty much everyone can recognize these thugs immediately. Do you assume everyone who has a different opinion from you is crazy? You might be shocked to find that many think pretty much the same as you ie. that Democrats wear tinfoil hats. Can’t we simply disagree without lowering ourselves to playground level behavior?
Well, the supposed kidnap attempt has not been proved in court. And everybody knows that there is no corruption in the FBI nor the Michigan State Police. We also know that real snitches get paid a lot more than $7K for something like this. The whole thing stinks of Jesse Smollett tactics. What we do know is that the governor of Michigan is an in-the-open felon. A criminal who has abused power, and has violated Title 18 USC Sec 242. She has caused the death of many by her unsound and unlawful orders, subjecting her to the death penalty if found guilty. If in fact these patriots were planning a felony arrest, lawful in Michigan, then they are not guilty of any crime. In fact, some suggest that the corruption in the FBI and the MSP, along with the corrupt Democrat Party in Michigan, hatched a plan to railroad these fellows, just like similar forces hatched a plan to railroad the President. If people do not wake up, these types will have everyone who doesn’t bow in a prison camp soon.
Bruce, you are one scary, delusional individual if you think for one nanosecond that those idiots are “patriots.” You and your Q-Anon buddies need to step back from your fantasy world of make-believe before you soil your pants.
Keep reporting fake news. 🙄😜
So… let me get this straight…you’re defending “these patriots” (your words, not mine) with a couple tweets and a conspiracist blog? It will be interesting to see if your characterization will stand up against the federal charges against them.
Clowns. Totally a Trump supporter. 🙄
???
Not sure what you’re trying to say, L. But then, that’s not at all unusual for you.
Hey hey.
https://bongino.com/man-accused-in-michigan-governor-kidnapping-plot-called-trump-a-tyrant-made-anti-cop-comments/
Oh, the former Secret Service agent and three-time loser in his attempt to get himself elected to congress? That one? You mean the guy who hijacked the Secret Service brand to promote his writing career.
Is this what you refer to when you talk about credibility?
Thanks for clearing that up for us.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Bongino
Tom, I do not think because one loses an election makes him a “loser”. I do not think the loss makes you more or less credible. Lots of people whom you disagree with are elected and re-elected and you do not seem to think they are credible.
The guy (Bongino) was, in fact a Secret Service Agent. He was also a police officer. He deserves respect for that alone.
I think it takes a lot of courage to put oneself out there as a candidate for anything. Politicians have to take a lot of abuse. I would not, and I assume you would not either. At least this guy tried.
I (cynically) believe politics is often just about money and many people will prostitute themselves to get elected. Why would anyone donate millions of dollars to a candidate and not expect something back ? That seems to be the underlying problem with the Congress right now. Term limits would help a little.
I’m sure you are ready to retract this under-researches, fake news propaganda. Good thing you serve the low information crowd.
https://amp.detroitnews.com/amp/6060368002?__twitter_impression=true
So, why would I retract anything? The link you provided only underscores the deranged thinking in this country. I’m afraid you don’t have much of a future as a defense attorney; this argument wouldn’t carry much weight in a court of law – or anywhere else.
As for serving a low-information crowd, here’s a test for you:
No peeking now.
How many Constitutional amendments are there?
What are the first 10 Amendments called?
How many members are there in the House of Representatives?
How many Senators?
How many representatives does Louisiana have?
How many state representatives are in the Louisiana legislature?
How many senators?
How many jurors must vote guilty to get a felony conviction?
What is the difference between preponderance of the evidence and beyond a reasonable doubt?
If you are beaten illegally by an officer of the law and you seek redress in court, would you file a civil or criminal claim?
Remember, no peeking. And if you can’t answer at least half of these correctly, you’re part of that “low-information” crowd.
You have a nice day, too.

Sorry, Mr. Frost, but you’re not holding me “accountable” with this redstate.com as your source. Why not Alex Jones or OAN or Newsmax? They’re all have about the same credibility as Trump or Marjorie Taylor Greene or “Gym” Jordan.
You can’t rely on internet crackpot sources like this as a foundation for logical debate.
Get back to me when you have something of substance to discuss.
If no one holds you accountable, you’ll keep writing this garbage.
