“We’ve arrived at a moment in this campaign that we all knew . . . we’d get to — the moment when Donald Trump would be so desperate, he’d do anything to hold on to power.”
—Joe Biden, speaking in Pittsburgh on Monday.
“[T]he more chaos and anarchy and vandalism and violence reigns, the better it is [for the president].”
—None other than departing Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway. [For once, not presenting an “alternative fact.”}
“Rioting is not protesting. Looting is not protesting. Setting fires is not protesting. . . . It’s lawlessness, plain and simple, and those who do it should be prosecuted. Violence will not bring change; it’ll only bring destruction. It’s wrong in every way. I look at this violence and I see lives and communities and the dreams of small businesses being destroyed. Donald Trump looks at this violence and he sees a political lifeline.”
—Joe Biden, again speaking in Pittsburgh on Monday. [The voice of reason would condemn violence on either side. That’s what Biden has done.]
“And Trump? Invited at a news conference Monday evening to condemn violence by his supporters, he declined. [C]alm won’t come unless and until the American president acts like a human being — not a cornered animal.”
—Dana Milbank, The Washington Post, Aug. 31, 2020.
“[Y]ou have right-wing extremists coming in trying to take advantage of the cover of the protests to carry out these violent acts and they are trying to start a race war.”
—Elizabeth Neumann, who recently resigned from her high-level post in Trump’s Department of Homeland Security.
“the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20, 2017, safety will be restored.”
—Candidate Donald Trump at the Republican Convention in Cleveland, in 2016. [Four years since he said that, and 3 years and 7 months since Jan. 20, 2017. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, are we better off today than we were four years ago in terms of violence and anarchy? I think you can check that box NO.]
I am at a loss on this. I hear reason and calm and react with a sigh of relief….then I hear Trump rant mindlessly and I feel the unease that I have since he became president….BUT, my larger fear is the Trump supporters that accept any vicious lie that he spouts. God help us to help our selves and vote this monster and the Party that he rode in on OUT! But….What will his rabid supporters do? They are family, “friends”, neighbors, church folks….what will they do when they don’t get their FOX/Trump tweets? We need to have a plan to deal with them….
IF he is not successful bringing about the Helter Skelter that Charlie Manson wanted. If he is, those of us left will be too busy picking up the pieces of our lives to worry about much else – and, imagine if he was still President then how he could capitalize on that. Seems less unrealistic daily.
So Joe hides out for over three months…then emerges from his burrow to slam rioters? Where was this condemnation beginning when the first burnings and lootings occurred? Did the constant polling from the DNC finally reveal what every American already knew…that anarchists and radical malcontents are generating massive property and community damage, which now includes human life?
Now Punxsutawney Joe emerges from his burrow to enlighten us that there will be six more weeks of rioting ( a joke, but not far from reality ). But of course, the rioting is Trump’s fault…just ask Joe.
I just heard from a close relative ( and avoved Progressive ) that it is, in fact, the RNC who is burning down police stations, looting businesses, lighting American flags ablaze, and intimidating citizens so they can make the “message” of the protests “look bad”. This woman holds multiple degrees and is a noted person of rank at our state’s most valued university. I ask you…can anyone be so naive? Do any of you actually believe such a fairy tale? Let us all hope not.
Outlaw, I have a better question: where is Donald Trump right now? He was asked about condemning the violence yesterday and he took a pass. It seems that all he wants to do is fan the flames as a distraction to the pitiful job he’s done on the coronavirus epidemic – or as you might say, hoax.
As for the theory that white nationalists like the Boogaloo, Q Anon, the Three Percenters, the Oath Keepers may have infiltrated Black Lives Matter and Antifa, is that really any more “out there” than the story circulating that Hillary eats babies, or that Wayfair Furniture’s alleged involved in human trafficking? Seriously?
You have a decidedly narrow view of the world and every time you post a comment like this, you’re really putting it out there – and it ain’t very self-flattering.
Apparently your relative has fallen victim to the universe of information we all have to try to find truth in everyday and failed, for whatever reason. It does demonstrate that even people with good intellect can come to conclusions that make no logical sense or, perhaps worse, pay so little attention to reality as to not be part of it.
In any case, I can envision no circumstances under which I would vote for Donald Trump and I find it hard to imagine anybody who looked at him, read his tweets, or listened to him would even consider him as a viable candidate for anything other than mean-spirited entertainer.
So, bad-mouth Biden all you want and realize, if he wins, you will have participated in the groundwork for further disunity in this country. But, no matter what, he is apparently a real human being with actual human characteristics Trump lacks. Trump has clearly demonstrated he only cares about himself and his daughter, Ivanka. You may rest assured he would not urinate on you if you were burning up (and not just you).
