“When somebody is the president of the United States, the authority is total.”
—Donald Trump, at Monday’s coronavirus update [No, Mr. Trump, you are as wrong as a monkey in a mortuary. We’re not living under a totalitarianism system….yet.]
“You said when someone is president of the United States, their authority is total. That is not true. Who told you that?”
—CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, in a follow-up to that nonsense.
“Enough.”
—Donald Trump, cutting Collins off as he always does when he feels the heat of his untruths.
In answer to the final question he could have said, “Kim Jong-un”, “Vladimir Putin”, or any of the other international depots he admires and from whom he seems to take counsel and/or attempts to emulate.
Mr. Winham….I also think Trump listens to those voices in his otherwise empty head, telling him only grandiose lies about his worth. I am wondering what will happen when the day comes that he is forced to leave our White House because he is what he is…. a “dangerous nothing burger?”
I hope that quote wakes up Roberts and the rest of the Supremes. At some point they will have to intervene.

Almost as frightening to me as the possible re-election of Trump is the possibility that 5-4 SCOTUS will rule in Trump’s favor on all the cases before them that involve him.
Context of questioning might be useful.
Stephen, I do not recall Trump telling Putin he would have “more flexibility” after the election when he would have more freedom to do as he pleases like another recent President. Nor do I recall any other President trying to make headway with Chairman Kim (who is certifiable) to stop shooting rockets all over the place, including over Japan. Past Presidents were afraid to do anything at all and chose to ignore. Remember, these people seized one of our destroyers years ago.
When he is “forced to leave our White House”.? What does that mean….is he being evicted ? If he is a “dangerous nothing burger” what exactly is your concern ? His empty head ? I cannot imagine what kind of person could sit around slinging offhand insults at a person they have never met who is doing a job that she herself could not possibly do, and for free at that.

Zoe, you seem to think that a president, upon taking office, is required to decide whether he will accept the salary or donate it to good causes. That is a personal decision made by presidents. History shows us that many more presidents donated their salaries. However, most of them were wealthy or from wealthy families, such as Trump. I believe Obama donated about one third of his salary to charitable causes. Anyway, you use the word “free”. Do presidents pay rent, mortgage, utility and cable bills? Do presidents pay for gas or jet fuel? What about breakfast, lunch, and dinner? If I didn’t have to pay for those things when I was working, I would have donated some of my salary. On the seized American warship, are you talking about the Pueblo that was seized in 1968??!! On the missile launches, please do some research on the number of North Korean missile launches that have been done during the Trump administration as compared to past presidents.
I like ‘general Honore’s quote that he wasn’t going to do stupid. As he was relating to questions from reporters that were unrealistic. I have had it with fact checking “stupid” the same way…. I once heard a govertment council needed to do it work in this sort of way, listen to the one percent that claimed the earth was flat and listen to the other extreem that says alians are real…Then do the work of the normal 99 percent. Thus I have had it chasing down false hoods generally of the political right. Because in a debate one side says we never landed on the moon and the other side says we did not does not make the two groups have the same truths or allowance for credibility.
If one remembers when the former soviet union collapsed the first president was the former mayor of Moscow. When Putin came in he like other tirants Hitler etc, gradually gained power, newsmedia, commercially over industries, politically. It was not immediate control as he has today. Immediately after the fall we provided all kinds of help. I recall my father, a Louisiana Attorney having publications of the Louisiana bar association and similar, sending legal deligations to help establish the judicial system. Thus confusing Obama’s first term saying with where we are today is to forget that it was his Secretary of State so forcefully attempted to support the democratic concept in Russa that Putin put massive help behind her defeat.
As to the point, about N Korea this statement is so far out of bounds from every president from Truman to Obama that it borders on Trumps “who knew” statements, which to me must mean, I didn’t know or was too lazy to know. Obama even cautioned Trump about N Korea. And his result, greater nuk capacity than when he took office and missles fired this week. So much for quotes from Trump similar to “Americans don’t have to worry about N Korea having the nuk!”, or “Wonderfull respectable, LOVE letters” . So many false comment and quotes if it looks like it is false, smell like it and would probably taste like it I am no longer going to do DNA testing on it. If one is supporting Trump it must be assumed to be false until proven correct. “Like his total authority to restart the country, not the Govorners of the various states.” Yep, I got that one right and I didn’t even have to open my pocket copy of the Constution. PS if it reads like a draft that is because that is all it deserves.
In a letter to Lord Action, an English Historian, in 1866, General Robert E. Lee predicted that if the federal government centralized its power by becoming the sole judge as to the extent of its powers, then the United States would become “aggressive abroad and despotic at home.”
Zoe, please read the Constitution, the same document Trump claimed “to love” (specifically the Tenth Amendment) at a recent press conference, which are turning out to be an exercise in megalomania and narcissism..which is while most have quit watching. “Tales told by an idiot, signifying nothing.” (forgive me, Bard).
Quo warranto? The governors issued the individual orders to “close” and to “open”. When we have hurricanes who issues an “state of emergency”? In this COVID19 sideshows that Trump’s daily briefings have become, the governors are stealing his thunder.
Zoe, congrats, great job, Perscale loves you, I remember the Pueblo ?? incident, thought it was a spy/communication ship not a destroyer, understand your fun albeit very dangerous with a lying egomaniac in office. Great comments, Tom and thanks ron thompson
Just read that Trump thinks he can unilaterally adjourn congress. The constitution gives him the authority to do so only when there is a disagreement on adjournment between the two bodies.
