“He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
—Donald Trump, who avoided capture during the Vietnam War by getting five draft deferments (one for bone spurs on his heel), speaking about Sen. John McCain at a Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, on July 17, 2015.
How is your TDS today? For the rest of us, the economy is still booming, consumer confidence is still high, border crossings are still on the decline, and Donald J Trump is still headed for an historic re-election.
Have a nice day.
Tom, you may want to save outlaw53’s quote to use at a later date. Those kinds of boasts do have a way of coming back to bite one’s backside.
I find it amazing the things that Trump supporters use to evaluate his performance as President. I also always wonder at that “border crossings” numbers and if they are down, what are many American businesses doing for workers. I understand that town in Mississippi had bus loads of illegals shipped back by ICE, is still in economic peril. I still believe that a real danger to our democracy are “those that do not know that they do not know!” Trump supporters don’t know a whole lot of things…
there are none so blind as those who refuse to see. In other words, the only thing harder than speaking truth to power is speaking truth to stupid. And for some mysterious reason, many trumpians behave as though they are blind and stupid when it comes to refusal to believe their cult leader is anything but dead wrong. To them, he really could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and be excused for it. Actually, he would intimidate someone else into doing it for him, then say it never happened, and if it did it was not a crime, then walk away while the sycophant shooter does jail time.
Ms. Herring, you are so correct about the danger to our democracy being the ignorance of the populace. May I propose that that all commenters on Louisiana Voice state whether they are or are not Fox viewers.
I know one thing Edith you are about as sharp as a marble.
Sidbury, you’re full of cute comebacks but as yet I’ve not seen a legitimate defense of Trump from you. Why don’t you abandon your John Kennedy folksy bon mots (because they really aren’t that clever) and try to be relevant to the conversation?
In every forum in which I’ve participated, it comes to this. When all else fails, personally insult the opposition. It is a game well-played by President Trump and his followers. What would his wife say (unless she has abandoned her somewhat ironic crusade against bullying) – ironic because she lives with our Bully-in-Chief.
I hate to see this page sink to name calling those whom we disagree. Trump was elected to do a job, which I believe he is doing. Corruption is being exposed everywhere which is what Tom was all about. This would not have happened if the witch were elected. Trump is not a person of sterling character, but most of us are not perfect either.
I do not like besmirching John McCain’s military service, but he was, in fact a weasel. I also believe Bill Clinton dodged the draft; So did a lot of people who felt that Vietnam was a pointless and useless war (thanks JFK and LBJ).
I am waiting to see objective posts of stupid quotes by Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Hillary Clibton, Adam Schiff, Charles Schumer etc. In the meantime, I am grateful for the changes made by Trump to pull us out of the hole created by Bush-Obama era.

What was that about name calling?
JFK was considering withdrawing from Vietnam when he was killed. It was LBJ, with his Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, that got the U.S. fully embroiled in that quagmire. There remains serious doubt as to whether the Gulf of Tonkin “incident” ever really occurred (there was even a TV movie about that), but LBJ used it to ramp up military action in ‘Nam. Now it looks as though Trump will use similar tactics to further embroil us in the Mideast (thanks military-industrial complex).
The hard truth, Zoe, is if you’re looking for white hats, there are none. The good guys—Republicans and Democrats alike—don’t seem to exist in D.C. anymore. They’ve all sold their souls to corporate PACs.
This won’t age well. Songbird McCain was a treasonous scumbag.
Seriously? While a POW, he was offered his release because his father was an admiral—but he refused to leave his fellow prisoners. This makes him treasonous while Trump played the chicken hawk with his bone spurs?
You have a strange definition of treason, my friend—but a pretty good double standard.
I’ve seen the same garbage that you’ve obviously swallowed. Here’s what one of McCain’s fellow prisoners had to say about your B.S. treason story:
George “Bud” Day and Orson Swindle, fellow POWs, told PolitiFact that POWs sometimes were forced to talk when they were tortured, but they tried to tell lies to mislead their captors.
“We were all tortured and we wrote confessions under the pressure of torture,” said Swindle, who was a cellmate with McCain and is active in his campaign. “John McCain never collaborated with the enemy. He, like every one of us, submitted to severe torture. John McCain did nothing dishonorable. He was heroic.”
Well Fred, I was referring to each of the posters running down other posters. As for the”witch” reference, I was trying to be polite. Perhaps witch was excessively kind.
I used to wonder if, but this post proves, you simply post to remuer la merde. A name-caller might label you a troll, but I don’t get into name-calling.
