We won! Let it go, Tom. Enjoy the holidays.
We shouldn’t forget a single detail about the past 8 years….If our memories had been better two terms ago, we would have recalled millions of dollars lost for Louisiana through the Department of Health and Hospitals with Bobby J. as secretary—at his direct order!
Point and lesson: Those who do not remember the past are condemmed to repeat it.
Mystery Cartoonist – this installment gave me a huge belly laugh! Quick question: do antacids come with Mike the Tiger’s dream meal?
Politicallypooped: spot on. Some of us with long memories tried to warn people but we got laughed at and criticized. Now we get apologies. Too late. The “low information” types get what they deserve, and the rest of us have to suffer the consequences of their poor choices. In some cases, people such as recent retirees, will suffer for the rest of their lives.
“The “low information” types get what they deserve, and the rest of us have to suffer the consequences of their poor choices.”
Indeed. For those ‘low information’ types who would like to raise their level of awareness, Thomas Frank’s “What’s the Matter With Kansas” and “The Wrecking Crew” couldn’t be more recommended. Frank bounced around a bit from WSJ to Harper’s and now to Salon where you can read his more current articles.
@Politicallypooped
It’s just part of the “defund and privatize” conservative strategy. It fits hand-in-glove with the “debt ceiling” crowd in it’s effects on state budgets. As state budgets become more and more stressed, the privatize crowd comes in to see the appropriate businesses are given their ‘rightful’ place at the government trough.
“Let it go…”??
This pig of a governor attacked the people of his own state by turning away free Federal funds available under USDA waivers for food assistance, knowing that his fellow neo-liberal corporate prostitutes have facilitated the offshoring of every job possible. Jobs, I might add, that are necessary for Louisianians to actually earn a living. He deserves every nuance of scorn that can be heaped upon him. He’s a traitor to his own people and I personally hope that he burns in he**.

AsYouLikeIt – Without being argumentative, I would disagree with just one of your comments. Jindal deserves every nuance of scorn, and more, as you stated, but he is not now nor has he ever been one of us. We in Louisiana are not his people. He has made it abundantly clear that he never cared a whit about our citizens, only about himself.
I think one of the saddest things about him is that he has spent his life trying to fit in with a specific group, that really has no use for him, while scorning those who truly would have made him feel welcome. The one percenters showed him the door, and he is now a pariah to the voters of Louisiana.
But he managed to take advantage of his various political positions, as jindal discloses that his wealth is far greater than most, amassed while he pretended to be a public servant. Guess those one percenters can smile and hold their noses while forking it over. Cue the old ditty “Karma Chameleon.” (With apologies to Boy George and the Culture Club.)
Thanks for the comment em. I do appreciate different perspectives. It made me realize how little I know of his background, so I went to wikipedia for quick readup. His family is of upper caste Indian background (spelled privileged) and he’s an overachiever, which can mean, and apparently does in his case, that he would sacrifice relationship for personal advantage. He’s definitely highly intelligent given his schools and academic performance which can and apparently has caused him problems for an imperious bearing, i.e., a da** know-it-all, which could possibly carry over into areas where his expertise may be somewhat lacking. He’s also been caught up by neo-liberal Republican ideology, especially with his kudo’s from the Cato Institute. He’s quite politically astute, but his imperiousness seems to have gotten in the way of his ambitions by causing a failure to recognize his peers and toe the party line.
Sound like the man you know?
I still don’t see how he got elected in this state given it’s fairly rigid social and political structures. Every time I ask someone I’m told, “Don’t ask!”.
Let it go? We need to remember each day that the proposed policies of this administration has led the state down the rode of disaster. As another poster said, those who do not remember the past, are doomed to repeat it. I worked for the legislature for 25+ years and have never seen an administration involved in as much litigation as this one. If the legislature had listened to its seasoned staff, most, if not all, of the litigation could have been avoided.
But no, they listened to the nursery(the name we gave to the group of children who worked for Piyush). Also, what lawyer advises its client(the state) to sign a contract with 50 blank pages to be filled in later?
@clifford55
“We need to remember each day that the proposed policies of this administration has led the state down the rode of disaster.”
No doubt. The Republican ideology, as it exists today, is the ideology of scarcity. That is, scarcity for everyone but them. There’s a debt ceiling, unless they want more money to feed their interests. They’re believers in the Hayekian nightmare, so they want to destroy government itself. And so the go after it with a wrecking ball. TINA – There Is No Alternative. You will be assimilated. Yet, despite all the rhetoric, they’re nothing more than political prostitutes on bended knee to the billionaires. Laugh! It’s totally ridiculous. All of it. A bunch of someone’s idiot children running around spouting insanities. No wonder your group called them the nursery. Laugh, they’e someone’s idiot children. It’s the only way to explain it. They live in different reality.
[…] But we have no more tricks, no more one time money, a state rainy day fund that only has enough to rain a drop or two in the hole we’re in, and some of our institutions hammered over the last eight years left with little to no reserves either. Only the strongest may survive but that’s relative because the strongest is a starving tiger. […]
