It seems that Sen. Mike Walsworth (R-West Monroe) is not above a little chicanery and outright misrepresentation when it comes to salvaging a losing vote on behalf of Piyush Jindal.
When the Senate voted Wednesday on SB 47, which would change the computation of pension system benefits from an average of three years of compensation to a five-year average, the tally was 19-16, or one vote shy of the 20 votes needed.
Walsworth whined that he had been “pounding” on his computer during the vote and would like to have a re-vote. The Baton Rouge Advocate said he claimed that his voting machine malfunctioned. Either way, the Senate agreed, and approved the amended bill by a 23-13 vote.
But spectators in the Senate gallery clearly heard Walsworth tell Kristy Nichols, Gov. Piyush Jindal’s Deputy Chief of Staff, not to worry, that he would recall the bill.
Bottom line: there was no “pounding on the computer” and no “machine malfunction.”
But there was deception and outright lying on the part of Walsworth.
That’s the Piyush Jindal version of accountability, ethics and good government.

First I want to say thanks for keeping us informed so well. Next, I want to say this in case state employees have not realized it: if the increase passes we will be 25% (at the minimum) below what we should be making right now – 12% for the 3 merit increases we have not gotten (we won’t get one again this year) the 10% increase we had in insurance premimums (this year alone) and now either a 2 or 3% increase in retirement. I have to say that with the increase in groceries, gas and pretty much everything else I am scraping the bottom these days. I have run out of things I can pinch pennys for. I used to love to come to work; not so much anymore but I can’t afford to retire yet and if they do what they propose and take even more, I may well die sitting right here in this cublcle. And don’t forget that before Katrina we didn’t have to do Hurricane duty, one of many duties that have been added in the last 10 years.
Yesterday was employee appreciation day. I sure don’t feel very appreciated. Thanks for letting me sound off.
I agree with you. I used to like my job. It’s getting harder to afford necessities with no raises, no hope of any, and the contined robbing from ONLY A FEW state employees. I should have moved to Texas years ago!!
How could anybody in their right mind believe Sen. Walsworth’s cry for “malfunction on my machine”. When I read that this morning in the Advocate, I laughed and cried at the same time. Does he think everybody in the state will believe he is telling the truth? Was he even at his desk? The next time I burn something, I’m going to cry, “Hey, my stove malfunctioned.” My thoughts…the legislature is malfunctioning!

The Catholic Church has officially conducted exorcisms throghout its history. Your comment about “crazy exorcism,” Mr. Easter, therefore, could be construed as anti-Catholic. Democrats have increasingly become anti-Catholic because of the Church’s anti-abortion position, even though it was once a key constituency for the Democratic Party. I can’t say that I’m surprised you pick up on a subject that has been played out extensively on the extremist left blogs. I suppose the Lefties would similarly make fun of a person who claims to have been saved by Jesus Christ. Oh wait, That’s Obama’s claim. Can’t use that one.
