“I have had discussion with our attorneys concerning a citizens’ organization rally outside of the hospital. I am directing all employees and physicians not to attend this event either on or off the clock. There are potential serious legal issues with our participating in such an event. Violation of this directive may result in discipline (sic) action against you.”
–Larry Dorsey, administrator of University Medical Center in Lafayette, in a February 1 email to UMC employees directing them to not attend a public rally protesting the elimination of 130 positions at the hospital by the Jindal administration. (We suspect this directive actually came through Dorsey from higher up the food chain.)

So where is the TEA Party now that their hero Jindal is stomping all over the First Amendment rights of the people? Are they so blind or so biased that they trot out the First Amendment only when it is their free speech rights that are being challenged?
And as for our legislators, do they resent Jindal quashing any form of dissent? They should and they should demand that the governor stop such unconstitutional intimidation. If everyone called to testify before legislative committees has to white wash the facts in order to keep in Jindal’s good graces (and in the case of state employees keep their job), the legislature cannot effectively govern. They will be making decisions with incomplete and/or invalid information promulgated by Jindal and his ilk.
So come on TEA party and other constitution concerned groups, come down on the far right policies of the likes of Jindal in the same manner that you do on those on the far left.
The TEA party indeed. Where’s the ACLU? Will anybody take this guy to task? Why is everybody so afraid of this Napoleonic, tin horn dictator? State workers have no rights John, don’t you realize that? The legislature appears to be like so many zombies from a bad movie, except they are commanded by Master Bobby. Let’s see how many of them have the gumption to stand up to him this legislative session. I bet none do.
