–State Rep. John Bel Edwards (D-Amite), following testimony before the House Education Committee by Gov. Jindal only moments after committee member Nancy Landry (R-Lafayette) got approval by a 10-8 vote of her motion invoke a new rule requiring witnesses (read: teachers) testifying before the committee to say if they were on annual or sick leave from their jobs.

–Invitation from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to state legislators to attend ALEC’s Education Reform Academy in Amelia Island, Florida on Feb. 3-4. ALEC paid travel and hotel accommodations for attending legislators but barred the media and general public from the meeting.

–Florida attorney Robert Klausner, who specializes in public pension law, on court decisions in Arizona and New Hampshire which threw out pension reform laws that required state employees to contribute more to their retirement funds but which did not provide additional retirement benefits.

Jindal’s attempt to lower benefits, increase employee retirement contributions and to require employees to work longer to qualify for retirement–in violation of the state’s contract with employees.
