What I remember is that the extinct Republican party was always utterly phony hypocrites and the people who call themselves “Republicans” have always been fools. The same people who use to stand on their so-called “ideological principles” to complain about the government “picking winners and losers” enshrined pharmaceutical profits into law and made it illegal for Americans to purchase prescription drugs at a cheaper price outside our borders. This was at a time when the Bush administration was also expanding the size and scope of federal government with the Department of Homeland Security, gaslighting Americans about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and redefining torture so we could practice it. Soon to follow would be “death panels,” illegally harvesting aborted baby body parts, and CRT indoctrination. Is it any wonder then an ideologically bankrupt political party deteriorated into populist MAGA fascism? Or that the fascists would just stop bothering to pretend they were anything but fascists?
Big Pharma is hardly a Republican issue. Pharma is as Bi-partisan of an issue as war. It is all about money. Just like war. Congress has been under Democrat leadership a lot more than the other way around. Find it odd that they never did anything to rein in Pharma? Or close loopholes in the tax code? Or vote against funding war?
As for Homeland Security, I would like it to be the next Department that gets dismantled.
And as for “MAGA Fascism” I would suggest that it does not exist. If you Dems keep using the term as an identifying term , all you are doing in watering down what REAL Fascists did. Evidently, most Democrats slept through world history. There is not a single bit of Fascism or Naziism in the USA today perpetuated by Trump/Republicans and to suggest that there is, is appallingly ignorant.
MAGA fascists all suffer from the same condition: too much self-righteousness and too little self awareness. Here are fourteen characteristics of fascism embodied by MAGA.
1) Powerful and continuing nationalism
2) Disdain for the recognition of human rights
3) Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause
4) Military supremacy
5) Rampant sexism
6) Controlled mass media
7) Obsession with national security
8) Religion and government are intertwined
9) Corporate power protected
10) Labor power suppressed
11) Disdain for intellectuals and the arts
12) Obsession with crime and punishment
13) Rampant cronyism and corruption
14) Fraudulent elections
How is MAGA fascist? The entire MAGA brand is built on a powerful and continuing nationalism. Trump and his ICE Gestapo have trampled all over human rights by using immigrants as enemies/scapegoats and ordering the military onto US soil. Sexism is on full display, but the cowards hide it behind DEI paranoia. Trump has threatened, intimidated, and sued the media for reporting facts about him and his wannabe Fourth Reich or anything he doesn’t like. When questioned Trump often attempt to justify his actions with claims “millions of criminals and terrorists” are walking around free having come across Biden’s open border. Trump, a man who has never sat though a worship service, is somehow thought to be a savior for evangelicals and religious freedom by MAGA hypocrites. And stupid MAGA fascists have been protecting corporate power and neutering their own from way back when they were still hiding out in the extinct “Republican” party pretending to be “principled conservatives.” Everything to do with intellectuals and the arts is “woke” and somehow evil. Trump is obsessed with punishing anyone and everyone he perceives as enemies and is irredeemably corrupt, a convicted felon, with a long public bromance with a known pedophile he is now trying desperately to cover up. Trump has cast doubt on our elections since before he was even first elected. He calls any election he loses “rigged” and without evidence of any kind MAGA fascists use that excuse to restrict voting rights and tamper with the voting process. One last piece of evidence? MAGA is utterly devoted to Trump who, in their eyes, has done and can do no wrong. In other words, Zoe, MAGA is full blown fascist and the only thing that is “appallingly ignorant” are the stupid Americans who sold out to it so they could wallow in their prejudices with Trump.
