The hypocrisy of people who call themselves Christians is why the church is shedding worshippers like a dog sheds hair. No one forces Mike Johnson to proclaim his faith. But if he chooses to do so then he chooses to publicly hold himself to a higher standard than other men and to have others hold him to that standard as well by proclaiming his faith as something that sets him apart. To then make excuses for why it’s OK – this time, and maybe next time – to NOT live up to those high standards is pure hypocrisy. You either live it ALL the time or you don’t. And if you don’t then there’s nothing particularly special about your faith. From a Christian point of view that’s OK. Many Christians have a faith which is not particularly special. Many struggle trying to live out their faith. But it’s why you don’t stand up and proclaim your faith as something that sets you apart when you can’t (or won’t) live up to those standards in your own life every single day. True faith is not proud; it’s humble.
