Just a reminder to our readers that LouisianaVoice, like 90% of Denham Springs residents, took a tremendous hit from the devastating flood last week. We lost our home for months, perhaps for a year. We’re fortunate to have daughters living nearby and we’ve moved in with our youngest and while it’s crowded, it is a roof over our heads and a warm bed at night.
And while we do have flood insurance, it won’t come close to covering our losses of thousand of dollara. As most know, auto insurance won’t replace our vehicle lost in the flood.

Good luck Tom. I need that help too. I’m on SS disability and had no flood insurance and have a totaled house. Friends and family have been a great help gutting the house. I have a biopsy scheduled Wednesday (cancer suspected) and my wife has a knee replacement for 9/8. She just retired in July. I have donated to your blog once before and would’ve more often if I had the money. I wish you the best. We all need it. I just want to be there to see my wife back in a livable house. You can help me at a Go Fund Me account, I think it’s on Facebook and called Williamson Flood Assistance. Good luck to all and God bless everyone. Tom I know this is your blog and I love the work you do but I understand if you want to delete it. Thanks for all you do.
Hoping my donation was able to help out some.
Your previous column stated that you didn’t have flood insurance, which is it?
Subsequent to that initial post, at which time I did not believe I had flood insurance, my mortgage lender, LaCap Federal Credit Union informed by telephone that I a “forced buy” policy (a policy purchased by LaCap) in the amount of my loan ($40,000). That loan had been for improvements to my home and little of the loan amount had been paid since it was a relative recent loan. So, while it turns out I did have limited flood insurance, it was only sufficient to repay the loan but does not provide anything to repair flood damage or to replace furniture and appliances.
