“When I ran for Governor of Louisiana, I made a promise to the people of this state that I would not raise taxes. I kept my promise. I’ve taken a lot of heat from politicians and special interests, including some in my own party, for my refusal to raise taxes. To some politicians, principles are meant to be compromised on and promises are meant to be broken. When I said I wouldn’t raise taxes, I meant it.”
Bobby Jindal, in his best Joseph Goebbelesque claim that he balanced the 2015-16 budget without raising taxes despite $750 million in tax increases approved by the legislature.

Wasn’t that supposed to be $750million?
and without as opposed to with????
You are absolutely correct. That’s why I need a proofreader. Thanks for the heads up.
His propaganda team is right up there with Mr. Obama’s. They’re both excellent at what they do, but both are bad for the country.
If you are someone who does not care for the President and also the Governor, why would say that the Governor has been so bad? I am presuming that you disagree with the President’s policy agenda, but I’d have to think that if one disagrees with the President’s policy agenda that they certainly would be in favor of the Governor’s diametrically opposite policy agenda.
Jindal totally failed to appreciate the differences between the states and federal government. For example…
When Reagan lowered taxes, revenues to the treasury ballooned as the economy boomed (because taxes had been too high). However, when Jindal lowered taxes, revenues to the treasury dropped as the economy stagnated (because taxes had not been too high).
Also, all state taxes aren’t created equal. THE OIL CORPORATIONS HAVE TO GO TO WHERE THE OIL IS TO DRILL, SO ELIMINATING THEIR TAXES WILL NEVER CAUSE AN ECONOMIC BOOM. IT MERELY INCREASES THEIR PROFITS, WHICH ARE TAKEN ACROSS STATE LINES.
Jindal has basically treated Louisiana like a Sub-Saharan African country that’s rich in minerals but remains poor by every other measure, and it’ll remain that way as long as politicians use the state for their own gain and that of their friends and supporters, instead of lifting people out of poverty and ignorance.
By the way, Jindal is now boasting that he cut the civil service by around a quarter, but what’s hidden behind those numbers is a drastic decrease in services to the young, old, sick and poor.
And according to the Treasurer, while Jindal was busy laying off state workers and the services they provided, he was also busy hiring cronies at salaries so high that he actually managed to increase the civil service payroll.
Imagine that. Jindal froze hiring, froze salaries, slashed a huge percentage of the workforce, while increasing the payroll! LouisianaVoice has done a beautiful job of documenting many of Jindal’s high paid cronies. If I’m correct, some of them have replaced staff who previously made around $60k with cronies making over $300k, and he did that by granting them multiple titles, and then jacking the pay for each title up to the top of the pay scale!
Obama and Jindal run in parallel universes. Both promise many things but spin the actual results to fit their narrative. One calls himself a republican the other a democrat. Grind them up and you may get a small sack of dog food. One does not have the best interest of the state in mind and the other does not have the best interest of the country in mind. Both will go down in history as being one of, if not the worst governor/president to serve. And we will go down as the dumbest electorate in history for re-electing these two self serving politicians.
Jindal’s promise was to Grover Norquist, which is why he refused to sign a budget without first getting Grover’s approval. If the PEOPLE of Louisiana or their representatives disagreed with what Grover wanted, Jindal always sided with Grover.
And this whole promise about not raising taxes is a smokescreen. What this is really about is a scheme to setup tax codes around the country to shift tax burdens from the wealthy to the poor and middle class. The poor already pay more than double to tax rates of the wealthy, but that wasn’t good enough for Jindal. He wanted to eliminate income taxes and jack up already high sales taxes.
We are in the absurd situation where the poor and middle class pay taxes which are then refunded to corporations. Jindal has turned Louisiana into Dilbert’s “Elbonia”.
What’s just as bad is that so many of Louisiana citizens are ignorant or stupid to vote Piyush into office.
Your poem on Jindal (with apologies to Hell in Texas composer) was so good. You should run it again in your column for new readers! I especially liked the lines “You don’t sell out our state, from where we sit, Or the cloak of higher ambition will never fit; ” and ” you don’t enrich your friends on the backs of the poor Or you’ll find your poll numbers down in the sewer” !!!( well….poor and sewer might not rhyme…but the thought is appropriate. In fact , the whole poem could go viral…..since the nation will be looking at Piyush, for a minute anyway. Maybe the poem will make them more aware of his TRUE IMAGE. I hope so.
