“Like all of the governor’s self-created crises, the solution always seems to be to ask more of the people of our state: more money, more patience, more suspended disbelief.”
—State Rep. John Bel Edwards, commenting on the failure of Gov. Jindal’s promise of a $20 million a year savings with the privatization of the Office of Group Benefits.

Tom,
My husband and I are one of those LA state retirees attempting to live on a fixed income. GOD BLESS you and John Bel Edwards for speaking up for us old people. We need for y’all to continue to fight for us. If it were not for the two of you, people would not be aware of what ACTUALLY is going on. Please keep up the fight!!!! By the way, we truly appreciate you and Louisiana Voice!

When the State couldn’t pay its teachers a fair wage, they promised us benefits instead. Now they are taking those away too. Does he not realize that many teachers and state employees who are retired are not eligible ever to receive Medicare? Jindal is the reason why after voting Republican for 34 years, I am no longer and never will be Republican again. What he is doing is worse than anything Perry or Obama could ever think of doing to hurt “his” people. His anger at John White is such a farce because Jindal would have fired White for going against his beliefs like he has done to anyone else who has disagreed with him. Why do people keep defending this man? This all makes me sick to my stomach.
My retirement date is less than a month away, but my retirement income has already been cut because of Jindal’s neglect of state employees. Our cost of living raises have been canned the past 6-7 years seemingly to fund Jindal’s personal agenda and provide inflated salaries to his political contributors and cronies. My health insurance is now set to inflate beyond affordability because this horribly misguided, cruel and dishonest man is trying to cover up another of his idiotic actions—contracting with BCBS to administer our group benefits……OGB performed remarkably well for decades and was NOT for profit….BCBS is going to make its profit come hell or high water; it matters not what group members must pay to keep their coverage. Do your research: Jindal has been a dismal failure handling our money, Louisiana citizens, since he came on the scene as Mike Foster’s lap dog….he lost the state millions of dollars even then through his inept business decisions……I’ve been a faithful employee since 1981…if I had lied, cheated and mishandled my duties in a way even vaguely resembling what Jindal has done, I would have been fired years ago. It will be about 7 years before I am eligible for Medicare…but 2016 and getting rid of Bobby “The Joke” Jindal feels like its a million years away—hate I missed the punch line to his entire administration.
Perhaps the Boy Who Would Be King (BWWBK) has taken seriously the JFK mantra of “Ask not…..” Unfortunately in his version the only folks who do not have to “do for your country” are the 1%’s and the corporations they own…but then again we have been told that corporations are people to, except they do not have to go to jail when they ruin your life.
BJ already sounding like Obama-promises not kept, lies still being told. Is there anyone who can fight against the insurance changes about to happen to faithful Louisiana teachers? If we can’t survive on our little retirement checks now, how will we manage when insurance goes up, benefits drop, and copays increase?
