Funny how the same governor who fought so hard to render state employees destitute in their retirement years–and who is closing hospitals, laying off workers, privatizing state jobs and sending them out of state to contractors–never once hesitated to call on state employees to work emergency shelters and emergency food stamp application sites while he sleeps comfortably in the mansion at night.

He’s “caste” Louisiana in a new light…
Yes, he found them rooms at hotels with no hot water. They were told meals would be provided. One day at 2:00 PM they were still waiting for lunch….after having fruit cocktail and cold biscuits at 6:00 AM. But the state employees DID NOT give up. THEY WERE THERE for the CITIZENS OF LOUISIANA!
Why, dontcha’ know? You’re spose’d to be grateful you even have a job. Besides, you were going to get credit for time worked + k-time. Whiner.
At this rate, they’ll bring back “company towns,” and workers will have to pay for the privilege of employment.
I seem to remember a DSS head being fired last time there were emergency food stamp problems. Wonder if that will happen again.
We were assigned to “volunteer” to work these sites. No show-no job.
Was wondering what would happened if there weren’t enough “volunteers.” “Volunteer or else” for some people.
Jindal has gutted the public work force. Not a lot of people left to handle emergency situations like this. No wonder it doesn’t go smoothly. Heard they had to resort to having highly paid, specialized workers stand around and give directions at food stamp application centers. Not a very sensible use of state resources. It’s classic. Ideologs gutting government offices and programs and then complaining that it’s proof government doesn’t work.
Doubt they’ll learn soon enough for many that choices have consequences.
The State employees of SOME agencies are expected to leave their families and homes behind to man Special Needs Shelters, such as the Heyman center in Lafayette and other places. It is mandatory. You have no choice. You can write a letter, begging to be excused because you have sick family members to take care of, or you have a condition that may be unsafe for you to be there, but you better beg good! Piyush Jindal could care less about healthcare, when part of his campaign “plug” was his son born with a heart condition. Like he didn’t have the money for his son to get the best care in the world. How many years has it been since the state employees had a raise??? and don’t use that line “I pay your salary!!” What? are you dumb enough to believe that state employees don’t pay taxes? Don’t we contribute to paying our own salary with our taxes, too? He is never around anyway. thank God for term limits.
