“I am writing as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, along with several of my fellow House Members, to personally ask for your timely assistance in a very important matter.
“…It is our profound hope that you will be able to take a few minutes from your busy schedule to review this matter and contact us at your earliest possible convenience. The taxpayers of Louisiana anxiously await your timely reply.”
The first and last paragraphs of one of the most pathetic letters ever from 11 Republican members of the House Ways and Means Committee seeking, of all things, guidance from Grover Norquist on Louisiana legislative matters.

Norquist should be arrested and charged with treason. He has no official capacity in this state nor any other that I am aware of. Who does he think he is? I truly believe he has a hidden agenda, and he is trying to destroy our country from within!
Norquist takes the easy way out. I’m frankly surprised he even answered, but at least we see where he stands. Regardless of how you view the letter to which he is responding, it is correct in its point that SAVE is not only stupid, but dangerous, and Norquist punts:

Now what are you going to do, governor? Legislators?
Stephen can you explain how it is “dangerous” ? From what standpoint?
Because, as the authors assert, enacting it it opens the door for doing absolutely stupid things like this as a matter of routine in the future using its enactment as a precedent for doing so. .
Okie-doke. Wasn’t sure if you meant dangerous as in raising revenue in general or what. Thanks!
Also, note Stephanie Grace’s take on it for her column tomorrow:

Norquist doesn’t have to reply because he is getting what he wants from the Louisiana legislature: zero revenue growth, legislative adherence and decreased taxes for businesses by requiring a dollar for dollar increase in tax credits for every dollar increase in revenue. So why say anything, he’s getting what he wants. Louisiana’s pathetic legislators are simply following step for step with Jindal, Norquist and the ATR’s legislative requirement. Unlike Bobby Jindal, Norquist knows when he is winning the race and when to keep his mouth shut.
