“What about all the other troopers who retired under the old system? If Edmonson and the Houma guy are the only ones left on the payroll, what about the ones who already retired? Shouldn’t they now sue for equal treatment? I wonder what that would cost? A lot more than the minimum of $300,000 this bill will cost.”
—State retiree who possesses considerable knowledge of state fiscal matters, commenting on the amendment to Senate Bill 294 that gives State Police Commander Mike Edmonson an extra $30,000 in addition to his earned $134,000 retirement.

and is it not more than just the troopers??? would this not apply to other “rank and file” state employees if the troopers system had been “moved” to that system? would not anyone who went through DROP now be looking to see if they might not have been better off not doing it in which case they might decide to sue in order to reverse that decision?
Absolutely spot on. I retired 2 years ago. Well prior to that time I had elected not to participate in the DROP program; I am more convinced than ever that it was a wise decision–at least it has proved so. Had I joined, my monthly benefit would not have reflected a promotion and pay raises I received after my eligibility date. And, frankly, I did not trust our state government sufficiently to believe my DROP money would be protected. All one has to do is consider what Booby Jihad has done to Group Benefits funding.
Is it possible to see if in some other bill a last minute amendment was added giving Rodney Alexander the necessary time-in-grade to qualify for the HUGE increase in State retirement benefits we all know he was in line to receive IF only he stayed in his job as State Veterans Affairs Secretary? Knowing how self serving Rodney is, surely he didn’t just walk away from his obscene retirement benefit increase. And as Rodney toted Jindal’s water, he would be in line for Jindal’s largess at taxpayer’s expense.
