“The website we inherited was a mess. We cleaned it up.”
—State Education Superintendent John White, in explaining that the Department of Education’s website was changed as a result of complaints “from parents and teachers.”
“…the Department is not in possession of any public records responsive to your request.”
—Department of Education response to request from LouisianaVoice for copies of complaints “from parents and teachers” about the former DOE website design.
The website was just fine. They probably didn’t like the comments and complaints and then started a new privatized “lite” dumbed down site at 5 times the cost.
just another l’il ol’ White lie…
All of the following occurred the same week in March 2012:
1) Phase I of LEAP Testing began in LA public schools
2) The LA Legislature began it’s assault on public education with HB 974 & HB976
3) Over 20 years of School Improvement data showing significant growth in every school district across the state from the start of reforms in 1989 disappeared from the DOE website.
Jindal had to remove the data or someone might have figured out that he simply started calling the “C” students scoring at the “Basic” level (our target for 22 years) as failures. When you suddenly label the largest portion of a population distribution (i.e., the “average” group) as failing instead of passing.
You can still find snippets of this info online by googling press releases from Cecil Picard, Paul Pastorek, and Leslie Jacobs. The truth will out!!
