“Tell me who would be better qualified to do what I am doing. I have 24 years of experience working with the legislature. I don’t see this is as ‘Good Old Boy.’ I feel that I am just more qualified than most people would be to do this job.”
–Former State Rep. Noble Ellington of Winnsboro, justifying his appointment to a $150,000 per year position as second in command at the Louisiana Department of Insurance despite his having virtually no background in the insurance industry (other than serving on the House Insurance Committee).

I have 32 years of civil service experience and know that I am more qualified than people that my agency has hired. However, they still brought people in off the street and ranked them higher than they did me. To put the icing on the cake, I have to train them and I don’t make $150,000 either.
State legislators rarely know much of anything about the real workings of the different departments or programs that the state offers. This seems especially true when it comes to health care and Medicaid. Noble Ellington is full of excrement! And he has nerve too. What a jackass. He opened his mouth and proved what we only previously thought of him.
And don’t forget he is the former national chairman of ALEC.
When interviewed last July on NPR regarding a scathing series of articles about ALEC in THE NATION, Ellington was asked the extent to which he represented his own constituents when ALEC-drafted legislation was being accepted for introduction. He replied:
“I work for the taxpaying public, so don’t assume that they’re not [at the table] because they are. And we represent the public and we are the ones who decide. So the taxpaying public is represented there at the table because I’m there.”
To see how they present themselves, go to ALEC’s website. Start with their private enterprise board here:

Don’t you imagine these folks have the best interests of the average citizen at heart?

As the number 2 man at the Department of Insurance, I’m sure Ellington’s heart will be with us (his new statewide constituents) rather than our insurers.
