A sharp-eyed reader has reminded me of a LouisianaVoice post of three years and one month ago, on Oct. 1, 2023, in which it was noted that two members of the Louisiana congressional delegation voted to deprive about 2 million active-duty members of our armed forces their paychecks and to halt certain law enforcement activity altogether.
That was the occasion in which four members voted in favor of the last-minute bill to avert a government shutdown—but two didn’t.
Even Julia Letlow and Steve Scalise voted in favor of the bill, along with Garret Graves and Troy Carter but Speaker Mike Johnson and law and order bigot Clay Higgins voted no.
We should not need to be reminded that a lot of military personnel live in Johnson’s 4th District (Barksdale AFB and Ft. Polk) and Higgins is a former law enforcement communications officer who once boasted incorrectly—a-la Donald Trump—of the “thousands of arrests” he’d made. With that in mind, it’s a little puzzling why they would vote for a shutdown that could inflict serious economic harm on military personnel and law enforcement officers.
This was less than four weeks before Johnson was elected Speaker of the House and despite the passage of temporary funding until Nov. 17—despite the votes of Johnson and Higgins—there remained the possibility of a full shutdown which would have seen mail delivery come to a screeching halt, a slowdown in Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid complaint resolutions, cessation of SNAP meals for women, infants and children, a run on food pantries and food banks as federal employees would have found themselves without paychecks.
So, as you go to the polls Tuesday, keep in mind that these two court jesters do not care for their constituents. They only concern is keeping one other bloated, orange-tinted clown happy.
And lest one mistakenly get the impression I was heaping praise on Letlow, here is a reminder for you:
Letlow said she would have joined the majority of Republican representatives in OBJECTING TO THE RESULTS of the 2020 presidential election in Congress had she been in office at the time.
And let’s not forget one other little factoid about Letlow, who INVESTED IN META STOCK, according to the Louisiana Illuminator, after signing a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) with a Meta shell company that provided her with insider information about a $50 billion data center project in Richland Parish.
So, basically, it’s going to come down to you voting for those who put their self-interests first or who will actually represent their constituents if elected. It’s a simple choice, folks—really simple.

And it can really happen, even here in “ruby red” Louisiana, because there are about twice as many of us as there are of them!
What a SAD human being you must be…please let JESUS into your Life…He can make all thing New!!
Bubba, if you think for one nanosecond that Mike Johnson in any way, shape or form, acts like Jesus, you’re as disillusional and dysfunctional as he is. If you can support a serial rapist, a con man, an adulterer, a bigot and a liar like Trump, then you’re about as far removed from the true spirit of Christianity as one can possibly get.
And as for being happy, I earnestly always try to make someone’s day a little brighter–especially service workers like the ones who serve our meals and deliver our packages. You’d be surprised how many “Christians” verbally abuse these people.
