It is a true shame we have come to this. The two party system worked pretty well, though partisanship grew, up until around 2015. Now, it simply allows the predominate party to rule. I do not plan to necessarily vote against all Republican candidates. Some 12% of Republicans in Congress do not vote in lock step with the current executive regime and should be given consideration. Enablers of what is currently happening are very easy to identify and should, absolutely, be voted out. For example, DJT has now banned members of the media who do not hold back stories that are critical of his actions. Members of Congress must be held accountable for allowing this to happen since we can do nothing to influence the Supreme Court. Freedom of speech and of the press are being surrendered daily. If we are not careful we will lose them AND the ability to do the only thing we can – vote. It’s time for us to not only be awake to what is happening, but to vote every chance we have.
As if there were not enough reasons to vote out Trump, and his enablers, allow me to remind you that he instigated an insurrection on January 6, 2021. Multiple participants were convicted of sedition. And he pardoned ALL of them!
We expect that he will do everything he can to interfere with free and fair elections on November 3. He has already lied several weeks ago that there had been massive foreign interference in prior elections. This on top of his lies about massive voting by non-citizens and recently encouraging his supporters to “cheat like hell”. I expect him to allege that there is a national emergency, based on all these lies, not facts. Then he might invoke the Insurrection Act, or he may just send ICE agents, who are like a private army loyal only to him, to intimidate legal voters at voting locations.
Indivisible, and other groups who have supported the No Kings resistance demonstrations, recommend that you vote early. In Louisiana, you can mail your ballot back very early, and know that it got there, because the Secretary of State will send you a text to acknowledge that they received it. There are also some places where you can drop them off to avoid any reliance on the post office. Finally, early in person voting starts on October 20, Tuesday, and runs for seven days excluding Sunday.
I also believe we have a unique opportunity to win here in Louisiana. 1) A lot of us are upset at high gas prices, a new never ending war with Iran, all the Project 2025 cuts, and other Trump 2.0 broken promises. 2) Louisiana is also a low voter turnout state as illustrated by our Governor being elected by only 18% of the registered voters. 3) Louisiana registered voters are roughly a third Democrat, a third No Party, and a third Republican. That means there are almost twice as many non-Republicans as there are Republicans.
If you don’t bother to vote because everyone knows that we are such a red state that we haven’t got any chance to win, now is the time to prove them wrong. If we present the three facts above to as many people as we can, and stress the importance of all of us voting for change, WE WILL WIN!!!
I’ve said all this before but it’s worth repeating. There is no “GOP,” no “Republican” party, no “conservative” movement. There is only MAGA fascism and it can’t be hidden behind hijacked labels. Anyone who calls themself a “Republican” or votes for “Republican” candidates in 2026 is a fascist. Period. Finis. End of story. And one thing we know for a certainty about MAGA fascists is they do not respect voting outcomes in which they lose. We have to vote because we need the moral high ground of having voted MAGA out. But voting won’t rid us of MAGA fascism. The midterms will be just the first step in reclaiming our nation from the MAGA fascists. There will still be a lot of nasty work left to do after the voting.
LouisianaVoice runs on independence, not advertising. No subscription fees — just the stories Louisiana politicians don't want told. If that's worth something to you, we'd appreciate your support.
I will be doing the same, for the same reasons!!!! Thank you, Tom!!
