Let’s review. It’s gone from “The files are on my desk” to “the files don’t exist” to “Fake news” to “I broke it off with Jeffrey after he stole my girl from Mar-a-Lago” to “Democratic hoax cooked up by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama” to “working undercover for the FBI to expose Epstein.”

There are a couple of dynamics at work. First Trump is clearly obsessed with making the Epstein files go away forever. He ordered Bondi and Patel to drop the investigation and release of any more material, trashed his own supporters, and has told multiple lies about the Epstein files. The current lie is that Democrats didn’t care about Epstein before now, so their pretending to care now is all a hoax designed to embarrass Trump and therefore the entire thing can be ignored and dismissed. The second dynamic at play is the willful ignorance of MAGA fascists who will believe literally anything under the sun EXCEPT that Trump is implicated in Epstein’s crimes by his long public bromance with Jeff. MAGA fascists believe the opposite is true – that Trump is the guy who will expose all the elitist liberal pedophiles the world over. Q told them that for years so it must be true. MAGA fascists believe only liberals are pedophiles and all pedophiles are liberals. They would be content with Trump’s lies and the names of a few Democrats but are confused as hell by Trump’s refusal to give that to them. So we have a guilty and desperate liar in Trump who wants it all to go away, MAGA cowards in Congress trying to protect Trump, and millions of stupid MAGA fascists who spent years believing in the anonymous Q and want Trump to expose it all. There is no way on earth any of this is going to make sense to a rational person. But MAGA isn’t rational. MAGA lives in an alternate reality where everything happens in a void, unrelated and unconnected to what came before or what comes after, which eliminates the need for evidence to tie things together or consequences for one’s actions. Therefore in MAGA world all things can be true at the same time. So Trump is a savior and liberals are pedophiles. MAGA fascists just need a narrative that gets them there.
