Miss me yet?
(I too, wanted absolute power… but at least I was inept)
More headlines that are relevant to the planned takeover of all phases of state government by Jeff Landry who, I have already said more than once, will have us longing for the days of Jindal before he is finished wreaking his carnage:
Child labor laws are under attack in states across the country
States relax child labor laws amid tight labor market: ‘Benefits to kids’
States are weakening child labor laws, 8 decades after the feds took kids out of the workforce
Child labor remains a key state legislative issue in 2024
Some lawmakers propose loosening child labor laws to fill worker shortage
America is divided over major efforts to rewrite child labor laws
States Are Loosening Restrictions on Child Labor
Republicans continue effort to erode US child labor rules despite teen deaths
Illegal child labor is on the rise in a tight job market
So, how are these developments in other states relevant to Louisiana? Because of this headline in today’s Baton Rouge Advocate:
Bill could take lunch break off the menu for young workers in Louisiana
Wait. What?
Yes, you read it correctly. A bill by a clown in my parish, Rep. Roger Wilder, actually wants to REPEAL requirements that teenage workers be given a lunch break. Wilder’s logic? Because “children want to work without having to take lunch breaks.”

State Rep. Roger Wilder (R-Denham Springs)
That off-the-wall reasoning begs the question of just how many “children” he polled in coming to this asinine conclusion?
The answer is, of course, zero. There was no poll conducted for him to arrive at this knee-jerk opinion. He is simply taking his marching orders from the Republican playbook as passed down by Gov. Jeff Landry.
Wild man Wilder’s bill has already attracted national attention with this story:
What the HELL is Going On in Louisiana?
And this one from MSNBC:
Louisiana Republicans vote to end lunch breaks for child workersttps
His “children want to work…” is eerily reminiscent of the utterances of the Great Orange One, who loves to say things like, “people tell me…,” “you wouldn’t believe…,” “I hire only the best people” and “I’ll be working; I won’t have time for golf.”
One of the above headlines is particularly revealing:
Some lawmakers propose loosening child labor laws to fill worker shortage
Worker shortage? I wonder why? Could it be because Republican lawmakers are so damned reluctant to pay employees a living wage? When was the last adjustment to the minimum wage? Why, I do declare, it was in 2009 when it was bumped up from $6.55 an hour to a whopping $7.25 where it has remained now for 15 years.
But here’s an interesting fact that should (but probably won’t) jolt you out of your complacent comfort zone:
Since 1965 the wage DISPARITY between typical workers and CEOs has increased from 21:1 to today’s astronomical level of 400:1.
But yet, we are inundated with these headlines from red states:
State Cuts Continue to Unravel Basic Support for Unemployed Workers
States cutting unemployment benefits didn’t get people back to work, study finds
Cutting unemployment insurance benefits did not boost job growth
Cutoff of Jobless Benefits Is Found to Get Few Back to Work
States That Cut Unemployment Benefits Saw Limited Impact on Job Growth
So, we have seemingly coordinated efforts to loosen child labor laws and to TIGHTEN UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS in an effort to get folks back to work.
I seem to recall there was no real labor shortage as long as we had migrant farm workers to pick the oranges, strawberries, apples and vegetables that the corporate farmers plant and sell to feed America’s 300 million citizens. But then the Republicans, thanks to the same Great Orange One, grabbed onto the illegal immigration issue that Republican governors obligingly picked up on as a hot button issue.
I’m not saying we don’t have an immigration problem; we do. But Republicans are capitalizing on the issue to harvest votes like immigrants harvested fruits and vegetables in Florida, Texas and California. So, the obvious solution is to get more work out of teenagers and to cut the benefits of the unemployed.
At the risk of being too redundant, I’ll repeat what I said in the POST below this one:
These people are not our friends.
And neither are these:

I too was amazed and horrified by that headline. The party that is so bent on protecting our children from anything that might enlighten or endanger them now wants to deprive them of lunches. Wow!
And of course, we are paying them pennies to start with. So yeah, let’s try to figure out why young people are so eager to leave Louisiana.
Young people?! If this fool passes a constitutional convention in 2 weeks, well I live 20 minutes from the Texas border and I’ll go from one of the highest state income taxes to no state income taxes. If this continues we are all fools for staying. Jinghal was a joke. This cat makes the orange one look tame!
“Republicans” resort to far-right conservatism when they can’t get their culture war fix.
Who knew the cruelty and corruption would get as bad as it is turning out this session?! There will be serious further deterioration in quality of life down the road as a result of many laws that will be passed in 2024.
Democrat politicians didn’t receive PPP money because they don’t produce anything. I guess peddling influence didn’t qualify for a loan or the forgiveness? The CEO disparity is evil and regular Americans are working harder for less. Let’s not pretend either side cares. The open border displaces low skilled and blue collar workers. Biden is too senile to affect change but his handlers know exactly what they are doing.
There is a silver lining. Illegals are largely Catholic, hard working and come from authoritarian or broken governments. They are ripe for Republican plucking.
Besides your usual boilerplate talking points, you probably meant “effect change” instead of “affect,” since effect is the verb (proper) spelling that you were striving for and not the noun.
I’d go after syntax and spelling errors if your points were unassailable.
I figured this past fall’s elections would prompt you out of “retirement”. I wasn’t disappointed 🙂
First off I want to make clear that I am not a jackass, as in a democrat. The following statements are my opinion & nothing more. Rep. Wilder should get his head out of his butt & learn to operate on his own & not follow some puppet master’s playbook. Landry alledgley seems to be nothing more that a want-to-be dictator (like Desantis) & they apparntly will stop at nothing to get their way. So it seems that rep. Wilder is ok with his grandchildren or his kids (if still in their 16-17 years) told to just shut up & work, that they don’t need to eat or maybe get a bathroom break & let me guess that he might also think that they dont deserve to have a drink (water, etc.) If that’s the case then no one (including the teens) should be alledgly spending their hard earn money on overpriced coffee or smoothies. I do agree in part to the unemployment reduction part. Maybe rep. Wilder will come up with some good things on his own in the future & not just follow along with others whims. time will tell.
Desantis the “dictator” has been the leader of one of the fastest growing states for the entirety of his tenure. Their growth has increased as politics and Florida have lurched rightward. Our sprint to the right will reverse the population losses we’ve experienced in the past. Democrats in Louisiana will be outnumbered by albino alligators in the years to come. We will become a destination state for Americans fleeing lefty looney tyrants, like Hochul and Nuissance.
This is a total LIE. I’m tired of the Left Liberal morons punks spreading Lies about true American Patriots who Love America and are making every effort to protect the future of our country.
The writer of this article is a moron.Biden and the commies are destroying our country. Keep being oblivious to the real problems like financial aid to fight wars for others .maxist nations. ILLEGALS that don’t have to suffer their for their crimes and inflation that is crippling The country. Or you can just bleep wining about just working through lunch ( and getting paid)in the last 3 months very few people are even getting jobs, and most of them are only part time.
Getting paid? I believe workers are paid for hours working. Eight to five is nine hours, not eight. the lunch hour is the worker’s own time and he is not paid for that hour. And even part-timers get hungry now and then. Which illegals don’t suffer for their crimes? Please be specific. Inflation? That’s an economic problem afflicting the entire civilized world, not just the US. So, is Biden or the Democratic party responsible for inflationion in Turkey? And “whining” is spelled with an “h.” Wow, those Biden “commies!” It looks to me as though it’s the Republicans who are playing into Putin’s hands. You obviously want the bankers and pharmaceutical companies, whose CEOs seem to not have to suffer for the crimes and inflation we’re going through to skate. Look at who is supporting the Republicans: it’s big oil, big pharma, banks, hedge funds…in short, billionaires. Yes, some are supporting Democrats as well, but the bulk of the money flowing into campaigns from big business goes to Republicans who, by the way, had a big majority during Trump’s four years but somehow couldn’t close the border, couldn’t build “the wall,” couldn’t (wouldn’t) enact campaign reform, couldn’t abolish Obamacare (thank goodness), who disrespect women and minorities, and who now refuse to aid a country under invasion by those “commie” Russians. Your twisted take on politics and the so-called Christian Golden Rule would be amusing if not so tragic. But at least you exposed yourself to rejecting all the teachings of Christianity. If, however, you insist that you’re a Christian, then you’re only a hypocrite.
Don’t come to Louisiana!!!! Better off going to another state.
Your comment about not coming here #liberals. Now it’s a smart post.
what’s wrong with these republicans in Louisiana? STUPID!😡
Where are the “smart” democrats? California? NY? Their constituents are fleeing to red states. I can’t think of a current blue state that isn’t atrophying. Do you know why Repubs in LA are going so hard? We want dems to move to their lefty, looney nirvanas. We pray for a red/blue divide and Louisiana is the test pilot for commie eviction.
Gotta love it when anyone with any philosophical difference is automatically a “commie,” especially when they can’t even articulate the difference between capitalist, socialist and communist. Just call them a “commie,” that’ll work. Oh, and the only ones I see sucking up to Putin these days are the Republicans.
