In John Neely Kennedy’s latest TV ad, he proudly, if somewhat over-dramatically, boasts that he “stood up to Chia’-na,” eerily pronouncing the country’s name like another buffoon.
We’re not entirely clear on just how he stood up to the country that now owns much of our own country’s debt (north of $1 trillion) or which accounts for huge chunks of sales for companies like Apple, Intel, Boeing, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks, Nike, Abbott Laboratories, and a dozen or so more.
But those claims notwithstanding, we have yet to hear a plausible explanation from Louisiana’s junior senator of why he traveled to RUSSIA with a group of other Republican lawmakers over the July 4, 2018, holiday. Oh, he says he told Russian officials to “stop screwing with our election,” but we have only his word for that. And it remains unclear why the seven senators and one House member needed to travel there to deliver the message.
He claims that he passed more legislation than any other freshman Louisiana senator. But again, we have only his dubious word for that assertion. We do know, however that he was “among the Republican legislators who participated in the months-long, multifarious attempted coup following the 2020 presidential election,” according to GovTrack.us an online service designed to make Congress more open and accessible to Americans.
But to be fair, we did find a couple of bills that he actively pushed (others were simply amended or incorporated into other bills). He authored and passed the National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act of 2019 and the Rural Business Investment Companies Advisers Relief Act
Another that he SPONSORED called for the Department of Veterans Affairs to have physical locations for the disposal of controlled substances medications – appropriately called the DUMP Opioids Act. (It’s somehow difficult to fathom how it took an act of Congress to get the VA to provide a disposal system for opioids.)
Another simply AMENDED California into the Nutria Eradication and Control Act of 2003.
Leave it to a Louisiana senator to attack the nutria problem head-on.
Don’t know how he managed to avoid those controversial bills being filibustered to death.
His latest ad also tells us that he “worked my butt off” en route to being NAMED among the “top 10 most effective Senate Republicans.”
Which, we must admit, tells us all we need to know about the Republican Party as a group and John N. Kennedy as an individual.
I sent Senator Kennedy a letter regarding that the increase in social security and the increase in the cost of medicare also went up and I ended up with an $18.00 loss in my social security. I explained that I was a veteran and living on a fixed income an a $18.00 dollar loss was pretty big for me.
I did not receive an acknowledgement of the letter from Senator Kennedy. Some of his votes were not in the best interest of veterans.
Then I got a letter asking for a donation. I returned the letter with no donation. He can send me a letter asking me for money but not the courtesy of responding to my letter.
Therefore he lost my vote.
All Luke Mixon needs to do is “show” all the things that John Kennedy did to thwart our democracy since Mr. Kennedy is big into show and tell. That should sink his boat!
Great post. I, too, e-mailed Kennedy about his Russia trip and never received an answer either. His “cornpon” act is sickening. I worked in state government for 40+ years and remember when Kennedy was a Democrat until he drank the Kool-aid.
Did any of the bills of which he claims “ownership” bear his name as the author? He continues to try to pull the wool over the eyes of LA residents while doing nothing for us. He votes against infrastructure bills to help improve our terrible roads and bridges when that is so desperately needed state -wide.
He will not get our family’s vote this year
I was thrilled when I saw Luke’s TV commercial on-air. I met him a couple of times early on in the campaign, and feel he is sincere about his desire to serve.
Kennedy’s TV ads are very revealing. White columns, oak trees tell viewers that he represents the way things used to be, before we all got “woke.” That’s an image Louisiana has to shake in order to move forward.
Sure, a lot of my friends are voting for Luke Mixon. So are a lot of people I don’t know.
Well spotted. I hadn’t consciously noticed that about the background imagery that but you’re right. The white conservatives especially love the big live oaks and pastoral scenery- pretty much the “plantation look.” In other words the good ol’ days. Ugh.
Ugh indeed!
Attended college with Luke’s daughter. A wholesome guy who is not having the corrupt Louisiana system and realizes that this state is headed for a horrible place. If he’s elected, he may be the only adult in the room with the bafoons running for governor.
Kennedy’s one big accomlishment, the NFIP Extension Act, is Obamacare for property owners. Pass the weed killer.
Top Gun Luke Mixon will never embarass our Democracy. Our Republican delegation via CPAC, is using Russian propaganda, to convince the Trumpites that somehow it is the Democrats/ Biden spending too much money fulfilling our committments to NATO. What the F**k!! Just learned the CPAC did delete part of the Russian misinfomation. I am a retired miiitary officer and pilot (not military aviator). Luke represents this: Everything I was taught at home, church (s) and school(s) is valid. Kennedy and the Repugs NO. Keep learning and keep loving, go Top Gunn ron thompson
