Absolutely! I encourage it!
Sweeeet.
Dang. Wish I’d thought of that!
Dear Sir,
As you were promoting “donations” to Republican members of Congress, I thought my own “donation” may be of some value to those on the Democratic side of the aisle. On ABC News this very morning, the following Democratic “donation” became evident…
US inflation hit a new 40-year high last month of 8.6%
46 minutes ago
“The costs of gas, food and other necessities jumped in May, raising inflation to a new four-decade high and giving American households no respite from rising costs.
Consumer prices surged 8.6% last month from 12 months earlier, faster than April’s year-over-year surge of 8.3%, the Labor Department said Friday.
On a month-to-month basis, prices jumped 1% from April to May, a steep rise from the 0.3% increase from March to April. Much higher gas prices were to blame for most of that increase.
America’s rampant inflation is imposing severe pressures on families, forcing them to pay much more for food , gas and rent and reducing their ability to afford discretionary items, from haircuts to electronics. Lower-income and Black and Hispanic Americans, in particular, are struggling because, on average, a larger proportion of their income is consumed by necessities.
At the same time, inflation has shown some signs of moderating, and economists expect it to decline this year, though not by very much. Some analysts have forecast that the inflation gauge the government reported Friday — the consumer price index — may drop below 7% by year’s end. In March, the year-over-year CPI reached 8.5%, the highest such rate since 1982.
High inflation has also forced the Federal Reserve into what will likely be the fastest series of interest rate hikes in three decades. By raising borrowing costs aggressively, the Fed hopes to cool spending and growth enough to curb inflation without tipping the economy into a recession. For the central bank, it will be a difficult balancing act.
Surveys show that Americans see high inflation as the nation’s top problem, and most disapprove of President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy. Congressional Republicans are hammering Democrats on the issue in the run-up to midterm elections this fall.”
Good day to you sir. The latest polls have Joe Biden as low as 33% approval ( Quinnipiac ) and only as high as 39% ( Harris ) utilizing the Democrats preferred pollsters…with the combined parties skewering Biden with a 57% negative overall rating. This administration is firmly in the ditch…and with no tow rope to pull them out. Will the President ever take responsibility for anything?
God help us all…
What’s going on???
Just showing our support for Kennedy et al the same way they show their support for sane laws to limit access to AR-15 baby killers.
It’s called donating “thoughts and prayers” (or TAPs), which is their automatic response every time there’s a mass shooting: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims” or some similar tripe.
A Sample of World Inflation rates April 2021 vs. April 2022:
17.8% Russia
12.1% Brazil
9% UK
8.3% US
7.5% India
5.9% South Africa
Gasoline is higher per gallon in 90 other countries in the U. S. Among the highest:
$11.21 Hong Kong
$10.82 Norway
$10.32 Denmark
$10.12 Finland
So, yes, we are experiencing high inflation, but so are countries worldwide.
The main reason is the most basic of economic principles Supply v. Demand.
If you believe consumption has slowed down here, go to your closest Costco or Sam’s Club. They are more crowded than ever. Are people panic buying? I don’t know, but I do know if consumption slows and supply increases, inflation will decrease.
In addition to COVID and other causes of the supply shortage, we, and the rest of the world have over the last decade, allowed huge conglomerate monopolies to control whole sectors of the economy, eliminating competition. So now, when the company controlling the bulk of our baby formula has a problem, so do we.
Sure, we need to do some monopoly busting, but Biden did not create this situation. Yes, the Biden administration is in the ditch favorability-wise – mostly because rightwing media of all kinds have vilified him and the consumers of their propaganda have swallowed it whole. Perception is not necessarily reality, but it drives everything and, in this case, it is fanning the flames of civil war by demonizing Biden and Democrats.
It all comes down to what you read and what you believe. Some of the articles I read cite the same worldwide numbers as Stephen cites above. Other articles indicate that you can’t point to one factor or one administration for the problem. It’s a combination of many factors.
But Stephen and Clifford 55, how you going to explain that to Outlaw 53 who’s afflicted with tunnel vision like all the other Republican supporters. They don’t want to hear facts or figures or statistics. Their mind are made up, so don’t confuse them with logic. It’s like trying to drive a wet noodle into a brick wall.
Great point.
Note today’s Greater Baton Rouge Business Report poll results below. Too many people refuse to even look at reality. The 71% who didn’t even watch last night are free to rely on Fox News, each other, and their favorite social media for information about the investigation and also free from considering actual facts about what took place January 6, 2021. It’s impossible to deal with people so freely willing to deny reality. If our country goes down they will have themselves to thank and many of them will be happy – for an hour or 2 until the real world begins to intrude.
Did you watch the Jan. 6 committee hearing last night?
No 71.32% (587 votes)
Yes 28.68% (236 votes)
Total Votes: 823
On his own personal social media platform, Truth Social, DJT is happy to do his usual ranting, including this one:
“I NEVER said, or even thought of saying, ‘Hang Mike Pence.’ This is either a made up story by somebody looking to become a star, or FAKE NEWS!”
Anyone who actually watched the hearing will know he was never accused of having said that. However, the following quote was attributed to him, based on recorded proof: “Maybe our supporters have the right idea.’ Mike Pence ‘deserves it,’ ”
The difference is not even that subtle, but his supporters will never realize it because they choose to believe whatever they choose to believe and they can rely on their favorite sources to reinforce it.
Delusion is believing something contrary to fact.
…often pursuant to brainwashing.
I’m sorry but a sitting president attempting to topple democracy, shred the Constitution, refuse the peaceful transfer of power, perpetrate a fraud against the American people, and stage a coup to retain power is so far beyond inflation as an immediate danger to the country that no credible person would attempt to argue otherwise. The attempt alone is overwhelming evidence of moral, ethical, ideological, and intellectual bankruptcy.
