The vote was close, much closer than it should have been, but Marjorie Taylor Greene has been STRIPPED of her committee assignments by the US House of Representatives.
It was a vote strictly along party lines, 230 Democrats voted to remove her from the committees on Education and Labor and on the Budget and 199 Repugnantcans voted to forgive and forget that this creature stands with QAnon, one of the most bizarre conspiracy perpetuating outfits ever to come along in this country, and the anarchists who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Two did not cast votes.
The 11 GOP members who voted to remove Taylor Greene included Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (Fla.), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Carlos Giménez (Fla.), Chris Jacobs (N.Y.), John Katko (N.Y.), Young Kim (Calif.), Adam Kinzinger (Ill.), Nicole Malliotakis (N.Y.), Maria Elvira Salazar (Fla.), Chris Smith (N.J.) and Fred Upton (Mich.).
The Repugnantcans who supported her appeared to forget that this mouth-breathing redneck from Georgia apparently detests everything this country stands for. Why else would she attack the very government which she now represents with a barrage of hate-infested lies? She thinks that there is a concerted effort to silence her. Perhaps she should try her hate speech in some totalitarian state like North Korea, Iran, or Turkey and see how much support she receives.
And among those Louisiana Repugnantcan representatives (and I certainly use that word loosely) who gave her a pass were Steve Scalise (who, if Taylor Greene is to be believed, was most probably never shot on June 14, 2017), Clay Higgins (who Taylor Greene probably thinks is George S. Patton reincarnate), Mike Johnson (the constitutional lawyer who apparently lost his copy of the US Constitution) and Garret Graves (who should certainly know better).
I simply refuse to believe that the typical Louisiana citizen, who these four presume to represent, agrees with the Taylor Green philosophies.
Okay, I know that just yesterday I wrote that maybe it would best for the country in general if we just ignored the certifiable nut case that she is. But now, by this forced vote by the Democrats, Louisiana’s four Repugnantcan House members have publicly cast their lot with the nuttiest of all the fruitcakes in Washington since Donald Trump and family, Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell left town.
And by voting no on the resolution to remove her from her committee assignments, these four have forsaken their oaths of office, turned their backs on any shred of integrity they may have once possessed, and necessarily joined 195 other Repugnantcans in stating for the record that they believe as indisputable facts:
- A plane did not fly into the Pentagon on 9/11.
- 9/11 was a government hoax.
- Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg is a crisis actor.
- Parkland and other school shootings never happened.
- Charlottesville was an inside job.
- Democrats are satanic pedophiles.
- Nancy Pelosi should be executed for treason.
- Jewish space lasers started the California fires last year to clear land for a high-speed railroad.
- Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had been replaced by a body double prior to her actual death.
- Israel was somehow connected to the JFK assassination
- JFK, Jr. is alive and well.
- Robert Mueller was appointed by Trump to investigate Hillary Clinton.
- Lizard people control the world.
- Trump won.
Moreover, they have forever identified themselves as bigoted, anti-Semitic white supremacists.
A friend sent me this tweet that pretty much says it all:
“No matter what you think of this move by the Democrats, Republicans got no one to blame but themselves. It’s THEIR fault this vote took place. THEY should have disciplined her. THEY should have cleaned up their own house. THEY should have done the right thing. But THEY wouldn’t.”
Good to know once and for all where they stand.
There was a time when I could give Graves the benefit of the doubt. He is, after all, the congressman who represents the district where I live.
No more.
By virtue that he could, by his vote today, condone the intolerable utterances of one in an otherwise responsible position as Taylor Greene, he puts himself in the same company with those in Germany who gave Hitler a pass in 1933.
And before you blow your stack at my analogy, understand I have not compared Graves and the other Repugnantcans to Hitler; I’ve compared them to the people of Germany who allowed him to come to power in the first place through their overall discontent and dissatisfaction. The only public official I would compare to Hitler would be Trump because of the manner in which he duped millions of citizens.
Why did I single out Graves? Simple. Scalise and Johnson long ago sold their souls to the radical right wing of the Repugnantcan Party and Higgins is the poster child for arrested mental development that it’s enough that we could expect him to utter a coherent sentence of no more than a half-dozen monosyllabic words.
But I somehow expected better of him because I perceived him to be one with some semblance of responsibility for doing the right thing no matter the consequences.
I was wrong.
Painful for everyone. “The arch of history bends towards justice–But it comes with a mighty struggle. MLK
Joy Reid of MSNBC calls this creature Marjorie Q. Greene. Appropriate. Greene falls back on the typical republican cop out – blame the media. For what, exactly? “Allowing” her to believe preposterous BS? She made a complete fool of herself today when she stated that she had been “allowed” to believe crazy lies. Allowed by who other than herself? Nobody forced her to buy into the insane QAnon rhetoric, especially not “the media.”
If she (and anyone else) is so easily influenced and brainwashed by totally unbelievable conspiracy theories, she has no business being in Congress, a position of trust and leadership. People who can’t think for themselves and are unable to discern the truth from utterly insane lies have no business in elected office. Such people perhaps should have a mental health evaluation if they are trying to influence others to commit acts of violence. Maybe sane people should follow the lead of the Smartmatic/Dominion company, which sued the liars for defamation for billions of dollars. Those who spread wild disinformation, either deliberately or because they were stupid enough to be taken in and “allowed to believe” dangerous lies should be sued for poisoning the public discourse.
After seeing the damage done by lies and liars to our election security, our democratic traditions and our local, state and federal elected officials, perhaps it’s time for state legislatures and Congress to consider making the spread of dangerous lies a criminal offense and “hold people accountable” with prison time and fines. After all, not all speech is protected under the First Amendment.
I totally agree about Graves. He previously kept a pretty low profile as opposed to the rest of the Louisiana disgraceful reps, so I cut him a little slack because he seemed to just stay focused on his district. But no more. I don’t know what happened to him in the last year but he has totally lost his honor. I certainly hope we can come up with some good challengers for all of these guys in the future who have some decency and honor, but I don’t have much confidence they would win.
Graves may have a great smile and often prefers to focus on flood benefits because that’s not controversial, but make no mistake that he’s another hard right winger and UNFAILING trump supporter who I well remember ran a ton of absurd anti-Syrian refugee scare tactic ads to help win his first election.
His office just sent me a lengthy response letter defending his vote to overturn the election. It was full of the same old bs about fighting voter “fraud.” Virtually the entire GOP has truly become a deranged cult.
Is there any chance to redistrict Graves out of office? Some rearrangement of districts 2 and 6?
By it’s very nature the House is full of batshit crazy extremists on ALL sides. Maxine Waters and AOC come immediately to mind. They kinda balance out the other side like this Greene woman and Clay Higgins. Congress can do what it wants internally and votes have consequences come election time for ALL sides. But you should not be surprised when AOC wins re-election from her little District and Clay Higgins wins re-election from his district. The got there because a majority of their respective districts LIKES their politics! Imagine that! But don’t go screaming foul if the Republicans get control next election and vote to take away committee assignments of AOC or Maxine Waters. I disagree with the vote to remove this Green woman simply because it sets a VERY bad precedent. Congress is always and should remain “The people’s house” and the Staid Senate should also remain as it is-a balancing house. I still think our government is pretty good. Now you kids go and play nice.
Really hard to argue your Maxine Waters point.
Oh, I don’t know about that. Perhaps T***pers should simply respond as he did, in his usual adult manner, to her in July 2018. A high class response, for sure:
At a July 2018 rally in Montana, Trump said: “She is a low I.Q. individual, Maxine Waters. I said it the other day. I mean, honestly, she’s somewhere in the mid-60s, I believe that.” And in June 2018, Trump tweeted: “Congresswoman Maxine Waters, an extraordinarily low IQ person, has become, together with Nancy Pelosi, the Face of the Democrat Party. She has just called for harm to supporters, of which there are many, of the Make America Great Again movement. Be careful what you wish for Max!”
But even he, the great intellectual giant, may not realize the depth of his insult since he may never have seen a table like this:
IQ Range (“deviation IQ”) IQ Classification Percent of population
91–110 Average 50.0
80–90 Dull normal 16.1
66–79 Borderline 6.7
65 and below Defective 2.2
This is a typical trumpist GOP false equivalency. I don’t believe Maxine Waters or any other Democrat has advocated killing members of Congress or vigorously supported blatant lies about the election that undermine our democracy and resulted in a seditious insurrection.
As we did in the presidential election (though it did us little good there, thanks to Gravites, Kornponites, Higginsites, etc.), we need to get to the polls and cast our votes against these people every chance we get. We can make a difference in these local and state elections and we need to get off our asses and do so – for every single election from now on – which we should have been doing anyhow. Graves, et al, will pay no attention to us as long as their polls tell them a majority of the voters in their districts support the far right agenda, at best, and unfounded conspiracy theories at worst.
Agreed. Since 1976 when I turned 18 and registered (as a Democrat) to vote, I’ve only missed one local tax election. I think it will take more than making sure WE vote; I think we need to make sure all who are eligible vote. I also want to get more active with and more information about local Democratic committees but getting any information, or response, from the State Democratic Party is impossible. Any help on getting them to respond to emails would be appreciated.
Hello, kittygmartin –
Your complaint about the problem with non-responsiveness by the LA Democratic Party HQ staff resonated with me. Several of my friends and I long had the same experience under the previous administration. For that reason, several of us ran for and were elected to the Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC) in order to make changes to party management to better serve members and work to rebuild the party from the ground up. The party has a new chairwoman, who I believe, sets a tone for better communication with party members and is committed to advancing and building the party.
Several years ago, a group of women wanted to join or form a Democratic women’s group in the capital area. We were told by HQ that none existed. However, I found an existing Baton Rouge group on Facebook and held the HQ staff’s feet to the fire to help me locate the leaders.
I’m not a big Facebook person, but I respect the reach of the of platform and its value in connecting people. Below are the Louisiana Democratic women’s groups that I have found on Facebook. I am a member of the LFDW and the Demo Women of GBR. You can make contact with any of these groups through Facebook.
LA Federation of Democratic Women (LFDW)
Democratic Women of Greater Baton Rouge
Democratic Women of Acadia
Women’s Democratic Club of Northwest Louisiana
Northshore Democratic Women’s Club
As mentioned, I was elected to the DSCC, and look forward to working with you and anyone in Louisiana who wants to become active in the party. You can find a list, with contact information, of all members of the DSCC on the party website, so you can find the woman and man who represent your district. Each state house district is allowed two members on the DSCC, a woman and a man. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you wish.

Graves and my then Congressman Christian Abraham rode with Trump to New Orleans and Graves was so excited Trump got a convicted soldier sentenced thrown out after the soldier was convicted for killing an innocent. Coward Graves bragged he had “sources” and would find other cases to overturn. This dumb loyalty to Trump is very much “it is in Gods hand now” . Cowards always tell lies and cannot accept the truth about themselves. Agree with Mr. Winham and our State Democratic Party is hard at work on the numbers. thanks ron thompson
