Having just watched a pathetic Donald Trump bumble, stumble and mumble his way through his incoherent claims of fraud, my feelings ran the gamut of sadness, pity, and anger.
His display of self-pity was so bad that ABC News actually cut away from his speech (if you could go so far as to call it a speech). CNN, on the other hand, stayed ‘til the bitter end and then ripped him a new one with harsh criticism and fact checks – as he deserved.
On the one hand, he wants to continue the vote-counting in Arizona and Nevada where he trails and on the other, he demands that vote-counting be stopped in states where he leads but is seeing that lead slip away with the tabulation of mail-in and absentee votes. That is a classic display of inconsistency.
As always, when things don’t go his way, it’s someone else’s fault. In this case, it’s poll workers who are trying to steal the election from him – even in states headed by Republican governors.
He gave all the appearances of a petulant child who doesn’t get his way and decides to throw a tantrum. It was a pitiful example of a supposed world leader.
But with all the emotions of outrage, frustration and embarrassment I experienced while watching his performance, it was nothing compared to what we should feel at our own congressional delegation.
Where are Sens. Bill Cassidy and John (Mouth of the South) Kennedy? Kennedy, in particular, so loves a TV camera that it’s a real mystery why he is suddenly MIA.
And what about Reps. Steve Scalise? Lame Duck Abraham? Mike Johnson? Garret Graves? Why don’t they grow spines and come forward and tell Trump to shut up and, for the good of the country, accept the inevitable? (If you think I overlooked Clay Higgins, I didn’t; it’s just that I never expected someone as brain-dead as Trump to be a voice of reason.)
The silence of Louisiana’s congressional delegation is a disgrace. When they should be stepping forward and displaying some semblance of leadership, they are characteristically invertebrate.
For a study in contrast, let’s go to the 2019 Louisiana gubernatorial election. Incumbent John Bel Edwards trailed Eddie Rispone most of the night. Then, when the New Orleans returns started coming in, the trend was reversed and, in the end, Edwards pulled away from Rispone.
Rispone’s reaction to seeing his lead slip away?
Class.
Trump had visited Louisiana on Rispone’s behalf but the stain didn’t rub off on the Republican standard-bearer. When the dust had settled, Rispone offered congratulations to Edwards and gave a gracious concession speech. Game over, no hard feelings.
Trump is incapable of that and because he enjoys a much higher profile, his whining attracts international attention from adversaries and allies alike.
But from this standpoint, Trump’s very public wailing takes a back seat to the shameful silence of Cassidy, Kennedy, Johnson, Scalise, Graves and Abraham.
It’s time for these so-called leaders to grow some cojones and step up to the plate so this country can move on from this wretched chapter in our history. Anything less is simply unacceptable.
To their credit, both NBC and CBS stopped covering the whine fest within moments of ABC.
I wonder if Fox finished covering it. Can you imagine if they cut away too?
And just think, this is only the beginning. Even if Trump loses to Biden, he’ll still be in office, whining, for about 11 more weeks.

It’s almost over folks. The end is in sight. Just think… we’re only days away from a mad flurry of pardons and then a likely attempt to destroy records and evidence. 🙂
Tom…your last statement included the word “unacceptable”. However, apparently and sadly their pitiful performance is very acceptable by the majority of Louisiana voters because they re-elected them for behaving exactly this way and therein lies our problem….or so it seems to me.
You wonder where Cassidy and Kennedy are? And the House Republicans from this “Great State”? They are hiding, scared to death of Donald Trump for some unknown, stupid reason. Do not hold your breath waiting for them to speak out. They followed that rabbit down the hole years ago.
The link below is an article that may shed some light on why members of Congress and many rank and file Americans have bought the BS and followed a delusional sociopath down that rabbit hole.

All of those sycophants got reelected, so apparently most of the people of Louisiana don’t care about their inaction.
Yep. And that’s the real problem that won’t go away by January. Include Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, that reptile Lindsey Graham and others in your statement, and things are even more discouraging. It makes it hard to conclude that he was an aberration and not a symptom of something larger.
Divided Amerika. All those voters must live under a rock not to have noticed 230K deaths, loss of wages, jobs, no Covid relief from Congress but cling to the admiration of Trump by saying he’s doing such a great job but the fake news and Dems hate him and won’t give him an even chance. They truly believe his lies and all he twitters. They swear to it. So disheartening. McConnell has already had his say if Biden is elected. He will torpedo his cabinet choices. Nice.
The United States elected this manifestly unfit mess. “That is the question”
I hope I am not being foolishly optimistic (as a true cynic, that would be a rarity), but I now believe the nightmare will be over no later than January. In the meantime, I wish DJT would make good his threat to move to another country if not re-elected. He would do the country a great service by resigning and doing so immediately. It would be satisfying to prosecute him for any of his many crimes, but revenge is a dish best served cold and we could probably only get him for something like the gov’t got Al Capone after a lengthy and embarrassing process during which he would remain in the limelight. Just get him out of here! If I never gave him another thought, I would die happy.
P. S. As the evangelicals would quote if they were actually religious:
Romans 12:19
King James Version
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
I sincerely hope you are right. But unfortunately the man has 70 million followers and craves the limelight so badly I think we are a long way short of a fatal heart attack from hearing loudly the last of him. He is in a position, as his niece said last night, that he has never been in in his life. He has no way out. He will try, but he is a “loser.” He cannot accept that. He will make yesterday’s comments seem mild before he is done. Fox will be stirring up his supporters and he will be appearing regularly to criticize the new President. The article mentioned by earthmother was a great one and much needed to understand the sickness of the man and the make up of his supporters. God help us.
We We We must feel only slight relief but no compassion for those folks who were so ignorant to vote for Trump and our Repugnant Republican leaders are not the least bit afraid of Trump. Anyone who voted for Trump based upon his lying, ineptness and egomania cannot be educated to overcome their ignorance. Mr. Winham is correct, My reading of Romans 12:19, Get over it, Vengeance won’t work because that makes you one of them, and they could give a shit what you think. ron thompson
I could not agree more with your conclusion and sentiments. Would say it was sad but can not, instead deserved recorded display for our children, grandchildren and historians!
I did read the Raw Story report that Earthmother sited, and it is very hard to believe that so many millions believe a lot of the “crazy” and do not live in reality. I think there has always been those type of people here but they stayed hidden until Trump allowed them to come out. It is truly a sad situation to know that close to one third of the voting population are, in my opinion, insane. Republican and Democrats have never been so divided until Trump. Things used to get done, mostly in a bipartisan way. Cassidy, Kennedy, Scalise, and others have blindly followed Trump for over 4 years and it will not be easy for them now to simply say they “didn’t mean it, nevermind”. Louisiana has been blue before. It is Ruby Red now. But, politics is cyclic, and there will be a day when the tide turns.
I happen to love our president!!! I don’t like what you have to say about him, he has done more fir this country than any other President!! I will never support you ever!!!
Well, you just go ahead with your non-supporting self. You don’t like what I say about him. Does that mean you want to silence me? What happened to your patriotic love of Freedom of Speech? You’re so knowledgeable, answer these questions (without peeking):
1. How many amendments to the Bill of Rights?
2. How many amendments total to the Constitution?
3. How many members of the House of Representatives?
4. How long are their terms?
5. How many Senators?
6. How long are their terms?
7. How many senators are elected in a single election cycle?
8. How many Supreme Court justices are there?
9. How many cabinet members are there?
10. Was Teddy Roosevelt a Republican, Democrat or Bull Moose?
If you can’t answer 7 of those without peeking, you have no right to criticize anyone else who has done his research.
Yep. He has most DEFINITELY done more “fir” this country than ANY other president. He has brought this country way “fir” down, more than ANY president in our history. Thank God, he can’t go any “firther”! We move forward in this country. Not” firther” backwards. Welcome to 2020/21!
DING, DING,DING,DING!!!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LET THE HEALING BEGIN.
Yep… it looks like somebody’s going to need to locate the receipt for her crystal ball because it appears to have failed her.
LOL, Kamarcan. A little gloating? 👍
…just letting her know that she’ll need to hurry if the return window is still open.
