“Could you imagine if I lose? My whole life – what am I going to do? I’m going to say I lost to the worst candidate in the history of politics.” —Donald Trump, speculating on what he might do if he loses the election. [I suppose it’s possible to say that you lost to yourself.]
“Maybe I have to leave the country, I don’t know.” —Further speculation by Trump. [You’ll need to go to a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with the U/S.]
“Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution – Title 18 US Code 1073: Trump suggests he’d leave the country if he loses to Biden.” —Tweet by Frank Figliuzzi.
“He’s so powerful right now. They know that they can’t indict him right now so there is an incentive to build their case and get ready. I think what happens if he loses and leaves office that things will move very quickly.” —CNN legal analyst and former federal prosecutor Jennifer Rodgers, on Trump’s legal vulnerability once he leaves office.
In every regard, his leaving office makes it easier for prosecutors and plaintiffs in civil cases to pursue their cases against him. For example, he is claiming a higher protection from subpoenas in the criminal cases and also in the congressional subpoena cases, [and that] is based largely on the fact that he is President. —Former federal prosecutor in the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office Harry Sandick. [Can you say, “plea bargain”?]
“Hey guys: Trump is inciting violence against a sitting governor. Your silence is complicity. Is this how you want to be remembered?” —Tweet by former Trump White House Communications Director to Republican leadership in Congress.
“Badgering Biden and Harris about “court-packing” is especially galling when you consider Mitch McConnell’s role in how we got to this hyper-partisan moment.” —Tweet by Jonathan Capehart.
NOT A TRUMP QUOTE, but it should be (with apologies to Cavin & Hobbes): “I don’t need to compromise my principles because they don’t have the slightest bearing on what happens to me anyway.”
I could live with him leaving the country immediately and never coming back. That would actually be better than a lengthy and embarrassing prosecution.
Trump’s downfall is due to the fact that he is running against his record. His character. Himself. Clean up Donald J. Swamp.

When can we discuss this “thing” that a sitting president cannot be indicted? What is the background on this? Is it a legal statute or just a DOJ guideline? In the short run, who wants a person that is possibly subject to criminal indictment being president? Doesn’t this show deep problems that will interfere with that person’s abilities to govern? Who gets to decide if this is a legal and valid practice? If Trump had not been “protected” by this, he would have been gone long ago or so it seems….
“The indictment or criminal prosecution of a sitting President would unconstitutionally undermine the capacity of the executive branch to perform its constitutionally assigned functions,” the memo stated.”
Edith, that statement comes from a 1973 DOJ memo. It’s a DOJ policy, not law.
And well it should be changed. It was ridiculous to start with and is not law. It is merely a policy and frankly, should have been disregarded considering all of this president’s criminal acts. You are so right Ms. Herring!
CJG: Thanks for confirming my worst thoughts…this needs to be addressed as soon as Democrats get the majority back!
Also, what’s the difference between an indictment or criminal prosecution and impeachment proceedings? Wouldn’t impeachment proceedings have the same effect?
I believe the one who needs to worry, with the recent emails exposed, would be none other than Joe Biden. Looks like a long laundry list of exploiting his political connection (pretty much like the Clinton’s) for millions of dollars. The difference between the two candidates is Trump may have obtained loans on debatable asset valuation but Joe sold his position/influence, and evidently for many, many years according to his son. Which “crime” is more serious, and which crime can be proved ? Obviously to most of you, anything that Trump does is worse than a President abusing intelligence agencies for political purposes or selling his influence for personal gain. I wonder why FBI sat on Hunter Biden emails for a year ? As bad as Hillary destroying emails that were
subpoenaed by congress Nope, no corruption there.
Do you suppose Joe can stay in hiding for the next two weeks ? Those rallies with 30 people must be so tiresome. He really has a group of motivated voters !
Some of you state there is criminal activity by Trump without any investigation whatsoever, or even any display of facts. You have the man charged, found guilty, and condemned. I just love your sense of justice as well as how you perceive your own candidates innocence in the face of some pretty damning evidence.
Zoe, I just read article about those emails. Two Post employees indicated that the reporter who wrote most of the article, refused to put his byline on the article. Because he had concerns about the credibility of the information. The editors finally convinced one of their political editors to put her name on the article.(The convinced editor was probably glad to do so as she is a staunch trump supporter. ) They also used another reporter’s byline. However, this reporter did not know her byline was used until the article was published. The article also stated that
last month, two Republican-led Senate committees investigating the matter said they had found no evidence of wrongdoing by the former vice president.
Come on, Zoe.
You may want to wait until the authenticity of those emails has been verified before shooting off your mouth. From what I read and hear, there are some very questionable timeline discrepancies about the discovery and reporting of those emails and Rudy’s part in the whole matter. Sounds a lot like some Russians may have planted some disinformation to hurt Biden and you took the bait. Oh well….what can we expect?
Not sure if the image will paste in here or not.

Yeah, well never mind those people at the “rallies” all jammed in together and not many wearing face masks. Oh that’s right, the tRump people made sure to pass around masks to the people in the risers that face the cameras.
So tell me Miss Zoe, healthcare worker, is that a safe thing to have those people crammed shoulder to shoulder in those rallies? (asking for a friend)
…more importantly: the trump campaign makes everyone sign a waiver that relieves trump of any liability when they catch the disease. That really adds some depth to that trump superspreader billboard. Nothing says “I got your back America” like a trump NDA or liability waiver.
trump can’t string five words together without making it clear that someone else really did do his college work for him. The irony of this ignorant fool calling Dr Fauci an idiot while simultaneously featuring him in his campaign ad. That’s like if Kanye West made fun of Dr. Neil deGrasse Tysons work in astrophysics.
I’ll hold the door for him to leave… and he can cancel his twitter account on the way out. Good riddance to bad trash.
