“To hear someone say that John McCain was a loser and they don’t like people who become prisoners, I just knew I was going to have trouble going forward with somebody who held those views.”
—Retired Admiral Steve Abbott, of his decision to sign on as one of more than 200 retired military officers who have endorsed Joe Biden for president.
“We are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. We love our country. Unfortunately, we also fear for it.”
—Letter of endorsement of Joe Biden signed by more than 200 retired generals and admirals, on Thursday.
“I think riding on Air Force Two and doing business is illegal … and probably a felony.”
—Sen. Rand Paul, in saying he refer the Senate Homeland Security and Finance Committee’s report on its investigation of Hunter Biden to the Department of Justice for investigation. [Hmm, you’re probably right, Senator. So, how do you feel about Ivanka’s using Daddy’s name and office to obtain 18 trademarks from the Chinese government for her clothing line? And what’s your take on Jared’s using Daddy-in-law’s office and name to obtain a $600 million loan from the Saudis? Or that Qatar bailout of that 666 Fifth Avenue tower in Manhattan? Or that other $90 million in investments from Saudi Arabia that Jared Kushner somehow forgot to include on his security-clearance application? You gonna be investigating those, as well? Just askin’.]
“Many of my coalminer friends voted for him. They were deceived. Trump had no plan, no concept of how to resurrect the coal industry. My friends were lied to.”
—Pennsylvania coal miner Art Sullivan, on being deceived by candidate Trump’s promise to bring back the coal mining industry in 2016. [Trump Lied? Oh, but he’s done much as president: revealed his tax returns as promised four years ago, presented his plan to replace Obamacare, built that wall at Mexico’s expense, brought back all those manufacturing jobs, and single-handedly “turned the corner” on the coronavirus pandemic. Give that man an A-plus!]
“You’ve got thousands of armed vigilantes on the streets this summer, first around these reopen demands at state capitols. Then after that, many more of these vigilante far right groups, who are declaring themselves as pro-Trump groups, come out to confront and sometimes menace Black Lives Matter protesters and in a couple of cases kill them. You can imagine them showing up at election sites or where votes are being counted in election districts in contested states in Michigan, or Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida or wherever else.”
—University of Oregon political science professor Joe Lowndes, on the potential for violence on election day. [Ah, but don’t you see, only Black Lives Matter or Antifa are capable of committing violence. Trump says so and his unquestioning believers must accept that.]
“Trump says so and his unquestioning believers must accept that.” Speaking of which, here is a good story from yesterday on CNN.

An excellent video.
Yep, that’s why I take such issue with social media. It is truly the “bad guy” here. Social media is the catalyst that led to the “tea party” transforming the GOP in the trump party. And I’ll never forgive them for it.
And, again, I commend The Social Dilemma to any and everybody. A recent article about it: https://www.forbes.com/sites/travisbean/2020/09/24/the-social-dilemma-is-about-to-become-the-first-documentary-on-netflix-to-achieve-this-incredible-milestone/#3362223122f2
I don’t know why I haven’t watched this before now, but I had time this morning and I just finished. I can definitely recommend it as a must see. It is supported by my own observations in the industry, and although I knew much of what was documented… I still learned a good bit about how the algorithms work. I don’t think it will appeal to everyone and the more salient points are probably going to be lost on many. But it is as accurate a portrayal of the effects of SM on humanity that I’ve seen yet. I didn’t really care for the dramatic elements, but that’s just my own personal taste. Thanks for the recommend!
John McCain is a loser. His nicknames are “song bird” and “no name” by those in the military that know. He was no hero and many believe a traitor to our country. You need to start figuring out that Trump doesn’t say things he doesn’t mean.
L, With all due respect to Mr. Aswell, your post should not have seen the light of day – it is pure propaganda and besmirches the name of an American hero. You should be ashamed of yourself. You got one thing right-your last sentence-but it hardly takes Einstein to figure that one out.
…says another loser that should get out of his parents basement and get a damned job. I spent nearly a quarter century on active duty and I know with absolute certainty that none of your (and trumps) ignorant little nicknames apply to how we view Senator McCain in the military.
Senator McCain’s legacy speaks volumes for itself. This troll doesn’t have a legacy and probably tries to reconcile his own failure in life by regurgitating conspiratorial jabs at national heroes and true men of accomplishment. Either that or he’s just doing what he’s paid to do.
Kamarcan, I respect that you served our country and thank you for that. I understand your defense of McCain. I suggest you read this attachment before you condemn other’s opinions (https://www.jacobinmag.com/2018/08/john-mccain-was-not-hero-obituary-war-racism-sexism).
My point is, that you seem to jump on issues without seeing others side of an issue; his legacy is both good and bad. You condemn and judge “L” without any knowledge of him except that you disagree with his opinion, which he voiced. Stephen did as well.”L” has as much right to an opinion as Stephen or you. There is much reason to not honor McCain, but again, he is dead, and R.I.P.
And on your first comment; Obama was the reason for Trump, not Tea Party.
There it is. You are defending a self professed q-anon conspiracy theorist. I was wondering how long it would take. Not to mention that he appears to be an online troll that is using several accounts to promote that trash. If you ever wonder why we react the way we do to you… then you have your answer.
What Q-fool/Luella/L posts are conspiracies and lies. Not calling out conspiracies and lies can legitimize them. You can always count on me to call out illegitimate lies and conspiracies, which is why you and I are at odds so often.
Kam, I did not condemn nor defend and if I quoted a “Q;non, whatever that is, I was merely pointing out that there are divergent opinions on Mr. McCain. I read that link before I posted, but pretty much everything I read was pretty accurate re: McCain’s activities. I do not know “L” if that is your implication, but everyone who disagrees with you is not a “troll”, stupid, nor without merit.
People on this page “react” to me because they do not respect my political position and resent anyone who questions their logic or lack thereof. Fact is, I have noticed most people who post only accept opinions that concur with their opinions, even when contradictory. Examples; Edith disliked Trump because he is an “old white man” but supports Biden, who is older. Tom questions Trump family business dealings but disregards Clinton pay to play as Sec of State, Biden feeding contracts to his brother, extortion of Ukraine over loan guarantees (what Trump was impeached for which he clearly did not do), his son getting lucrative contracts from countries Biden was working with etc.
I simply pointed out that ANY business that a politician (regardless of party) benefits from because of his position, is wrong (especially inside trading). I certainly do not excuse Trump from that opinion. You call a total stranger a “loser”, and “jobless” and imply that you speak for the military, and turn around and imply that I am a “conspiracy” theorist !
And yet, not a single one of them (including you) has defended the Democrat platform, cited a single accomplishment of Joe Biden, who has been in politics nearly 50 years, with nothing to show other than enrichment of him and family. He was worth $30,000 only a few years ago, but now is worth between $9-20 Million, depending on what you read. Maybe that is “Q-non” as well ?
“C’mon man”, I support the conservative position, whomever that may be. I am not and never will support socialist, communist, or extreme liberal positions from abortion to getting in wars where we do not belong (likely Tom, that those generals you cited are in the lobbying business and need to promote war for profit). I do not accept the radical solutions proposed by Bernie Sanders or AOL and in fact, I know that agenda they push has been a failed philosophy many times over without a single success.
Why must everyone with whom we disagree be a loser, troll, liar etc.? I am not mad or even upset when you guys disagree with me (always) and I do not think I have called others names (and if I did, i apologize here and now), even when I have been insulted, demeaned, condescended, and labeled. Why is it only your “facts” are valid and mine from an invalid source ?
reading your little diatribe reminds me of an old quote that I find germane:
– Never argue with a fool. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
As usual, your response is rife with the same old arguments that you parrot from social media. I don’t have the time or interest in telling you line-by-line how you are wrong again…today.
Zoe, where did you get that $30,000 figure from? Anyway, according to Forbes, whom I believe have more accurate information than your sources, over the 8 years Biden was vp, the Bidens earned about $3.1 million. Half of that was Biden’s salary. His wife earned about $83,000 a year over those 8 years. They earned $260000 from pensions and another $240000 from social security. They also earned another $125000 in rental income. Once he left office they signed a lucrative book deal worth in excess of $8 million.
Also, why do you keep bringing this platform and agenda issue up. This election, as another poster has said, has nothing to do with platforms, it has to do with not reelecting the most despicable, ignorant, deplorable and insulting person to ever occupy the White House.
I did not care for McCain generally speaking, but I try not to speak ill of the dead. I would prefer that Trump not discuss him at all.
I believe Ivanka had a fashion line long before her father was elected. How do you know Jared “used” his fathers name to get a loan ? I oppose using one’s political position for personal gain and feel pretty certain that Democrats would have access to same information as you, so why did they not during impeachment fiasco ? If Trump’s children were taken around for business purpose on AF1, that should be investigated. We are pretty certain (because sleepy Joe bragged about it) that Biden helped his son, helped his brother (Iraq contracts) which IS improper.
That does not mean it is okay for Trump to abuse his office for personal gain. The same is true for Hillary/Bill (but you never seem to quibble with them) , or Joe Biden, Obama, McConnel, Reid, Feinstein, Pelosi etc. I am pretty sure we would find a substantial number of our Washington insiders have abused the system based on how many have become wealthy AFTER they got there. I am not so concerned about Trump’s tax returns as Nancy Pelosi’s. I feel the same about Mike Bloomberg, DeBlasio etc., who were already wealthy. and they are wealthy outside of government. .For example how did the Obama wealth grow from $4M to $20+Million in eight years on a $400K salary ? It is the ones who become wealthy while in government that we should all be concerned. Not just Republicans are corrupt.
I have observed the street violence since it started. I do not see “right-wingers” out there….all I see are a bunch of left leaning democrat thugs who belong in prison. BLM. What a joke. Those people do not care one whit for black deaths for if they did, they would be marching to protest black on black violence. They are great and fleecing companies for money, but where is all of that money going ? Scholarships, feeding the poor, housing assistance, veteran support ? Nope, not one dime has gone to those causes. That poor Oregon professor….how many have been beaten or killed by BLM / He is an example of who should NOT be paid by taxpayers.
