Louisiana State Trooper Christopher Hollingsworth, the only officer to be disciplined thus far in the death of a man during a traffic stop 16 months ago, has himself died of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident early Monday morning.
Hollingsworth of West Monroe, was alone in his vehicle around 2:30 a.m. Monday when he was involved in a single-car accident on I-20 near the Bastrop-Columbia exit. He was transported by helicopter to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. The cause of the crash is still under investigation pending autopsy and toxicology results.
Hollingsworth was one of six state troopers and a Union Parish sheriff’s deputy involved in the pursuit and eventual death of Ronald Greene on May 10, 2019. Hollingsworth was not placed on administrative leave on Aug. 25, more than 15 months after Greene’s death.
Greene’s death is under federal investigation and a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by his family in Louisiana’s Western District Federal Court.
Plaintiffs in the lawsuit are claiming conflicting accounts given by state police as to the cause of Greene’s death, incorrect claims that Greene was intoxicated (the autopsy found no alcohol or drugs in his system), and incorrect accounts of his striking a tree in the chase.
Poor guy likely fell asleep at the wheel at that time. As for Greene, we may never know the whole story.
Why was he taken 100 miles to the hospital when there are three excellent hospitals all within 10 miles of his accident? That raises suspicions with me.
