There are several individuals who could poster children for term limits (preferably a single term). Reps. Clay Higgins and Steve “Sleazy” Scalise of Louisiana come immediately to mind, as do grandstanders like Reps. Devin Nunes (California) and Jim Jordan (Ohio), Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas), Mitch “the Turtle” McConnell (Kentucky), Tom Cotton (Arkansas) and Susan Collins (Maine), and Attorney General William Barr, to name just a few. But topping the list should be Louisiana’s junior senator, John Neely Kennedy. The following interview with CNN’s Pam Brown is a classic example of a politician who has his talking points and is determined to recite them by rote, even if they make his fealty to Donald Trump painfully obvious:
Pam Brown Senator, President Trump told Bob Woodward the first week of February that he knew the coronavirus could be spread through the air and that it was more deadly than the flu. But two weeks later, he said at a rally that coronavirus was the Democrats’ new hoax. Is that acceptable to you? Is that misleading the public?
John Kennedy: You’re talking about the Woodward book?
Brown: Yes, the Woodward book.
Kennedy: Yes. All I can do is share with you my point of view, Pamela. These gotcha books don’t really interest me that much.
Brown: He’s on the record. He’s on the record.
Kennedy: These — these gotcha books don’t really interest me that much. There will be a new one out tomorrow.
Brown: But this is different. He did 18 interviews with Bob Woodward.
Kennedy: Right.
Brown: So, you — he’s — he’s recorded. You hear his voice. And you’re seeing that, and you’re contrasting that with what he says to the public. Wouldn’t that be something of interest to you, as a United States senator?
Kennedy: Well, let me — let me answer you again. Brown: Yes, the Woodward book.
Kennedy: Yes.

[If there is a more cowardly member of Congress, I’ve not seen him. Kennedy is an embarrassment to Louisiana on a level of Clay Higgins and Steve “Sleazy” Scalise. So, What would it take to offend Kornpone? If Trump would butter his butt and call him a biscuit? Nope, he’d probably crawl in the oven and turn on the gas for Trump – He’s just that much of a sycophantic lap dog. Here is the link to the entire interview. Be sure to watch and listen to the entire video – if you can stomach it.] https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/10/politics/john-kennedy-woodward-rage/index.html
Saw the CNN video interview when it first came out. Sorry, can’t stomach watching it again. Sickening.
Excellent report with which I (and everybody else should) agree 100%. Casper the Friendly Doctor is likely to ride back into office since the Democratic party has pretty much dropped the ball and the 2 leading candidates who oppose him seem determined to split whatever opposition votes we tender – not that we don’t need to tender them (who knows, maybe he can be beat). Nonetheless, every voter in this state, regardless of party, who has sense enough to grasp the meaning of this “interview” (i. e., that he is not even slick enough to credibly dodge a direct question – not that doing so would be a virtue, mind you) should refuse to pull the lever (push the button, mark the ballot, whatever) for Kornpone when he comes up for election.
Do you think John Bel Edwards or Mary Landrieu will run against Kennedy in 2022?
I wish John Bel would and Mary Landrieu would certainly be acceptable, particularly given her experience.
That would be game over for kennedy. JBE gets my vote all day every day.
Mr. Winham….I have asked a few “Democrat leaders” if there is such a thing as splitting the votes, why wouldn’t they work to figure out how NOT to split the weak Democrat vote against Cassidy….no answer. I saw it coming as soon as the second contender made his move. Maybe it is true that Democrats can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory….?
It’s not unprecedented for a candidate (or someone on his/her behalf) to get a third candidate to run in order the split the vote. I have no doubt that’s why Kanye West is running – to draw black votes away from Biden and it would be just like Trump or Karl Rove to do that (except Rove doesn’t like Trump).
The most shameful thing I’ve ever done was vote for trumps political concubines ; senators soundbyte kennedy and Covid bill cassidy. And I spent a good portion of my adult years drunkenly careening through foreign ports while on active duty, lol! So watching the kennedy idiot’s interview, followed by cassidy’s deceitful attempt to paint himself as a friend of us Veterans (while desperately trying to distance himself from the fact that he contracted the “democratic hoax” virus while campaigning) should feel like a strange episode of the twilight zone. But it’s just another day in trumps neighborhood.
All grandstanding aside, my anger with these two asshats is personal…. very personal. And I can’t wait until the chickens come home to roost for kennedy. I will probably actively campaign against him, even if my disabilities kill me. IMHO both of them are complete traitors.
Our entire Congressional (Rep) are sickening. Remember however, Kennedy has a connection with God and he can tell if anyone is lying so no need for truth or evidence re: the Kavanaugh hearings–“Do you believe in God??” I think I remember from Sunday School, something about bearing false witness……I doubt that Trump/rrepublicans’ let us worship’ during a pandemic ever heard of Rule VII. thanks ron thompson
