“The president has always said he’ll see what happens and make a determination in the aftermath.”
—White House precious secretary Kayleigh McEnany, on whether or not Trump will accept the results of the Nov. 3 election.
“There’s no more direct attack on democracy than saying you’re not going to respect the outcome of an election. It’s the People’s House. Saying there that you might not respect the result of the election does seem particularly galling.”
—Noah Bookbinder, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), on McEnany’s remarks.
“The Court finds that the President has not sufficiently pled that the subpoena is overbroad or was issued in bad faith on this basis.”
—Ruling by U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero, Thursday, on Trump attorneys’ attempt to shield his tax records from the Manhattan district attorney’s office.
“Donald Trump was the national leader of the grotesque, racist birther movement with respect to President Obama and has sought to fuel racism and tear our nation apart on every single day of his presidency. So, it’s unsurprising, but no less abhorrent, that as Trump makes a fool of himself straining to distract the American people from the horrific toll of his failed coronavirus response that his campaign and their allies would resort to wretched, demonstrably false lies in their pathetic desperation.”
–Joe Biden campaign statement on Trump’s reprise of the birther issue.
“I’ve been in this business more than three decades, and what’s happening now is unprecedented. We are attacked on a near daily basis using Stalinist language. We are called corrupt and dishonest. We are given false information from staff who often know full well that it is false. I have never encountered a public official, a candidate for office, a bureaucrat, a defense lawyer or, frankly, an actual criminal who is as regularly and aggressively dishonest as the current president of the United States. And that includes a dozen years covering the Florida legislature. It is no longer newsworthy that the person leading the world’s most powerful nation, commanding the most destructive arsenal in human history, is untrustworthy to his core,”
–HuffPost reporter S.V. Dáte, on Donald Trump and his lies. [Finally! At long last, perhaps the MSM is starting to find the backbone to challenge Trump on his distortions and outright lies.]
It has been somewhat disheartening to watch MSM this morning….they seem to be offering the Trump TV Reality side show as somehow effective while admitting most of it was fake and staged. They throw scary stuff about how this will undermine the rather dull DNC Convention, etc. I am guessing that if they stoke a scary situation, they can continue to report on it as such…I am glad that I watched off and on so that I actually know what went on in real time. I have also heard criticism of DNC for not stalking the RNC Convention as Trump did to them. They are all but telling the DNC to get down in the gutter with Trump. I guess this is just “marketing” but we should be able to depend on our free press for actual reporting and not leaning in to make a news story. We need to be very aware of what we watch and listen to because apparently this is how voters are swayed and even more so during this virus pandemic….however, I don’t think presidential candidates visit Louisiana very often during a campaign….? I think Trump is giving himself enough rope (provable lies) to hang himself with the majority of American voters and surely they will welcome a facual, sane, functional campaign by the DNC/Biden/Harris. We can only hope. Stay tuned for more fantasy Trumpland Expo to night….
Right on, Edith.
I think the MSM is either 1) cowed down by Trump, or 2) Trying to be fair. Either way, it’s working for Trump. I heard interviews with a couple on NPR this morning that I found astounding. They both love Trump and the reasons they gave are the reasons we should all be voting for Biden. Somehow, the Trump propaganda machine has gotten these people to now believe Trump is for the very things he has worked hard to destroy. The main main reason these people said they support him?: “We need our country to be united.” Can you, I mean, can you literally believe they could even say such a thing about the person most responsible for the fact we are becoming less united than ever in our history?
P. S. You have a lot more intestinal fortitude than me if you can stomach watching more than 30 seconds or so of the RNC.
So Hillary coming out yesterday and telling Joe Biden “not to concede” if the election results are close would not count in this hypocritical narrative? Do what you think you must to get out the vote for Sleepy Joe…but try and avoid the foolish statements that expose the Democrats as forcing a narrative that quell your argument.
For myself, as one that enjoys a political debate, it would seem that the media is having a hard time attempting to suppress the moderate and conservative talking points. I guess “owning” the press isn’t all it may be cracked up to be.
Great Ms. Edith and Mr. winham! I was able to watch parts of the Trumpland show, I feel better after drinking less, and I understand the “politics” of evil, hate, and greed, whiich will always be with us, and I will never become them, nor trust the egomaniacs and ignorant sons of bitches. ron thompson
