“[H]istory will record Mr. Trump’s presidency as a march of wanton, uninterrupted, tragic destruction.”
—The Washington Post editorial board, Aug. 22, 2020.
“You’ve been there less than a month. Wouldn’t you want to get the opinion of the unions and the mailing community on what might happen if you cut service like this? He never talked to us or sought our input.”
—Postal Service union leader Mark Dimondstein, on Louis DeJoy’s proposed slash and burn cuts to the USPS.
“We’re going to have everything,” the president said. “We’re going to have sheriffs, and we’re going to have law enforcement, and we’re going to hopefully have U.S. attorneys and we’re going to have everybody, and attorney generals. But it’s very hard.”
—Trump, on his controversial plan to deploy law enforcement officials to monitor polls in the Nov. 3 election, Aug. 21, 2020. [Hey, dumbass, sheriff’s deputies, state and municipal police are commanded at the local level; you don’t have that authority, even if it does sound like something that your palls Putin or Kim Jong Un, or Hitler’s SS would do.
“This is just such an old, dirty voter suppression tactic. There is no doubt that this is about instilling fear and depressing participation in communities of color.”
–Kristen Clarke, who heads the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Aug. 21, 2020
“The reason why the Republican Party was under a consent decree for 40 years was for precisely this kind of behavior in 1981. It would be unfortunate if, having come out from under that consent decree, they now try to repeat those tactics.”
—Marc Elias, lead attorney for the Democratic Party’s voting litigation efforts., Aug. 21, 2020.
“He has no principles. None. None. And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people. Not do this. His g**d****d tweet and lying, oh my God, The change of stories. The lack of preparation. The lying. Holy s**t. It’s the phoniness of it all. It’s the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel.”
—Then-federal judge Maryanne Trump Barry, watching her brother on Fox News discussing how he was handling child separations at the U.S. Southern border. [No one knows you better than family.]
Amazing how these quotes, shown in the light of day, can sicken one so quickly. We truly are in a fight for the survival of our democracy.
I just heard a series of interviews with oldsters on NPR where they attacked the sh&t out of Trump – and then said they were voting for him. We have got to vote, get young people and others who have good sense, and others who can see reality to vote – keep in mind he has a solid base that may increase after whatever he spews st the convention this week.
Amen! Not voting is a vote for tRump.
Psychologist and Psychiatrists will be busy for years trying to unravel the mentality of these “oldsters” that you reference. It defies normalcy….to know the depravity and dysfunction of a leader and still support him. Who would have foreseen that these folks would be an instrument of the destruction of our democracy? However, I am one of these “oldsters” and I WILL NOT be voting for Trump…
As am I and neither will I. When pressed, most of them seemed to hang on the same thing I have heard in person – the fear and hatred of socialism. Why this would have become such a blown out of proportion thing is a mystery to me. I guess I should start consuming right wing media. These people probably didn’t come up with it on their own.
I think it is less “mentality” and more of an information source issue. What is funneled through social media as “news” to trump supporters can be truly startling and gravely false, which means that social media is working exactly as designed. I usually reply to whatever conspiracy that my own family members tell me they saw on facebook with “you really have to get your news from a reputable source, not social media”. Looking at some of their newsfeeds can seriously reveal the problem. If that garbage is the primary source they use to inform themselves, then it’s no wonder that they believe the ridiculous QAnon crap.
Fear, ignorance, and prejudice are personal attributes which gets ingrained in our communication efforts. I am reacting truly concerned about the “oldsters” but the real culprits are our failure to accept or try to accept TRUTH and being so ignorant we can’t see a lie nor have any interest in seeking truth. whew…ron thompson

Thanks for linking this article. It’s very simple to understand but, like the author, I doubt many trumpers will read it all the way through. Still, I may forward it to friends who I know are good people, but brainwashed, and hope for the best.
Wow…a Washington Post report…no bias there! So all of you will turn out the vote to shill for socialism…complete fools.
You’ve got some nerve to call anyone else a fool. Since you’re so damned more informed than the rest of us; what toilet bowl are you passing off as credible journalism!?
Outlaw53, I wouldn’t mind hearing your answer to kamarcan’s question myself. Could you please enlighten us as to your sources of news? And before you go off on your idea of “socialism,” you should do a little reading on the subject. What do you think Trump’s farm supports were? How about the $600 unemployment stimulus? In fact, what about unemployment insurance period? And how did you like getting that $1200 stimulus check ($2400 if you’re married)? Do you pay into social security and Medicare? How would like to just forfeit those benefits if you’re so set against socialism? What about public streets and highways, police and fire protection? Sewer and water service? Social services one and all.
So, if you’re so opposed to socialism, when your home catches fire, don’t call the police, call the Proud Boys.
Yeah, we’re complete fools because we don’t fall in line and worship a tin horn dictator with six bankruptcies, countless other failed businesses, 3500 lawsuits for failure to pay his workers and employees, claims he signed bills into law that Obama actually signed, claims he built a great economy that he actually inherited (look it up: the DOW increased by a larger percentage under Obama than under Trump, more jobs created under Obama), fewer golf outings in 8 years by Obama than by Trump in 4; no indictments of Obama administration officials. Trump? Hell, I’ve lost count.
Wow. I feel like such a fool.
Me, too. Why bother with facts when you can simply believe whatever the hell you want to believe and insult people who have eyes to see and ears to hear what is actually happening. Ignorance truly is bliss, I guess, if angry bliss. As we have all said many times before, nobody needs to do anything but see and hear Trump and read his tweets to know what he is. If Faux, OAN, and others feed this delusional vileness, so be it. So called conservatives revel in it. I guess they really want a civil war. Maybe they think old Charlie Manson had the right idea. Helter Skelter. Imagine. And, imagine voting to re-elect the politicians who have abetted Trump’s every move. The people who voted to elect Trump are getting exactly what they voted for. The politicians in Congress who refuse to stand against him and for our country are more responsible for what he has done than he is.
As I read all of this venom against Trump and Republicans (conservatives) I see that both sides are closed minded to the other sides comments. I have been posting and asking for a defense of the democrat platform, and not a single one of you has said what they believe is other than they hate Trump.
Well, we know the democrat platform has been commandeered by Bernie (communist) and AOC (communist). We know Joe Biden did not make a SINGLE comment on his platform (which he would have zero clue anyway). We know that you liberals keep talking about Trump destroying our “democracy” when in fact, the opposite is true. Every time the Democrats allege a behavior, that is exactly what they are doing. Who is removing free speech (riots and protests over conservative speakers) ? Who is pushing removal of 2nd amendment ? Who is advocating murder of 9 month fetus (where are the baby’s rights) ? Who is pushing defunding of police ? Who is pushing for open borders ? Who is pushing for elimination of ICE ?
Democrats. for example decry voter ID, push for mail in voting as though it is too difficult to present an ID when voting (and mail in has zero security), yet demand ID for nearly everything else. If one can go to grocery store or shop, they certainly can go vote safely. Complaints of Trump and Post Office ring hollow; The Post Office lost what, $30 billion dollars under Obama, yet he did not one thing to “save” it, and even stated “Look at Fed Ex and UPS, they are doing okay” and over 14,000 mailboxes were removed by Obama. Of course, Democrats will ignore that
Stephen, you should re-read your second sentence above. It cuts BOTH ways.
And Kamarcan, read what you wrote. You condemn what someone else reads when you have no idea where their source of information is. Can one be more close minded ?
The bottom line; The Democrats are afraid to put their agenda out for all to see because the predominant number of Americans will NOT support it. Not one mention of what they want to do was openly discussed throughout convention. And the sheer audacity; Hillary discussing Trump not accepting election outcome (seriously !! She still has not accepted her defeat). Bill Clinton discussing behavior in the Oval Office !. If you guys cannot see the folly in that, I really do not know what to say that might convince you to open your eyes to reality.
As usual Zoe, you took several paragraphs to say nothing new. Your salacious claims about the Democratic Party have been debunked widely and repeatedly. It’s ridiculous that I have to defend another party that I’m not a part of. And I don’t need to read what I wrote… I was there when it was written. My question about Outlaw’s news source is still germane.
You can try to peddle yourself as some sort of conservative luminary, but all I see is the same old trump propaganda. But, I can definitely appreciate that you make your point without personal insults… which is something I can respect.
See Outlaw? That is how it’s done.
As usual ? Really Kamarcan what have you posted that is “new” ? Claims about the Democrat Party that have been debunked ? By whom, CNN or MSNBC ? You need not defend a thing. about the Democrat Party. I:.Salacious claims ? The statements I have made are accurate. You may disagree. That is your right. But it does not make you right. In fact, this will sum it all for you (humor)
And I am not trying to peddle any thing whatsoever. I do not need to. I have my opinions and observations as do you. We simply disagree. That does not make either of us superior. You have failed to highlight a single falsehood that I have written, yet you imply I am lying.
I do consider myself “conservative”, not a “Trumpster”. I will hold the same positions when Trump retires in 4 years, and will oppose the current Democrat Party platform for the rest of my life. And yes, I must question anyone who supports Planned Parenthood and the selling of baby parts. I question anyone who endorses killing a full term fetus. Or even a five month fetus. The Democrat Party pretends to care about people (BLM for example) yet endorses murder of millions of babies. The Democrats are against private ownership of guns unless guns are protecting them. Are you going to tell me that Republicans are looting, rioting and vandalizing ? Are you going to tell me Antifa is republican ? I think we all know where their politics lie.
As for the Washington Post. We know they are guilty of slander against the boy from Kentucky. We know they are owned by Mr. Amazon. I do not think Outlaw was defending them – are you ?
Zoe… you really have to get your news from somewhere besides Facebook. 🙂 Ditto that for Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, SnapChat, etc ad nauseam. You say it as humor, but whatever that page is (and 100,000 others just like it) has become the problem with disinformation in our era. I left social media a couple years ago because of what it has become, and where it is coming from. But, it was completely predictable that you’d inject something like that into the conversation… like usual. It’s going to take more than Facebook groups, blogs and fringe radical news sites to convince anyone here to take up your cause. So, yeah… we rely on the main stream media for our news because they are well-established agencies composed of educated journalists who adhere to principals in their occupational field, backed with sources to support their reporting. Now, I know you are likely to complain that they are unsuitable for you for some reason, which is your choice. But taking a swipe at CNN or MSNBC by submitting a Facebook group isn’t going to support your claim that all your statements are accurate.
In its simplest form we surely disagree, but I never said anything about anyone being superior. And although we disagree, my objection to the OP was in his personal insult which is inappropriate and unwelcome here. The politicians are fair game, but insulting the members of our community are not.
I’m a conservative too. I supported many of the GOP ideals until they took a hard turn into the toilet of trumpism; but I’m not naive enough to make silly predictions about the future of elections. We’ll see how your constant predictions work out for you soon. As for the rest of that; I doubt any of it matters in this election. The only thing at issue on the upcoming ballot is character. The relevant issues are completely lost in the ego-driven milieu of Trump. And all your saber-rattling projections of what the Democrats are is hot air, IMHO. You speak like they are some nebulous impersonal threat. WE make up both of the parties; our families, neighbors and friends. Long after politicians are done stirring us into a hateful boil to support their job ambitions, we’ll still be living and relying on each other regardless of our political affiliations.
As for that last paragraph… (big eyeroll)…
