“We have to win the election. We can’t play games. Go out and vote. Do those beautiful absentee ballots or just make sure your vote gets counted. Make sure, because the only way we are going to lose this election is if the election is rigged.”
—Donald Trump, in campaign appearance in Wisconsin on Monday.
“The Postal Service is going to be just fine. We’re going to make sure that the ability to function going into the election is not adversely affected and I don’t share the concerns that the president … has mentioned.”
—Sen. Mitch McConnell, to reporters in Kentucky on Monday. [Easy to see politicians who are in a contested race for reelection.]
“One day in February 2019, when congressional leaders were waiting for an answer from the White House on a pending deal to avoid a second government shutdown, the president demanded a DHS phone briefing to discuss the color of the wall. He was particularly interested in the merits of using spray paint and how the steel structure should be coated. Episodes like this occurred almost weekly. It is more than a little ironic that Trump is campaigning for a second term as a law-and-order president. His first term has been dangerously chaotic. Four more years of this are unthinkable.”
—Miles Taylor, former chief of staff for the Department of Homeland Security (2017-2019), in Washington Post op-ed, Aug. 17, 2020.
“Let me be as honest and clear as I possibly can: Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country. He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is.”
—Former First Lady Michelle Obama, speaking at the Democratic virtual convention.
“He has tried to prevent people from voting, undermined the U.S. Postal Service, deployed the military and federal agents against peaceful protestors, threatened to delay the election, and suggested that he will not leave office if he loses. This is not normal, and we must never treat it like it is.
—Sen. Bernie Sanders, on Donald Trump, Aug. 17, 2020.
“You have the most destructive, hateful, racist president in the history of the country who is tearing apart the fabric of the United States.”
—Former congressman Beto O’Rourke, Aug. 17, 2020.
“[H]is only preexisting condition was trusting Donald Trump, and for that he paid with his life.”
—Kristin Urquiza of Arizona, whose Trump-supporting father died of coronavirus, Aug. 17, 2020.
“Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Trump golfs.”
—Bernie Sanders, Aug. 17, 2020.
You know, if we weren’t so well versed in tRump quotes and the responses to them and just read today’s quotes as standalone material, one could easily think he/she was reading science fiction. Unfortunately, as we know, it’s factual.
And….there we have it…Trump tweets, lies and rants while the truth slaps us all up beside our heads….Trump has shown from day one that he isn’t up to the job of being our president…Trump is ALL about Trump (watch what he does if Lindsey Graham flounders)….it really is what it is….and it is very, very bad for America and we still have a chance to fix this! VOTE BLUE!
Great points made at the convention last night. We can only hope the 5% or so of the voting population still on the fence were watching and getting the truths presented. We know 40% will never acknowledge them, but if the 5% will wake up we can have a 60/40 win. Despite Trump’s somewhat successful efforts to make us believe our election system is deeply flawed, a 60/40 victory would be exceedingly hard for anybody to dispute. And, once the election is over, we need to work hard to modify the electoral college to require proportionate voting by the electors at the minimum. All but 2 states currently require electors to cast all votes for the person winning their states – there are more problems with this than simply having cases of a popular vote win turning into an electoral college defeat.
I don’t think there is any scenario where trump concedes the election, regardless of the numbers. And the longer I live, the more I accept how flawed the EC is. It’s another layer of human involvement that can be manipulated and all the arguments I’ve heard are seemingly remedied by the internet and technology.
I think the framers created it to prevent the election of a destructive person like our current president on the assumption voters were too ignorant to vote responsibly. As you imply, that is only now true if people choose to remain ignorant. Later its intent focused on not giving the most populous states total control over who got elected by using congressional delegation numbers to determine how many electors each state got. The fact all states have 2 senators helped with that. State laws that mandate the electors simply vote for whichever 1 person won their state pretty much eliminated the need for the electoral college to even meet and resulted in the kind of things we have seen in recent elections – disparities between the popular and electoral college elections.
P. S. Keep in mind the Electoral College, although it does give states that wouldn’t matter much at all a couple of votes they wouldn’t have if it was just based on the House, the top 11 states in population have enough electoral college votes to elect a President. How fair and leveling is that? The way I look at it, candidates could ignore significantly fewer states if we went to a popular vote.
So I guess the trumpsters will conclude that the report issued today by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence is “trumped” up report by the Dems. The committee finds a closer link of the Trump campaign with the Russians attempt to influence the 2016 election. Mind you, this is a bipartisan committee, chaired by a Republican.
Clifford55: Did I hear Committee Chairman Rubio (Republican) swear that this report in no way shows that Trump had the slightest thing to do with Russian help with his election? What a crock!
Great job,all of you. When Putin announced the vaccine, maybe early, was a clear signal that our Intell agencies are doing a great job. Please note the report from DARFA?? who had a program for vaccines quickly to use in battlefield when bio agents killed our troops. Seems that the Russians had the same data.
Still working on a memo about Sputnik and comsec. and Hitler, the cold war. thanks ron thompson
Did he, Edith? I think he kind of use snippets of the report yo support his statement.
Clifford55….well, when he was finished, he was in the shape of a pretzel….
