“Never suggested it although, based on all of the many things accomplished during the first 3 1/2 years, perhaps more than any other Presidency, sounds like a good idea to me!”
–Donald Trump, on reports that he suggested to the South Dakota governor the idea of adorning Mt. Rushmore with his likeness, along with those of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.
“I said, ‘Mr. President, you should come to South Dakota sometime. We have Mount Rushmore.’ And he goes, ‘Do you know it’s my dream to have my face on Mount Rushmore?’ I started laughing. He wasn’t laughing, so he was totally serious.”
–South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, describing an encounter with Trump in the Oval Office in 2018. [Oh, dear God.]
“The Lord and the Founding Fathers created executive orders because of partisan bickering and divided government. That’s what we have here.”
–White House economic adviser Peter Navarro, on NBC’s Meet the Press, Aug. 9, 2020.
“Why Is Barack Obama constantly issuing executive orders that are major power grabs of authority?”
–Donald Trump tweet, 2012.
“The country wasn’t based on executive orders. Right now, Obama goes around signing executive orders. He can’t even get along with the Democrats, and he goes around signing all these executive orders. It’s a basic disaster. You can’t do it.”
–Donald Trump, at a South Carolina campaign stop in February 2016. [In his first year in office, Trump signed 55 executive orders compared to 39 in Obama’s first year. Trump also had more in his second year (37 to 35) and his third year (38 to 34). Overall, Trump has issued 177 executive orders in three and one-half years compared to 276 for Obama’s full eight years.]
I wonder of Navarro’s crediting of The Lord with creation of executive order powers was his sincere belief or mere pandering to the religious right? You know the answer in your heart regardless of your religious beliefs.
If America doesn’t know the depth of this Trump/Republican Presidential Carnage by now….they surely won’t pay any attention to the ignorance, greed, meanness, corruption and ineptness that we are witnessing almost hourly from this White House, and Republicans in our Senate and House of Representatives. The evidence is in….the jury is in session….the verdicts will be given after November 3….we are the jury!
And this juror will crawl on hands and knees to the voting place if that’s what it requires to cast my vote and find tRump guilty on all counts.
Now that Joe Biden has chosen his V.P. candidate, we can all now envision the type of nation that will develop should the Democratic pair gets elected.
Of course, visions of Minneapolis, Portland, Chicago, etc. cannot be dismissed in light of the permissive attitude of the governance of those areas. Those visions will include the actual damage inflicted by the rioters involved, not the “peaceful” protests images offered up by many media outlets.
Of course, defunding police departments will be on the forefront of progressive Democratic policy…even if the recipients of that sort of policy will be taxpaying citizens. One can only wonder where the “progressive” bent will finally come to a crossroads…if it ever does. It would appear that every time some policy, idea, or history is “corrected”, yet another more inane foolishness is forwarded for “correction”.
Now the push is for mail in voting. With the crux of the issue being the ever vigilant “efficiency” of the U.S. Postal Service ( even now some stories are being vetted that show ballots mailed in for the 2016 election arrived…only eleven months late ), is it prudent for our country to abandon in person voting which is already suspect in many cases for voting irregularity?
To be sure, Donald Trump is a man with many faults. But even after the Democratic party paying for the very report that was forwarded ( and failed ) regarding so called “collusion” with the Russians, the Mueller Report which was a “no show” with regard to substance, and a litany of other media and Democratic driven “scandals” that were without substance, there are those that would indict him simply out of extreme dislike.
Still, the question on November 3rd is not weather “Orange Man Bad” or weather or not “Creepy Joe” can actually be coherent enough to do three nationally televised debates. The real question is weather or not the rule of law will still be utilized to maintain order in our nation…or shall we give in to the “mob” mentality that seeks to control civil discourse.
Don’t vote based on personal hate for either candidate. Cast your ballot with regard to the safety and security of our nation going forward. For myself, I would not like to offer my grandchildren a fate like Venezuela and Cuba, as socialist policies ruined those countries for generations to come.
Our nation is known for “opportunity for all”, more than any other country on earth. In spite of those that cry foul on our basic tenets, we are still a beacon for those that want to achieve based on the “bootstrap” ideal. With socialism, that ideal will fall to the trash heap.
Vote for the “Orange Man”. Your grandchildren will thank you for it.
I’m sorry, but I fail to see what the “weather” has to do with any of this.
Wow… that is some imagination you have there… and you came up with all that because Biden chose Kamala Harris? Of course, visions of defunding police, trying to pin racial protesting on “the other party”, and maligning absentee/mail-in voting are not new… regardless of the illusion. The truth behind each of those conspiracies is more complex than your argument seems to make, but those are longer discussions that are already tired and unlikely be resolved here. But, no matter how you argue it… none of that is part of Biden’s’ platform. I’m sure you can easily find material that says it is in any of the Toxic Chalices that make up our social media platforms, but you’d have a hard time finding any real evidence to validate those claims.
There are a couple things that I agree with you on: trump is a man of many faults, and we should not vote based on personal hate. Those two statements stand in stark contrast to one another because at least one of trumps “many” faults is his well-documented, habitual efforts to stir up hatred against anyone he opposes. “Orange man bad” has made so many inflammatory and hateful statements that much of the country now reflects many of the same behaviors. I mean, seriously… trying to paint democrats like the dictator that trump loves and admires in Venezuela. But, I guess if that’s your opinion…
Regardless of what some politicians (on either side) say, the other guys are not the anti-christ… or the enemy. All this doom and gloom rhetoric is pathetic and only serves some politicians that clearly will say anything to get, or keep political power. The rest of us Republicans, Democrats and Independents are family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. And I refuse to look at any of them only through a political lens. After this pandemic is all over, I would still gladly sit down to have a cup of coffee with any of you.
Like you I will cast my ballot with regard for the safety and security of our nation going forward. Like most of the nation, I’m tired of the tumultuous last four years and I will vote for the decent man with an 8 year history in the White House. He wasn’t my first choice… hell, he wasn’t my second either; but he is the only other choice our political system has left me; and any criticisms I had of him in the past pale in comparison to your “man with many faults”. Of course, this is just my opinion. YMMV.
Vote your own conscience this November.
Outlaw, I’m sorry for you, your family and the USA that you have been brainwashed to only believe the lies fed to you by conservative media. You only need one fact to confirm that impeached trump and the conservative media are lying: the US has less than 5% of the world’s population and over 20% of the world’s deaths. The model impeached trump used to quote projects 250,000 to 300,000 deaths by the time we vote in November. By the way, heart attacks and cancer deaths will still outnumber COVID-19 deaths because they aren’t being misclassified. And impeached trump was too stupid to accept scientific common sense and really control COVID-19 before reopening the economy. You wouldn’t vote for Hillary because of 4 Benghazi deaths and a ridiculous allegation that she and Bill killed 50 people. But you will vote for the man responsible for tens of thousands of unnecessary COVID-19 deaths. Go figure…
And let’s not forget Trump’s attempt to hold Obama responsible for 2 US deaths from the 2014 Ebola outbreak.
To paraphrase Tina Turner, “What’s the Lord have to do with it?”. If Navarro believes this line, then he should have his head examined. The “Lord” may have created a number of things, but the Constitution and Executive Orders is not on the list.
Outlaw is parroting the lines that folks are being fed, a bunch of hyperboles based on fear ( I heard similar lines in 2012). Ok, my fears: dismantling of ACA, doing away with DACA, and defunding Medicare and SS, real fears if Trump gets reelected and the Reps keep control of the Senate.
Oh, good grief.
