“Biden in late April predicted Trump may try to push back the election, a suggestion the president’s campaign dismissed at the time as ‘the incoherent, conspiracy theory ramblings of a lost candidate who is out of touch with reality.’”
—The Hill, July 30, 2020, on Trump’s suggestion that the Nov. 3 presidential election be delayed. [You gotta know the White House staff scurried into damage control mode after Trump’s tweet. It’ll be interesting to see how precious secretary Kayleigh McEnany will spin this one.]
“I think he is gonna try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held.”
—Joe Biden, to supporters in April. [Not a bad prediction for one who Trump says has lost it mentally.]
“[T}he fact that he is even suggesting it is a serious, chilling attack on the democratic process. All members of Congress— and the administration— should speak out.”
—Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.), July 30, 2020.
“One more try at throwing a shiny ball out there to divert attention fro: inept handling of the pandemic, ignoring intel on Russian bounties, devastating economic numbers, lack of action or plan on next COVID-19 relief package.”
—Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Washington), July 30, 2020
“This is yet another statement by the President which undermines voter confidence and that seeks without evidence to undermine the legitimacy of voting by mail.”
—Richard L. Hasen, law professor at the University of California at Irvine. [Of course Trump knows more about the law than any law professor and as evidence of that, look at how many times he’s been sued.]
“That tweet claims powers that he does not have, period,” he said. “He is not a dictator.”
—Historian Michael Beschkloss. [No, but he certainly loves ‘em.]
I am frankly appalled by the president’s recent tweet seeking to postpone the November election. Until recently, I had taken as political hyperbole the Democrats’ assertion that President Trump is a fascist. But this latest tweet is fascistic and is itself grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment again by the House of Representatives and his removal from office by the Senate.
—Steven G. Calabresi, co-founder of the Federalist Society and professor at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law, who says he has voted Republican in every presidential election since 1980, including in 2016. [Obviously a RINO]
“Even for Mr. Trump, suggesting a delay in the election is an extraordinary breach of presidential decorum that will increase the chances that he and his core supporters don’t accept the legitimacy of the election should he lose to former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.”
—New York Times, July 30, 2020.
“Only Congress can change the date of our elections, and under no circumstances will we consider doing so to accommodate the president’s inept and haphazard response to the coronavirus pandemic.”
–Representative Zoe Lofgren, Democrat of California and the chair of the Administration Committee, which oversees elections.
Even powerful Republicans dismiss this latest ploy as unacceptable. Interesting where they draw the line, but we should all be glad they drew it here. We need to all (no matter what party) consider how even the suggestion of Trump staying in office beyond January 20 without having been re-elected will further diminish our status in the world. Apparently, the 40% in his base don’t give a sh*t about that, but they certainly should. Some of you probably saw the NYT short documentary about how we are currently perceived elsewhere (including countries President Trump considers sh*tholes) based on the way we have mishandled the pandemic. That, and his bumbling, often counter-intuitive, international relations, daily rants, etc. are embarrassments enough, but using dictator tactics to remain in office should be unconscionable to anybody with a conscience.
40-percenters: Do you have consciences, or do you fall back on sheer Darwinism and believe those unable to compete in today’s world should simply perish? [Not only do they not need a handout, they don’t even deserve a hand up. They just need to evaporate so we can achieve that mythical utopia in our minds that led us to vote Trump into the highest office in our land and to continue to support him today.]
I just have one, to me, obvious question: If by some miracle, which Trump seems to believe in when convenient, Trump were to decisively win this election that he wants delayed….would he still claim that it was a FRAUD? I will answer my own question…NO, he would declare himself the God-chosen Winner of a perfect election, many are telling him so, other countries are applauding his re-election…..! So, there we have the motivation and the results of Trump’s rants and lying claims that mail in ballots equal a fraudulent election, he thinks he is a loser. When are we going to completely expose Trump as the mentally unstable, self-serving moron that he shows us almost hourly? What say you Republicans and Trump supporters? Surely, you can see what he is doing to YOU?
Ms. Edith, your theory has already been borne out – in 2016. In the run-up to the election, he said it was rigged and that there would be massive fraud to steal the election from him. But then he won the electoral vote and his tune changed immediately.
….until it was revealed that he’d lost the popular vote by more than 3 million. Then he formed that ridiculous task force.
And, he was so bold (arrogant) as to admit that if he won he would not claim fraud. He’s like the Burger King – has it his way, no matter what.
On January 23, 1933 the Twentieth Amendment to the United States Constitution was adopted. It moved the beginning and ending of the terms of the president and vice president from March 4 to January 20.
Thank you Jesus.
Trump’s ‘Delay the Election’ tweet checks all 8 rules for fascist propaganda – Timothy Snyder Washington Post July 30, 2020

As much as I may want to vote by mail, I am determined to vote in person so that my vote will most definitely be counted. I’m not sure I can count on our postal system to deliver the ballots to and from me on time. I have already ordered a haz-mat suit in case I need to wear it to the polls.
Me, too, Kitty. For some reason I enjoy voting in person and on election day. Maybe you can loan me your hazmat suit?
