P. S. Only one of the 17 items above does not deserve 4 Pinocchios:
“I’m the king of debt. I’m great with debt. Nobody knows debt better than me.”
… and even it deserves at least 1.
Well Stephen, perhaps former President Barack Obama knows a little more about debt accumulation than anyone. As for Trump, I will agree that modesty is not one of his virtues.
Zoe, not only am I not sure what you mean, I don’t thing YOU even know what you mean. Are you saying Obama is responsible for more of the national debt than Trump after having to bail Wall Street out of the mess he inherited from Bush? After all, Obama took over right after the crash and was forced to incur debt and Trump, who took over a robust economy, still increased the national debt by $1 trillion, and that was BEFORE the coronavirus outbreak.
Sometimes, Zoe, I think you just have to respond to see your name in print, even if you have no idea what you’re talking about.
Ben. It is a statement of fact that President Obama accumulated more debt than all previous Presidents combined. To say Trump took over a “robust” economy is not an accurate statement although it was finally on the upturn. Do you recall the first “stimulus” which resulted in “shovel ready” jobs? Wasted money on solar company that went bankrupt on our money ? Are you aware of number of people who were on food stamps when Trump took office ? Robust ?
You can go online and easily find video of Obama himself stating that Americans must get used to higher unemployment, that manufacturing jobs were a thing of the past etc., that Trump must have a “magic wand” to turn things around because there was just no way. He acknowledged that things were not so good. Then when Trump cur taxes, cut restrictions, adjusted our tariff policy, encouraged petroleum industry and the economy did turn around (New York Times even wrote an article l acknowledging that fact), Then, years later,Obama claimed that it was he that helped oilfield get going. To save you the effort (https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?fr=yhs-avast-securebrowser&hsimp=yhs-securebrowser&hspart=avast&p=obama+magic+wand+speech+youtube#id=3&vid=983813b3112e21b59725b03d414ac6c3&action=view). And bear in mind Ben, that Obama was defending his poor economy near the end of his time in office.
So Ben, no, it matters not that I see my name in print. It matters not whether you think I know what I am talking about ( but I am pretty sure you do not). I know exactly what I mean. It simply does not agree with the semi-accurate “facts” you offer in defense of your opinion. And, btw, are you calling Obama a liar as he acknowledges his poor performance ? Are you even aware of when Obama incurred this debt and how much went to “bailout” Wall Street versus the balance of his time in office ? Of course not.
Come on, Zoe, the DOW rose at a higher percentage under Obama than it has under Trump, so I’d say Trump assumed a robust economy when he took office. Yes, we know all about the solar company that went bankrupt. God knows, you’ve reminded us of it often enough. How many companies have defrauded the US treasury under Trump? Yes, Obama was a disappointment as a president but when compared to Trump, I would classify him as a statesman and a diplomat. Trump is an utter failure in business (let me count the ways in which his businesses have failed, let me count the bankruptcies), and a complete failure as president. Please name one specific thing he has accomplished (and don’t say “the economy” because I reiterate he took over an economy that was already doing quite well).
On second thought, never mind. You are beginning to bore me.
Zoe, You wrote: “It is a statement of fact that President Obama accumulated more debt than all previous Presidents combined.” According to impeached trump’s https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/historical-tables/, a credible source, using year end numbers for convenience, President Obama started with a Gross National Debt of $9,986,082 million at the end of 2008. At the end of his term at the end of 2016, the gross national debt was $19,539,450 million. According to my spreadsheet, that is an increase of $9,553,368 million, over $400 billion less than what had been accumulated by all prior presidents. Making your “fact” a lie, like almost all of the “facts” you quote.
And, like Edith says below, none of this has anything to do with with impeached trump’s pathetic performance in office, capped by the US, with less than 5% of the world’s population, having about 25% of the world’s COVID-19 deaths.
Zoe: youtube? really? youtube where film can be edited and picked and run to mean something entirely different than originally filmed? Where are your NPR, AP or BBC references? BUT, never mind Obama! Obama is NOT president. Please defend Trump’s Putin love that is weakening America at home and abroad and leaving our military unprotected against Russian bounty hunters? Please defend Trump on his very recent claim that this virus will “just go away?” Please defend Trump on his open and vocal defense and support of White Supremacy? Please defend Trump on his inability to face the truth so much so that his lies have reached the thousands? This has zero to do with Obama and everything to do with Trump. So….defend your Trump!
