“Commit adultery on his beautiful, classy wife.”
—Response of “Rosie” at Trump’s Tulsa rally Saturday when asked if there was anything Trump could do to lose her support.
“That was years ago before he ever became president. Nobody is accountable for what he done when he was a lot younger.”
—“Rosie,” stretching logic to its absolute limits when reminded of the Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal affairs. [Well, “Rosie,” we’re “riveted” by your ability to rationalize your unquestioning loyalty.]
“Because of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, 2020 will be the most RIGGED Election in our nations (sic) history — unless this stupidity is ended.”
“MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WILL BE PRINTED BY FOREIGN COUNTRIES, AND OTHERS. IT WILL BE THE SCANDAL OF OUR TIMES!”
—Donald Trump tweets on Monday in opposition to mail-in ballots. [Obviously, no one has told him that using all caps is like shouting and no one likes to be yelled at. And just what does “and others” even mean?]
Daily proof logic has no place in the Cult of Trump. Adapted from an old hymn: Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Trumpland, but to trust and obey.
Once upon a time there was a little chicken, and everybody called him– Chicken Little. And one day while he was out walking, up in the sky a bird flew over and it dropped an acorn, and the acorn fell down and– bip– bopped him on his head.
Chicken Little said “AWK! ” and looked up, and didn’t see anything, and he looked down and didn’t see anything. So he said “Help, help the sky is falling! Help, help the sky is falling! I have to tell the King!” And he went running down
the road, looking for the King.
But Chicken Little never got to see the king, just like tRump will never become king.
The name “Chicken Little” – and the fable’s central phrase, The sky is falling! – have been applied to people trying to incite an unreasonable fear in those around them. Chicken Little/tRump = one and the same.
Well, Tom, you have just quoted two of the most unreliable folks we can imagine. This is the sum total of Trump: He lies all of the time about everything. There is no way to excuse this or make him a reliable president. Nothing that he does could possible overcome his complete lack of core moral values that begin and end with his constant and dependable lying. Rosie, however, just isn’t on the “consider her statements” meter.
So true Ms. Herring…if tRump ever tells the truth it’s an accident. I listen to news/commentaries and the moment I hear one of them say “The President said today…” I know it will be a lie and I ask myself why they bother to quote him. And then someone will follow up to diplomatically tell us tRump was wrong. Well, duh, we already knew that. There is way too much tip toeing around him. Fauci, for example, should just say that what tRump is saying about the coronavirus is wrong, wrong, wrong and he should just stop talking about it because he is killing Americans with his lies.
“Rosie” reminds me of the many republicans and now, trump cultists, I have dealt with over the years. While I still am active in progressive organizations that work for social and economic justice, equity for all people, voting rights, etc., I generally don’t engage with individuals who spout their ignorant BS either in person or online. You cannot reason with these people and they fail to see that they – not THE OTHERS – are the instruments of their own misery and destruction.
You didn’t go to college and have a good career with nice benefits? Don’t blame others who did, no matter their ethnicity or gender. Or you are educated but bought the company line about pensions vs. 401s and made poor choices? Now you don’t have adequate access to health care and enough money to pay the rent AND buy food? That’s on you, not those who have done well.
I have been told that all I have is my “pathetic state pension” while this person had a million dollar 401(k). When the stock market crashed and the 401(k) with it, and this person couldn’t afford both food and house payments, and had to sell the retirement home AND the much smaller one purchased thereafter, I kept my mouth shut (for once) and thanked God for my regular, adequate state pension, our retirement savings nest egg and our paid-off mortgage.
I’ve been told “I have mine and everyone else can just do without and go hungry and homeless” because they don’t want their taxes paying for the undeserving.
I’ve been told by more than one republican that if you don’t have health insurance or money to pay for doctors and hospital care, you can just die. We know people who are in the “just die” category, while we have good health insurance that includes Office of Group Benefits coverage (for which we had to fight, literally, in court, during the jindal years). Why am I fighting for such people when I am comfortable?
These people call themselves Christian but seem to have never read the Bible, Matthew 25:35, the part about what you do for the least, you do for Jesus, and what you do not do for the least, you have not done for Him.
Someone once chewed me out viciously for supporting the ACA/Obamacare, because she didn’t want government involved in healthcare. During this conversation she was in tears over not having enough money either in savings or current income to pay for out of pocket expenses for a lifesaving operation for her little girl. (Getting a cash advance on a credit card to pay the several hundred dollars to save a life seemed like an alien concept and she wanted the church to come up with the funds, sort of socialist notion.) This mother said her children had great health coverage when they were covered by the free LA CHIP (the Louisiana Children’s Health Program, part of the federal State-CHIP that all states use to cover disadvantaged children.) But after getting a more desired private plan, that cost a lot of money every month for premiums, medications and out of pocket costs, they could no longer afford good care. Having performed state public information work for LA CHIP, I knew something about that program and I asked her who she thought paid for LA CHIP – the Tooth Fairy? But she hated President Obama and always votes republican because they are good and Democrats are godless baby killers. This conversation took place at church, where I taught her kids’ Sunday school class. Fool.
I am done with those people. It’s hard to refrain from telling them that if they can’t pay they can just die, or if they can’t afford their monthly obligations they can starve on the streets. But I try to be the bigger person, to be Christian, and continue to fight behind the scenes for those who need. But I no longer engage with the ignorant, the fools, who always vote for the red plague against their own interests. I don’t waste my time and energy on such people. While they are desperate for healthcare, hungry and unsure about keeping a roof over their heads, I’ve got mine…..
Amen.
