Donald J. Trump: Never surprising, always disgusting.
Donald Trump told thousands of supporters on Saturday that he had asked US officials to slow down testing for Covid-19 because case numbers in the country were rising so rapidly.
Ridiculous and disgusting. If you ignore something I guess it isn’t there – even if it kills thousands of your own people. Makes sense in Trumpland where remaining in office is the only goal and you figure your supporters are immune.
Well, he didn’t tell as many as he thought he was going to tell. (hee-hee)
Not that mc connell et al will care, but there’s something sinister, evil, malfeasant and possibly even a case for criminal liability, to deliberately withhold lifesaving medical testing for venal purposes. He’s not even smart enough to realize that dead people don’t vote.
“…slow down test…” is just a variation of what he has said at least twice before. Clearly in impeached trump’s fantasy world, if a test doesn’t prove the virus exists in a person, then it really isn’t there. It reminds me of a toddler playing “peep eye”.
Unfortunately, the virus isn’t in impeached trump’s fantasy world and will proceed to sicken and kill the people it has infected. And the virus will send envoys out in tiny droplets so it can find new victims. It would be pathetically funny if it were not so dangerous.
COVID-19 has removed any doubt as to impeached trump’s lack of intelligence. When he started pushing to re-open the economy before the virus had been reduced, experts and anyone with common sense knew that the virus would bounce back and cause more economic disruption if businesses opened too soon. But impeached trump can’t see more than a millisecond into the future so he continued pushing to re-open as soon as possible because his re-election hopes are substantially based on his exaggerated economic success. The expected virus surge has become evident. The only questions are:
– How bad will it get before cities and states finally react?
– How much avoidable damage will impeached trump do to the economy?
– How many avoidable deaths will there be?
– How much other damage will impeached trump do as he realizes his chances of re-election are fading and the only way he knows how to react is to create more chaos over there to distract us from the bad news here.
– Before the election, how many of his supporters, including elected officials, will finally realize that the trump party, formerly the GOP, is coming to an end?
In addition to the clear mishandling of this crisis – look at any statistics you like for proof – and the low turnout at his Tulsa rally, I have limited hope the following recent events, reported by the NYT, represent a trend:
• Senate Republicans over the weekend refused to support Trump’s firing of a federal prosecutor who had investigated two of the president’s personal lawyers. As a result, the prosecutor’s deputy, rather than the administration’s choice, replaced him.
A federal judge on Saturday rejected Trump’s request to block the release of a book critical of him.
The author of that book — John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser — said in an interview with ABC News on Sunday that Trump posed a “danger for the republic.” [note: I have zero respect for this guy, but his accounts are consistent with what we can already see]
Another former administration official — Jim Mattis, a retired Marine general who served as defense secretary — said Trump was trying to divide the country and “make a mockery of our Constitution.”
Trump’s top military adviser, Gen. Mark Milley, publicly apologized for participating in a photo op with him that followed the use of tear gas against peaceful protesters.
• The Supreme Court blocked Trump’s effort to end a signature Obama administration immigration policy.
Several Trump-friendly commentators — at The Wall Street Journal, Breitbart and elsewhere — have said his responses to the coronavirus and police violence are hurting his chances of re-election.
THERE IS CERTAINLY NO REASON TO BECOME COMPLACENT EVEN IF THESE EVENTS REPRESENT A DOWNWARD TREND. HE CAN DO A LOT OF HARM BETWEEN NOW AND JANUARY AND, IF ENOUGH OF OUR FELLOW CITIZENS RETAIN THE BELIEF HIS IS THE CORRECT WAY OF GOVERNING, IT IS CERTAINLY POSSIBLE HE CAN BE RE-ELECTED. WE MUST NEVER LOSE FOCUS.
Ms. Zoe, you said a few days ago “I do not see a million people trying to see him speak anywhere.” You were speaking of Biden, but lauding Trump. Were you watching Tulsa last night? Empty seats! Where did the million come from? But from one of Trump’s lies, of course. Overflow? Ha! Total flop? Yes indeed. Arresting a school teacher who had tickets? Wow! Bolton’s book will be sold. DACA kids get to stay. New York Federal investigations to continue into Trump misdeeds while his poll numbers keep plunging. Stay in your basement Mr. Biden. No need to say or do much. Trump should go “Hang your faded dreams on the hanging tree” as the Marty Robbins song says.
