“I learned in a press release from the Attorney General tonight that I was ‘stepping down’ as United States Attorney. I have not resigned, and have no intention of resigning my position, to which I was appointed by the Judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.”
— Geoffrey Berman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, upon hearing of Attorney General William Barr’s announcement that Donald Trump plans to nominate Jay Clayton, Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman, to the post. [Berman has been investigating Trump and his political campaign. Although the Chief Judge of the Southern District entered an order appointing Berman, his appointment is indefinite only until the Senate confirms someone nominated by the president. Keep an eye on this one. It’s certain to become a hot issue between now and Nov 3. We’ve already seen what he does to inspectors general who attempt to investigate his administration.]
“[A]ny protesters, anarchists, agitators, looters or lowlifes who are going to Oklahoma, please understand, you will not be treated like you have been in New York, Seattle or Minneapolis. It will be a much different scene!”
—Trump, threatening to come down hard on protesters at his rally today in Tulsa. [Apparently, only his supporters enjoy the right of free assembly and free expression. Oh, and don’t even try to claim that the looting and burning was the act of only one side or Antifa-inspired. Anarchy is perpetrated by those who stand to gain from it.]
“I just hope and pray that the president keeps his people calm, but I have no faith in this president. He has shown a propensity to incite violence.”
—Rev. Robert R.A. Turner, on his doubts that Trump will control—or even try to control—his supporters in Tulsa. [See above comments re: anarchists.]
One sure bet: He will not keep them calm – he takes no joy in calmness.
“He’s the chosen one to run America”: Inside the cult of Trump, his rallies are church and he is the gospel. Trump’s rallies—a bizarre mishmash of numerology, tweetology, and white supremacy—are the rituals by which he stamps his name on the American dream. As he prepares to resume them for the first time in months, his followers are ready to receive. From article in Vanity Fair June 18, 2020 by Jeff Sharlet.
Long, but well worth reading.

Agree with CJG and his quote form Mr. Sharlet. Reminds me of a t-shirt worn by Richard Macleish Sandefer (He recently passed) many years ago,” jesus is coming again…and boy is he pissed!” Great related article in the New Yorker. The Greenwich Rebellion, by Evan Osnos. May 11, 2020. think I will have a beer and watch Tulsa. ron thompson
It looks like Trump is as committed to not getting re-elected as anyone could be. He appears to be the best thing the opposition has going for them.
