“I had hoped that at least for this one time, some of the president’s advisers would get to him and try to convince him to be consoler-in-chief. President Trump was not built for times like this.”
–U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Missouri), on the Tangerine Toddler’s ill-advised tweet about rioting and looting in Minneapolis in the aftermath of the death of a handcuffed man at the hands of police.
“Many Republicans were silent about the president’s remarks. Several contacted by The Associated Press either did not respond to questions about whether Trump was appropriately meeting this moment of cascading national crises or would not speak about the matter on the record.”
–Associated Press story about the embarrassing, cricket-like silence of Republicans on this same issue. [Wonder if our own favorite pontificator John Kennedy was contacted for his sage observations? Or Lindsey Graham? Or Jim Jordan? Or Devin Nunes? Or Mitch McConnell? Hmm, nothing. what a shame. What cowards.]
So why the Republican silence?
Do they agree with what happened? Are they concerned about offending someone – like the loot and shoot president? Like their constituency – by saying how horrible it was to see a man killed for no reason? Or were they sick to their stomachs, like many of us, and unable to talk? As well they should be.
republican silence may be because they know that this situation opens the door for next level action:

Minnesota authorities have arrested scores of people and report none of those arrested are local- all from out of state.
Did I miss something….or has this fact not been widely reported on MSM. We know there is that dark element in America that demands their freedom to be armed to the teeth….it just stands to reason that they will want to use said arms. Also, the question is always there: “Who benefits from the actions?” Thanks for posting this. I had not seen or heard it but it makes perfect sense to a political group that lies, cheats, steal and breaks our laws to benefit their agenda.
Here is the response I received to an email to our esteemed Senators last week (and before the latest outrageous acts). Senator Cassidy’s robot did not respond. Every time I write our elected officials the fact the only they care about is keeping themselves in positions of power becomes more apparent. At least, unlike other messages I have sent them, at least Kenney’s robot responded to the correct issue – a rarity.
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Winham:
Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns about President Donald Trump. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
I realize there are strong opinions on both sides when considering the President’s policies. President Trump was elected in 2016 in a free and fair election and, moving forward, it is vital that he and Congress work together to address the difficult challenges we are facing as a nation.
While you and I may have differing views on the President’s policies I am confident we can find common ground, especially related to job creation and economic growth. Regardless, please never doubt my commitment to the people of Louisiana. I will continue to keep your thoughts in mind as I work to represent our great state and nation.
Again, thank you for contacting me about this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about other issues that are important to you and your family.
Sincerely,
John Kennedy
United States Senator
I have several similar auto-letters from those two clowns. After the past four years, both of them are politically dead to me. I’m waiting to see if anyone viable runs against Cassidy, and I will vote with extreme prejudice when Senator sound-bite faces re-election in 2022.
I don’t pay attention to statements like the quote above from Rep Cleaver anymore. Who really thinks that Trump will listen to anyone at this point. It’s all just saber-rattling for their constituents. Trumps “warts” have been on full display and I seriously doubt anything can be said to change the minds of most of us. I’m just preparing to endure the “summer of hate” that is looming in front of us, so I can spend the evening of November 3rd watching the news to see if we’ve learned our lesson yet.
I enjoyed reading your post
