“Releasing either of these individuals, or anyone similarly situated, would be an affront to those affected by their evil schemes, and a complete failure in the administration of justice. Stanford lived lavishly by preying on the vulnerabilities of Americans who trusted him with every cent of their savings, many experiencing financial ruin when the scam fell apart.”
–U.S. Sen. John Kennedy, voicing his opposition to any early release of fraudsters Allen Stanford or Bernie Madoff because of the coronavirus pandemic. [Gotta go with Kennedy on this one. Too many white collar criminals have gotten off too lightly for too long. Those two have earned their punishment and warrant no special consideration while those with lesser offenses remain incarcerated.]
I also agree with him on this, for sure, but it is a safe position for him to take since his lord and master apparently doesn’t object. They are all beyond redemption for me, though.
I believe people like Madoff should never see the light of day as free people. They have ruined lives of countless people who trusted them and were misled. I also believe Senator Kennedy’s “Lord and Master’ are the voters of Louisiana and Kennedy knows that very well, not who Stephen implies. I rather suspect none of them are interested in redemption to liberals anyway as that would require one to abandon all conservative philosophy..
Zoe,
I’m confused by your last sentence. The definition of redemption I found on the internet is: “the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil.” Usage example: “God’s plans for the redemption of his world.” What were you trying to say when you wrote “redemption to liberals”? Backing up a bit, it is also not clear who is the “them” in “none of them”.
Because I don’t understand your sentence, I don’t really know if this is responsive or not, but I will state my opinion that anyone who supports impeached trump has pretty much abandoned all conservative philosophy. The abandonment list starts with family values (serial adultery), fiscal conservatism (growth in the national debt) and goes on from there.
By the way, Kennedy revealed who is his “Lord and Master” when he violated his oath of office and his impeachment oath by going along with Moscow Mitch’s hoax trial.
When Kennedy speaks so intelligently, I am reminded that he is a well educated man. I realize he more often speaks like Foghorn Leghorn because his supporters won’t understand words longer than two syllables. He has to dumb it down for them and while it is an insult to them, they don’t recognize it as such. Like their fearless leader sullying the White House halls, they think it’s because both men are like they are when, truth be told, neither would give them a second’s thought except that their vote gets them the power they so crave.
Kittygmartin: Well said and my thoughts exactly. Kennedy has shown, more often than not, that he is a solid Trump/McConnell man. His votes bear this out.
Yep, exactly Edith.
Add me to the list… I (shockingly) agree with him on this one. Now if he could actually DO something besides run his mouth to the media… Of course, I suspect his statement has more to do with politics than justice.
