“So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous—whether it’s ultraviolet or just a very powerful light—and I think you said that hasn’t been checked because of the testing. And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that, too. I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”
–Donald Trump, Thursday, speaking to Bill Bryan, who leads the Department of Homeland Security’s science and technology division. [Yet more evidence, as though it was needed, that the man is certifiably bat guano crazy.]
“Take two shots of Windex, swallow a light bulb, and call me in the morning.”
–CNN’s Chris Cuomo’s reaction to Dr. Orange Cheeto’s suggestion.
“Allow me to say if this was anybody else, nobody would not think he was crazy. How in the name of all that is holy can anybody, much less 40% of the population, think this man should be the leader of anything? Trump’s supporters should get a bottle of bleach, or maybe Pine Sol, and inject it immediately.
–A reader’s incredulous reaction.
“My concern is that people will die. People will think this is a good idea. This is not willy-nilly, off-the-cuff, maybe-this-will-work advice. This is dangerous.”
— Craig Spencer, director of global health in emergency medicine at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.
“We’ve heard the president trying to practice medicine for several weeks now, but this is a new low that is outside the realms of common sense or plausibility.”
— Ryan Marino, a medical toxicologist and emergency physician at University Hospitals in Cleveland.
“Please don’t do this.
Respectfully, all toxicologists.”
–Tweet by ER pharmacist Bryan D. Hayes.
“Well, look I think we need to speak very clearly that there’s no circumstance in which you should take a disinfectant or inject a disinfectant for the treatment of anything, and certainly not for the treatment of coronavirus. There’s absolutely no circumstance in which that’s appropriate, and it can cause death and very adverse outcomes.”
–Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb.
“No, you cannot inject UV light into your body to cure COVID19 — neither biology nor physics work that way.”
–Science writer David Robert Grimes, who holds a Ph.D. in medical ultraviolet radiation.
“We must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route). With all products, our disinfectant and hygiene products should only be used as intended and in line with usage guidelines. Please read the label and safety information.”
–Email to The Washington Post from the Reckitt Benckiser Group, the maker of Lysol and Dettol.
“There is an emergency department in America in the week that will probably get a bleach ingestion because of this. We know that because people are scared and vulnerable, and they’re not going to think it’s that dangerous because they can get it in their house.”
–Dr. Dara Kass, associate professor of emergency medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. [She left off stupid.]
Usually I can think of a comment to make in seconds…but today I can only shake my head. The man must be suffering from heat stroke as a result of being under those tanning lamps and stage lights for so long. Confusion, agitation, slurred speech, irritability, delirium, seizures and coma can all result from heat stroke. Is there such a thing as walking coma?
If anyone wonders why so many of us consider him dangerous, this clearly answers the question.
CJG, actually, Trump suffers from an incurable mental and emotional disorder called Malignant Narcissism. His is in an advanced stage. This has been pointed out by numerous, nationally recognized psychiatrists and psychologists. They have given us the check list they use professionally to diagnose this condition and he gets a 100% check off, leaving no doubt as to his sick condition….yet, we continue to allow him to have the powers of the presidency to abuse. We haven’t even effectively held Republican Congressmen accountable for their aiding and abetting his “crime wave” sense of governing. We place our hope in defeating him in the election. Yet, we don’t hold McConnell accountable for blocking legislation that would protect our elections from foreign cyber war, while Putin laughs. I am disappointed and frustrated that the majority of Americans cannot find protections from this attack on our democracy in the Constitution….As we witness the insanity of Trump and his followers on full display in real time, I cannot understand why we seem helpless…?
And, surprise, surprise, surprise (as Gomer Pyle so often said), Trump is now denying he ever said what he is clearly recorded saying (according to CNN) while the right-wing media says he said it, but it was taken out of context (out of context! give me a break).
You’re kidding! I’ve been out in the yard, but just this morning he was saying he was being sarcastic about the disinfectant and light inside the body. Well, Prez which is it? Kidding? Sarcastic? Never said it? Out of context? Somebody else said it? Can’t remember what I said? I’m out of my mind? I pick the last one, which we know he is, but that doesn’t make it any easier to swallow. No pun intended.
MAFTA – Make America Free of Trump Again
“…it does a tremendous number on the lungs…” an unintended true statement by trump. Introducing disinfectant into the body by any means would certainly do a number on the lungs, in about a minute, the lungs would shut down along with a few other organ functions. Sadly, there may be a few people who actually ingest poison after hearing their cult leader’s unambiguous and unsarcastic remarks. Natural selection, along with karma, “has a surprising way of taking care of situations.” Beware, as they say, of unintended consequences: those poor, deluded dead will not be voting in November.
Trumpeters, tell me that you recognize that there is something wrong with this man. Ultraviolet radiation! Injecting or swallowing disinfectants! Shooting down Iranian ships and boats! So the Iranians have flying boats and ships.
Have you noticed the absence of our trump apologist commenters today? Friends, please let us know you are not at home injecting or otherwise ingesting a disinfectant cocktail. Or finding a way to overexpose yourselves to cancer-causing UV rays.
While I believe that getting outside in the beautiful sunshine raises the spirits and provides needed Vitamin D, getting a sunburn is counterproductive. And by raising spirits, I do mean our mental health, not conjuring ghosts.
Please know that you gave me a very, very hardy laugh.:)
