“We’ve gotta re-open and when we do, the coronavirus is going to spread faster…So, when we open up and we’re going to have to, and somebody’s got to make the call, we got to be smart about how we do it. When we end the shutdown, the virus is going to spread faster. That’s just a fact. And the American people understand that.”
—U.S. Sen. John Kennedy, on the need to end the shutdown in an effort to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
Well, that’s reassuring. He’s as nutty as Dumbo.

It sounds like he is quoting his lord and master. A more Kornpone statement would be, “When the dog drinks all the weed killer, it’s time to get off the porch and get some more.” It would have also made more sense.
And at the end of that statement, he added: “And we’ve gotta be ready for it.” Sure, just like we were ready for it the first time. Every time I read things like he and others have said, namely you know who, I ask myself how many lives they consider acceptable as a trade off for reopening the economy. I wish someone interviewing them would ask them that question. Bet you they don’t get a straight answer. Certainly not from Mr. Ding-Dong. He would say, “we’ve gotta do it. It’s important to my re-election chances. And that’s what’s important.”
Looking ahead….I am wondering how they will shift the blame for the resurgence of the virus and the greater numbers of cases and deaths to the Democrats? This blame shifting for anything negative seems to be the play book rule for these Trump Republicans. However, they are the ones of record saying that we must open the economy and just suck up all of the carnage that is sure to result. I think i am getting a new illness called “Trump/Republican virus” They just make me sick….really!
I can’t help but wonder if he would feel the same if it were him or his family infected.
Just another reason to change the channel whenever I see his face on tv. Same for Frankencassidy.
So what solutions do you guys have for this particular pandemic, because so far, all I have seen is criticism of the way Trump handled situation. If you cannot see that shutting everything down is killing the country (World economy) there is nothing I can say to you. We have NEVER shut this country down like this before. Not for the Spanish Flu. all the way up to more recent epidemics. Not one of you was critical of Mr Obama who pretty much did nothing to stymie infection growth and eventually, over 65 million Americans were infected. And I will bet today that we see a lot more of this in the future as the world population grows, so will new virus.
Nancy, I am pretty sure Senator Kennedy is concerned; he personally is of the age where death is more likely. He has family as well.
Fayette, he may be nutty, but fact is, he is a Rhodes Scholar, so he is no dummy, despite his colorful speaking style.. Unlike Bill Clinton, Kennedy did not flunk out.
And Edith, yes, the disease is 100% Trump’s fault. He paid the Chinese to grow virus in a lab funded by U S dollars and secretly had the air force spray all of the major population centers to infect as many democrats as possible just to guarantee his re-election as reported by Rachel Maddow on MSNBC.
Fred, I guess you will have to give up television or just watch Nickelodeon all of the time because you will see a lot of Trump for the next 4+ years.
If none of you see the need to attempt to get the economy going again, I have to wonder, where do you think the money will come from to continue paying those out of work ? Or, as Bill Maher says, this is the only way the democrats can beat Trump is by destroying the economy.
Zoe, what 65 million people are you talking about? In reference to Obama. Also, you spend a lot of time looking for disparaging items(notice I did not say facts) on Obama. As for Trump all he has to do is open his mouth or tweet. He gives people enough ammo to dislike him. Zoe, do you ever listen to him or read his tweets?
Zoe, what school did Bill Clinton flunk out of? I don’t recall ever reading that he flunked out I believe you got some bad info (which wouldn’t be the first time for you). Can you provide documentation?
And Zoe, you are correct. The economy was not shut down during the Spanish flu pandemic – and 50 million people world-wide (more than the combined military and civilian losses from World War I) died, including 200,000 in the U.S. And Zoe, those numbers were a lot higher percentage of the population then than now. Perhaps an economic shutdown would’ve been appropriate except, Zoe, there was this little thing called WWI going at the time. That’s a difficult fact to overlook, but you pulled it off.
The economic shutdown has hurt. No one denies that. It’s hurt me. Badly. But I don’t really see any alternative other than widespread death from a second wave. https://www.history.com/news/spanish-flu-second-wave-resurgence
I sincerely believe if Trump were out there arguing to keep the shutdown in place, you’d find a way to justify that position. If I ever have a chameleon for a pet, I’m naming it Zoe.
Zoe, didn’t you say you are a nurse? Just wondering.
Can’t argue with Zoe, it is too much of a challenge, like talking to a stump. I have a lot of plans which agree with the experts, doesn’t bother me one bit about the precious Christians (read char. can’t spend charlatons) , and I agree that i have Trumpistis and I have a cure called Preparation Trump H. Alum??and force down his throat each time Trump opens his mouth. ron thompson
Zoe can get a bit addled, but in this case, she’s talking about John Kennedy being a Rhodes Scholar, which he was.
For Ben;https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/random-sampling-test-shows-coronavirus-more-widespread-and-less-deadly-than-previously-thought-study?fbclid=IwAR2yaWrlvrRKjFN-8sG4qDsAM47R6psvUJZRRsA-W0509jW9UQTeJqWbgeQ. Virus is bad and cause for concern, but perhaps not as bad as we once thought.. I assume you realize that this too shall pass, and we need to exist, and that is where the economy kicks in. I am aware of WWI. My point being that the world has NEVER shut down like it has this time dating actually back to the “black death” in the middle ages up to present date.
As for Bill; he only managed i year of two year term at Rhodes. There was a police report regarding an alleged “Rape”, which may or may not be true. Bill claims he left over draft concerns, which may be true as well. Either way, he did not make it and Rhodes will not disclose their side.So where are my numerous “bad info” items you refer to ? I suppose any time I disagree with you I am wrong ?
Yes DJ, that is accurate.I am an “addled” nurse.
Tractor, the stump here. I note that you have zero plans to fight this pandemic, just like all of our democrat leadership. All they do is sit back and criticize. Normally, we would call each and every one of them “Captain Hindsight”, because that is all they do is second guess, same as most of our news people. I too wish Trump talked a bit less. At least Obama knew when to shut up because the teleprompter stopped him where as Trump does not, but should use one more often. But, like you and I, we both have the right of freedom of speech,You choose not to argue with me because there is no logic in your arguments, only emotion because your argument is based on dislike only.
Zoe, but I’ll see your Washington Examiner and raise you a dozen Washington Posts.
Sooooooo, DJ, what are you trying to say ? The fact is, as pointed out in article, that the virus is not as lethal as first anticipated. Are you in dispute and so you have better information ? Because death to infected figures seem to reflect that so article seems to be correct. Or, are you , as many democrats, using your personal set of facts ?
Listen to Democrat Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, give his opinion on the federal government’s response to the corona virus:
