Does Trump know such a big word as “incompetent?”
Finally!!!! The truth from the man at the top.
We need to listen to our governors and medical experts and forget what this ego maniac has to say.
And now Dear Leader has just announced in a tweet a few minutes ago that it will be he, and not the governors, who will decide when to open up the states. A decision, he says, will be announced “shortly.” Incompetence flows from the top.
He has proven he will dictate whatever he can get away with dictating – and limiting that is squarely in the hands of Congress, followed by the Supremes, if challenges are to be made. With the exception of Cedric Richmond, our congressional delegation is apparently willing to go along with whatever he wants, as is the U. S. Senate as a whole, not to mention at least 40% of the electorate. The Supremes can continue to sit safely on their hands and not be held accountable for anything.
Trump forgets that the states are sovereign state and that was what our founding fathers intended them to be. They believed in limited government but has evolved into a bloated monstrosity(federalism) that controls the very essence of our lives from birth to death.
Wildbill, I was listening to that just as I was about to reply to one of Zoe’s posts. After hearing that, I gave up and decided that no matter what people post Zoe will stick to her guns. To make it worse Pence comes behind him and uses the phrase “plenary power”.
We are being led by incompetents; Virtually every mayor of every major city in USA for starters. Legislatures across the country are taxing us at record levels but not doing their jobs like repairing infrastructure. Improving schools, supporting law enforcement etc. But note, the cost of government keeps going up. More bureaucracy, more waste and mismanagement. Notice these people are still being paid and not even being charged for leave hence, we will have to still pay for their future sick leave and vacation time. Many Governors in country refuse to do their jobs and rely on Federal Govt to step in and do job for them. Why suddenly is it the responsibility of the Federal Government to furnish ventilators at the local level ? Masks ? Truth be known, that is a local issue. We did not one thing to prepare for such an emergency (nor did Obama/Biden replenish stocks after swine flu)
As for a pandemic virus, we were supposed to be guarded by the W.H.O. which we now know is a sham group managed by the Chinese. Are we supposed to believe that the Wuhan virus DID NOT SPREAD TO ANY OTHER CHINESE CITY ?????? The Chinese failed to warn the world and should be shunned economically by the rest of the world as a return favor.
Ms. Zoe…
I cannot help but notice that on the one hand you express your admiration for Thomas Jefferson and on the other you defend and support Donald J. Trump. The two are incongruous.
Jefferson was an unrelenting critic of the monopolization of economic power by banks, corporations or others who put their allegiance to what he referred to as “the selfish spirit of commerce (that) knows no country, and feels no passion or principle but that of gain.” Just the opposite of what Trump believes.
Jefferson would have been horrified by Trump. He may have believed in limited government, but certainly not to the detriment of the health of the republic. Jefferson was well read and educated. An intellectual. Trump does not read. He tweets. His vocabulary is limited. He cannot grasp complicated situations. Jefferson believed in a “government of laws and not of men.” Trump believes he should be the law.
Jefferson said, “He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truth without the world’s believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions.” Trump gushes lies like a fire hydrant.
Jefferson wrote the first draft of the Declaration of Independence. His views were the basis for the building of an opposition political party. Trump has destroyed a political party and left only remnants of its former self. He turned it into his own. He is a president with no principles and operates the government on his “gut instincts.” He craves power. He places his own interests before those of the country. He disdains a free press. Jefferson believed in the importance of a free press to keep government in check. He wrote that if he had to choose between “a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.”
I could go on almost endlessly on the contrast between these two men, but it would all lead to the same conclusion: your political belief system is in conflict with itself.
I’m not much on scriptures, but I would offer the contemporary meaning of Matthew 7:6. I, on the other hand, fully agree with you.
CJ, I never meant to compare the two in any way shape or form. I also do not need any lessons on Jefferson, a conflicted man himself as I have read numerous books on the subject. I simply stated that he, in my opinion only, was the most brilliant of our Presidents, and we have had several as Monroe, Madison and Washington come to mind. I am pretty certain Jefferson would have judged many of our recent Presidents in a negative fashion. Going out on a short limb, it would be safe to assume Jefferson would have been at the forefront of a revolution at several junctures in our history, starting with Lincoln, maybe Wilson, FDR or LBJ as people opposed to Jeffersons’ philosophy. But of course, we will never know because none of us possess the intellect to debate with him were he here today.Let’s face it, the federal income tax would have started a revolution in earlier times. The federal reserve system would also have been an issue.
I see you state that Jefferson would have been horrified by Trump. Really ? By standards of 1800 or by standards of current environment ? Trump believes he is the law ? Where do you get this information ?Cannot grasp complicated situations ? I see he is a billionaire several times over…are you ? Trump has “destroyed” a party ? Really? He, like most Presidents becomes the de facto face of the party, much like all recent Presidents. He has personally contributed thousands to Democrat politicians over the years so it is safe to assume he is not opposed to two parties, simply to people who are hostile towards he or his family.
And Cj, I resent that you choose to judge my beliefs and rule them to be in conflict simply because we see issues from a different perspective. I would never presume to do the same to you, Stephen or any poster with whom I disagree at any time. Often what you state as facts are actually your opinion or perception and others do not see in same light. Now, if you were a moron like Rachel Maddow or Don Lemon, perhaps. I could make an assessment such as that.
Four words. Federal Emergency Management Agency. FEMA. The agency was established to respond to national emergencies, to coordinate relief efforts. Of course, it’s been a colossal failure, but that was the intent.
That is why, Zoe, the states are looking to the feds for assistance. It’s the job of the federal government to coordinate the response to a national emergency.
By your response, you would’ve thought it the responsibility of the individual states to respond to Pearl Harbor.
You are absolutely amazing in your ability to wrap your philosophy around whatever knee jerk position trump takes on any given issue. You even allow yourself to adjust when he reverses himself 20 minutes later. It’s a wonder your brain doesn’t suffer from whiplash.
Exactly, Jessup. Not only Pear Harbor, but Katrina, Rita, Harvey, Sandy and other major storms that have hit this country. Zoe, how does the federal government exists? What fuels the federal government? I guess when the federal government needs a new aircraft carrier the president just tells Treasury to print a few million dollars. As I posted in response to the Trumpster-in-law Kushner’s “our stockpile” remark, the governors should tell the federal government to return “our money” back to the individual states then the states could handle these crises without the help of the federal government.
Will the Peter Principle (the tendency for employees to rise through promotion to the level of their own incompetence) need to be renamed the Trump Principle? Actually that’s not fair because it’s named for the person who came up with it, not as an insult to those named Peter.
DJ, I am aware of the existence of FEMA. That agency does NOT absolve states of their responsibility to their citizens. The Governor of each state has executive authority over emergency management as you are well aware (is that not why we pay taxes ?).
My point is that the executives of many states (either party) are supposed to act on the citizens behalf and be prepared I.E. we know we have Hurricanes in Louisiana, and tornado’s Oklahoma. It would be irresponsible for our governors to ignore that reality, yet, in Louisiana, they have.(and I include Mayor’s) fell flat with Katrina and Governor tried to blame FEMA, which was not prepared for storm of such magnitude either, as though to absolve the state of blame.
I love how you drag Pearl Harbor into this as though an act of war is the same thing….isn’t war a federal responsibility by law DJ ???. My ability to wrap my philosophy around whatever knee jerk position ? I am not blinded by hatred of any politician. There are some I am not crazy about, but anyone who hates a person like you (and some others) hate Trump has a serious problem. As if you could run this country better than Trump. Or Obama. Or Bush. The free press hates Trump and hated G W Bush and that showed with every newscast. There is virtually no position that Hillary Biden or Obama for example have not made a 180 degree flip flop on. Do you have such a short memory that you cannot remember that ??. But if Trump does it, the flip is nefarious.
Finally – a true statement by the Prevaricator in Chief. His kids probably have cornered the market on selling ice skates in hell.
Ms. Zoe, I should point out that a day or two ago I cautioned you about the accuracy of AZ Quotes. I think that the posting today by Mr. Aswell was done so tongue-in-cheek. Trump did say “our country is being run by incompetent people” but it was years ago when he was running for president and he was talking about the Obama administration. Please note that Mr. Aswell got it from AZ Quotes. I think he accomplished what he was trying to do.
Further, however, I never mean to offend you. In fact I admire your tenaciousness in defending this president. You are doing something I am unable to do…trying to defend someone in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Hang in there.
