“What is the medical evidence?”
––Question by a CNN reporter to Dr. Anthony Fauci, about the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine in treating the coronavirus.
“Do you know how many times he’s answered that question? Maybe 15.”
—Dr. Donald Trump, interrupting before Dr. Fauci could answer.
“The question is for the doctor. … He’s your medical expert, correct?”
––CNN reporter.
“You don’t have to ask the question,”
—Dr. Donald. [Typical adversarial press conference held to provide “information” about the COVID-19 pandemic that is killing people worldwide. And we still haven’t heard the medical evidence of the drug’s effectiveness.]
“Fire him. He continues to contradict our president and hurting his re-election chances.”
—Sunday tweet in response to headline which said, “Fauci says we are struggling to get the coronavirus under control.” [ignore the message, just shoot the messenger]
“The mouths of their rancid features opened like caverns, and sounds like the wailings of damned souls issued there from.”
—Des Moines Leader Review of the singing Cherry Sisters in 1901, which prompted a libel lawsuit against the newspaper by the indignant sisters, from Dan Abrams’s book Theodore Roosevelt for the Defense. After watching the sisters perform in his courtroom during the ensuing trial, the judge ruled in favor of the paper. [Apropos of nothing—I just thought we could use a good laugh.]
The one good thing about these daily “TV Reality Virus Press Conference Trump Political Rallies” is that we get to see in real time, the real Trump in all of his dysfunction, greed, lack of confidence, meanness, lack of empathy for anyone else, lying self. This is Trump in real time and he is being viewed by all Americans that want to watch…not just his adoring rally crowds. I am anticipating that soon Trump will interject canned applause and cheering in the appropriate moments to feed his bigly ego….we watch!
Trump needs to keep his big mouth shut and let the experts do the talking. Trump doesn’t know squat about what is going on.
You’re absolutely right. But it’s not in his DNA to keep his mouth shut. It’s an impossibility. He craves attention. And he doesn’t care whether or not he knows what’s going on. He wants adoration. But Ms. Herring pointed out something positive about his non brief briefings. They are live for everyone to see (but I don’t watch them). And I finally thought about something else positive about him. He doesn’t drink. Can you imagine what this idiot would say or do if he was drunk.
I can only imagine.
“What do I know? I’m not a doctor,” Trump acknowledged as he continued to push unproven medical treatments from the White House briefing room yesterday.
A rare incident where he actually made a factual statement about himself.
Thanks for the Cherry Sisters reference. I looked them up and found the Wikipedia description delightful. Here’s what the Times said about them:
The Times, in their assessment of the sisters, considered the act “more pitiable than amusing” and noted “…the effects of poverty, ignorance, and isolation are much the same all over the world, and the Cherry sisters exhibited every one of them with a pathetic frankness that left no question as to their status or their character.”
Stephen, I can assure you that if you were in my care right now in ICU with corona virus19, you would be more than happy to try the “unproven” medical treatments and would likely beg for it. We do not know why, but it has been used in China, Taiwan, S Korea, Spain, Italy etc. and has reacted to the virus in a positive way. We do not know why.The President has stated it “might” help. Dr. Fauci has said it has not been “tested”, which is NOT to say do not try it.
If Trump does not know “squat” about what is going on, where does that leave you ‘Bill ? I believe the term is less than squat. And Edith, dysfunction, greed, lack of confidence ? He clearly in functional as he moved to ban travel 2 days after 1st case of virus was reported in USA. He was still fighting the impeachment sham at the time. Greed ? Really ? I still note he is working for you for free. Lack of confidence ? That is a joke, right ? Meanness, I can see that. However, I do not see the “canned applause and cheering”. Many in this country support him as you have seen at his rallies (which draw more than all the Dems combined). And CJ, your first 4 sentences were pretty accurate; should have stopped there.
I would love, in a perverse way, to see any of you in Trump’s shoes for a week. I would enjoy watching reaction to critics like you You, like him, are not polished politicians who talk and say nothing. Yes, he talks too much; that was called transparency only a few years ago.
It will be more fun reading your harsh and judgmental posts for the next 4 years because it is apparent you will find issue with any and every thing this man does. And yes, I get it ! You do not like Trump.
“Yes, he talks too much,;that was called transparency only a few years ago.” Zoe, Trump talking too much has nothing to do with transparency . When I hear some of the stuff which comes out of his mouth, it reminds me of an old saying: You can keep your mouth shut and let people think you are a fool or you can open your mouth and let people know you are a fool.
