That one voice must be Tom Aswell. The hate spreader.
Said the man who likely spewed hatred for Obama for 8 years.
Jim, I think you miss the whole point of the quote. Truman was talking about any President. That most people will acclaim him simply because he is President, but that he should seek out advice from those who tell him the truth and the facts. Of course, Truman could not foresee today’s President who only wants to hear accolades about himself and could care less about truth and facts that do not support the esteemed image he has of himself and substantiated by his own words over and over again, day in and day out.
CJ, your comment started out so well; your first three sentences anyway. Then you slipped. Just could not resist that little slap though, could you ? And grammar police here: The expression is “Couldn’t care less”, not “could”, which implies the precise opposite of what your point is
And Angelo, while I was no fan of Obama, who was a seemingly genial person but a total incompetent, do you just assume Jim “spewed” HATRED ?
I pretty much disagree with many of the posters on this site, but enjoy the discourse and the difference of opinion and I like the exchange of thoughts. I am pretty certain some actually do not like my views at all. What I do not comprehend is the pitiful comments of hatred spewed towards all who disagree with the liberal point of view,
GREAT quote!
Wrong answer Angelo I voted for Obama .
Then you should readily recognize the hatred shown for Obama by Trump and his core supporters. I believe Aswell was trying to show the need for candor in the Oval Office. I don’t see hatred in that message at all.
Angelo what the hell are you talking about. Look at all that shit he puts out every day. With what is going on now we don’t need this crap.
Jim, my friend, no one is forcing you to read this “hateful crap” everyday. You might be forced to stay inside your home in the near future, but you won’t be made to read an online blog about politics and I would argue common sense and the apparent lack thereof in this State we call home. Chill out.
Jim, I try to encourage critical thoughts and constructive comments and rarely try to defend myself from detractors. But there’s something you should know about me. My grandfather taught me that everyone I meet is my friend until they demonstrate that they don’t want to be. I have earnestly tried to live by that credo.
But in this president, I see a destructive force that divides this country much more than anything I could ever post. By posting these quotes, I have attempted to show the inconsistencies, the lies, and the pure meanness of this president.
I also attempt to show where any other public official has committed wrongdoing. That is what Thomas Jefferson envisioned a free press to be all about. It’s what Theodore Roosevelt championed. A critical press has given us untainted meat from the packing houses that had no hesitancy in selling contaminated and diseased meat to the consuming public. Critical reporters exposed the corruption of Tammany Hall, Richard Nixon, the Vietnam War (remember the Pentagon Papers?).
I have written about a legislator’s insider trading, which we now see being repeated in our Congress with our elected representatives taking advantage of inside information for personal gain in the wake of a national crisis. I wrote extensively about mismanagement of our State Police, a department I now feel is in capable hands with Col. Reeves at the helm. I’ve published a book that demonstrates in indisputable terms the abuses committed by Louisiana sheriffs. None of these stories have been refuted. I wrote about them because the situations existed and I wrote facts. I did not fabricate a single word of anything I’ve written.
I get it that you don’t agree with me and as I said, I encourage critiques as well as endorsements. That’s why I don’t censor comments. But I do ask three things of those who comment: Please refrain from racist or libelous comments and please attempt to get your point across without the four-letter words.
I don’t think that’s asking too much.
Tom
Not just the President, but world and church leaders; CEO, sports coaches (particularly football coaches); humility is in short supply the higher one rises in the hierarchy. Problem is most of these leaders surround themselves with folks that acquiesce, that are afraid to give their opinions for fear of retaliation. Trump does not have a monopoly in this regard.
OH, excellent post. Most of these people surround themselves with “yes” men, which generally leads to their undoing.
Jim, I think you’re so blinded by negativity and purposeful ignorance that you fail to see that this quote really applies to anyone in a position of power. We must always be thinking and challenging ourselves on how to be better (or “be best“) because that is how progress is made. It is really the way all scientists and researchers should think when carrying on their work. If you’re not questioning yourself and your own beliefs, you have no one else to blame when you find out at some point that you were wrong or misled. It is a lot easier to walk back a mistake when one hasn’t been an obnoxious “know-it-all,” even if you’re one out of an inferiority complex caused by your dad not praising you like he did your older pilot alcoholic brother.
Tom, great job pulling up these apropos quotes from the past. They certainly do get some harsh responses, which is good because it means people are reading — always a good thing — and maybe critically thinking. Perhaps you could find more from “conservatives” or Republicans from the past that stimulate thought and discussion, without the negativity placed upon anything said by a Democrat. Nixon signed off on the EPA, and other progressive programs meant to help the country – not just the top 1%. He wasn’t perfect, but he was smart, a reader and a thinker. It is amazing that Nixon resigned and yet we’re still chugging along now like everything is jolly good.
A few posts back, I asked Zoe to answer the simple questions below. I got no response. I would welcome responses to these questions from Jim or anybody else, as well. I only ask, as I did of her, that you answer them directly without pointing to failures you perceive in other persons, things, or organizations:
1. How, exactly, do you justify the President’s constant downplaying the importance of the coronavirus’ spread, going so far as to call it a hoax right up to this week – when he suddenly declared he had known all along that it was a pandemic?
2. When asked today (3/20) what he could say to people who are afraid, was President Trump justified in not only refusing to answer, but personally attacking the reporter asking the question?
3. What is the benefit to American citizens of the President’s constant attempts to destroy confidence in the mainstream (i. e., most available sources of news) media by declaring them enemies of the people?
4. Do you personally believe the mainstream media are enemies of the people? If so, what is their motivation?
4. Do you believe the President always tells the truth and has never misrepresented anything to the American people?
5. Do you believe it is unpatriotic for media outlets to report and document the president’s unvarnished words and report on his unambiguous actions if they reflect poorly on him?
5. Do you believe it is okay to attempt to give citizens hope, even if the basis for the hope is not only questionable, but directly contradicted by his own experts?
6. Do you believe it is unpatriotic to not support a president even if you believe him to be harmful to your country?
Mr. Winham, I am happy you re-posted your questions. I too noticed there were zero responses…and I doubt you will get any…
And I can still hear the crickets chirping…
