“We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”
—Donald Trump, January 22, speaking of the coronavirus epidemic.
“We have it very well under control. We have very little problem in this country at this moment—five. And those people are all recuperating successfully.”
—Trump, on January 30.
“Well, we pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”
—Trump, in a February 2 interview with Sean Hannity.
“We have [coronavirus] very much under control in this country. We had 12 [people with the disease], at one point. And now they’ve gotten very much better. Many of them are fully recovered.”
—Trump, on February 23.
“We’re going down, not up. We’re going very substantially down, not up. It’s going to disappear. One day—it’s like a miracle—it will disappear.”
—Trump, on February 28.
“We have an invisible enemy. This is a bad one. This is a very bad one.”
—Trump, on March 16.
“I’d rate it a 10. I think we’ve done a great job.”
Trump, on March 16, in response to a reporter’s asking how he would rate the response to the coronavirus crisis. [Trump, of course, disbanded the White House office specifically dedicated to preparing for a pandemic shortly after taking office.]
He seemed to have been less delusional yesterday (except about himself). Let’s see what he says today. So far, Governors DeWine, Cuomo, and our own Gov. Edwards have been much more presidential than our President.
Mr. Winham, I have to say a mannequin in a store front is more presidential than our President. You are so right in saying he appeared less delusional yesterday. Isn’t that sad?
Totally unhinged..finally he has encountered something bigger than he, something he cannot fire or yell at, Listened to his conference this afternoon..how many times did he say, “tremendous”, “fantastic”, “very.” whatever…How did he manage to make it through English grammar? Does not inspire a bit of confidence…just study the incredulous looks of those around him during the press conferences, they seem to be supplicating, “”Get me out of here”! All I can say is,” Fauci for President!”
Our Department of Health was bragging/tweeting about 0 cases in Louisiana on March 9, 2020 at 8:32 am, after having tested 11 persons for novel Corona Virus. Less than 24 hours later we had our first presumptive positive case.
Our Department of Health is being run by a Juris Doctor aka an accountant/lawyer. Insane.
There’s no accounting for it….. I imagine Dr. Gee is glad she jumped ship when she did. I’m certain our incoming non-medical doctor Secretary is thankful she missed this crisis in both Louisiana and at her old gig in Texas.
Jade,
I think the LA Dept of Health was taking a restrained approach, trying to reassure Louisianians..compare this to Trump–pure braggadocio. Folks at the LA Dept of Health, the governor, and medical experts knew it was a matter of time..this is the nature of (at the time) epidemics, now pandemics. They were acting on the very limited data available at the time. They knew CVID19 was coming.
Statement by President Trump, 3/17/2020:
“This is a pandemic,” Mr. Trump told reporters. “I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.”
So, like President Wilson, during the Great Influenza, President Trump decided it was best to ignore it, or what?
It doesn’t really matter. As I’ve said before, it doesn’t really matter. President Trump’s supporters have proven, over and over, that they accept his most recent utterance as the Gospel, even if it contradicts his penultimate one. Some would say the New Testament contradicts the Old Testament. So what, right? All that matters is what we happen to believe today. The past is gone and the future is unknown.
Pass the Kool-Aid.
